Addo Carr signs with Storm...

As someone who was pretty disappointed when Addo Carr left, I'm now feeling a little more confident that the club knew what it was doing after Suli's debut.

Why couldn't we have both, Suli will likely move in to the centres.

Same here, Masterton! I was filthy when JAC was let go and we were left with Rankin, but Suli has come out of nowhere and, if last night is any indication, he is gonna be real good.

Agree 851 having both would've been awesome 😛ray:

Flip I don't think these guys like Suli come from nowhere as all the talent scouts know these guys, and how good they are going to be otherwise all these other clubs would not have been chasing him.

I think he means he came out of nowhere to all us plebs. I don't remember reading his name anywhere last year. The first time he was really discussed at length was when they announced his re-signing. I remember distinct conversations about the forwards we have coming through, but no backs. The club obviously knew what they had, as did probably people with close links to the club, but to everyone else they kept him well hidden.

Well hidden that's an understatement, they must have locked the change rooms at Concord and told don't come out.

Yep that's it guys. I'd seen Rankin, Hunt, Heleta, Jacobs and Papenhuyzen's names bandied around as possible starters a lot, but not Suli. It's been a pleasant surprise from the club.

I think the difference is that JAC in the grand scheme of things was extremely cheap. I can't see why he wouldn't have been considered pretty good value. Maybe just a case of wrong time given the clubs desperate need to get through the whole Farah thing. The drain on funds is almost crippling.

Interesting comment in the SMH about JAC's debut.

_"Addo-Carr was scoring regularly in the New South Wales Cup although it wasn't widely known he had agreed to cross to the Storm for 2017."_
So, was he a done deal but hadn't told the club?

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/storm-winger-suliasi-vunivalu-admits-he-didnt-notice-fellow-rookie-josh-addocarr-in-first-game-20170927-gypubo.html

Why oh why waaaaaaa did we let him go …..OH...Addo-Carr had already decided...

From an article I read it said JAC contract with the Storm was only $140K this year just shows how screwed up our Salary Cap must have been hopefully that all behind us .

why did the tigers let him go?

He was a stand out in NYC for the sharks and was stoked when he signed with the tigers. But I always seem to get let down by this club

He signed with the Storm while Pascoe was on holidays, he was asked not to do anything until Pascoe returned from holidays.

The one lesson we should learn from the Moses/Farah/Woods/Tedesco drama.

If they want to go. Let them!

No regrets on passing up Josh Addo Carr. He wanted to sign with storm and he did. At least we can have one player to cheer in the final, Oh wait TMM! He actually wanted to come here and we had locked down Josh Reynolds instead. Ill back that as he suits the Cowboys big pack better.

I am surprised so many people still don't know the JAC story, it's been covered many many times?

Tigers signed JAC and Rankin both the same year 2015, overseen by Jason Taylor in his first year. JAC we poached from Sharks NYC, so clearly we rated him, to scout him over. He was a Tigers supporter as a kid.

Rankin came to 2016 season with 17 FG appearances and 50 ESL games under his belt. JAC had zero games.

Taylor started with Rankin; makes sense he was the experienced footballer, goal kicker and had genuine utility value.

Koroibete announced he was switching codes on 19/May/16, but it was known in the media he had been weighing up Rugby offers for some months. Storm made an approach to JAC and I understand he'd already been negotiating with them by the time he debuted for us in Round 7 on 17/Apr/16, due to the fact he had not been selected as starting winger in Round 1.

As per bathurst, Tigers knew JAC had been talking to the Storm and requested he not sign until Pascoe returned from travel to provide the Tigers' counter-offer. But JAC signed with Storm and it was announced 06/Jun/16 - 6 weeks after he debuted for us.

Tigers did make a counter-offer to JAC and some reports state that JAC was considering backflipping on his Melbourne deal, however because the cooling-off period had expired, Melbourne had set a fairly high compensation figure if they were going to let JAC stay at Tigers.

Now I am not sure what people want? JAC was a kid with some raw talent, mainly speed. He trained with the FG side in the 2016 off-season and debuted in Round 7\. He went on to play 8 further games between Rounds 11 and 26\. He was 20 years old at the time. Tigers made him a competitive offer, Pascoe was quoted at the time:

I'd like to make it clear to our members and fans that Wests Tigers made a very competitive offer to retain Joshua for the next few years and while we're disappointed we wish him well," Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said.

By all accounts he wanted to stay and Tigers wanted him to stay, but JAC jumped the gun and signed already.

Probably a difficult personal move to Melbourne but clearly it's a good career step, Storm know what they are doing down there. Would JAC have been as effective with us as in Melbourne? No probably not, they have one of the best all-time attacking spines and JAC feasts off that with a fantastically disciplined forwards platform and one of the all-time great coaches.

So good for JAC, glad he's making a fist of it because he seems a good bloke and genuine finishing talent. But what are Tigers supposed to have done, we can't keep everyone under lock and key and stop other clubs going after our players.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know that mostly because i haven't been following the footy all that closely in 2016/2017 but personally i would of made it a top priority to secure JAC; Moses; TMM etc

Didn't the storm just re-sign JAC? Doesn't seem like they had an issues if they did re-sign him this year. Perhaps we can learn a thing or two from the storm and how to run a club professionally. One day…

Perhaps we might learn to operate with a non-salary cap compliant bank account as the Storm got caught doing and perhaps still are…....
Once a cheat, always a cheat isn't that how the saying goes?
JAC did a runner on WT despite being asked to wait a week or 2\. Probably doesn't say a lot about his loyalty or honesty TBH.
Won't be cheering for him on Sunday, he is just another jerk in a purple jersey. Go the Cows and TMM!

Don't forget also that we weren't the only ones to let JAC go.
Sharks let him go before us, and Souths didn't even want him when he trialled for them before that.

He is fast. And that is it.
Defence is poor and has always got a basic mistake or 2 per game in him.
As someone said in another thread- he may win the GF by scoring a try through his pace, but he is probably more likely to lose the game for his scabby team with one of his costly errors….....send those bombs up into the clouds for him Morgo!

It was a poor decision by the club and the coach. The CEO being on holidays is the best throw away line I have heard in a while. But you cant change the past so lets move on.

JAC, Moses, TMM, Woods, Tedesco, Suli, Brooks…

So many were up for resigning. Yes we should have kept Josh, but if they sign elsewhere let them go.

TMM I am sorry about as he actually wanted to play here. Although I have no idea what we would do with him and I think Tui is a better fit and Reynolds is who we need in 5/8 (i.e. someone who can defend).

Addo-Carr was interviewed earlier in the week and said it was a no-brainer to sign with the Storm last year when the opportunity arose so I'd say we had buckleys chance of keeping him.
