Alex Seyfarth #232

Seyfarth did an admirable job those opening 10 games. Galvin blew up that whole right edge & he suffered as a result.

You are welcome to believe whatever is going on with your eyes and synapses, though I don't recall anyone else on the forum forming that opinion, and that is before statistics come into it. I would argue that the similarly unsuited Sione brought better performances.

Alex has a role to play, but that is not as a first choice edge and definitely not pushing Samuela off the left side.

At best a bench warmer and probably spend a lot of the Season in KOE unless we cop an injury toll.

Just don't get the love, his dumb brain explosions have cost us games, we have some depth now he will have to fight hard to get in the team.

I hope that Alex plays a bit of KOE, though mainly because that will mean someone more worthy will have forced their way ahead of him on the bench.
Would also much prefer him if he could find the right balance of controlled aggression, which is something we lack and he can really rile up oppositions.

That's the problem Tim he's had seasons to real it in but we're still waiting, the new recruits will be chomping at the bit to impress this summer and break into the team.

He will have his work cut out for himself.

The best Seyfarth’s position is either to join Nofoaluma or to watch a grass grow on Antarctica!

He will play a role off the bench he is the least of our problems

He literally cost us a game against the Warriors this season with one of his dumb penalties, and he’s good for at least one of those every game. He is absolutely one of our more pressing problems, hopefully less so with KPP starting.

Any team with Seyfarth in the 17 (outside of injuries) are not serious about competing.

If he loses us another game through a dumb penalty/sinbin I will pay for a one-way ticket to Antarctica/Siberia.
I know people like to bash Seyfarth for his discipline but he improved markedly over the 2025 season. His average minute per penalty was over 133 and he’s been sin binned 3 times in 91 games (average of 1 per 30 games aka 1.25 seasons) only once last year.
In 2024 he was getting a penalty every 87 minutes and got sin binned twice.

Terrell May had 11 penalties and 14 Ruck infringements which is also the equal most in the competition.Obviously he did play like 400 more minutes but still it’s pretty poor.

I understand criticism of Seyfarth but it should be more directed towards the fact his defence went substantially downhill last season.

Brother that did not “cost” us the game at all. As soon as we went down 26-24 we played horrendously for the last 10 minutes and I also recall Seyfarth saving a try (will need to be checked) at one point during that game and also a try assist when he got a line break so I’m not sure how conceding 2/26 points and contributing to 4/24 points exactly counts as “costing us the game”

How about some of the average defence leading to the Warriors tries by numerous members of the team (Pole, Hunt, Bula, Luai) but not Seyfarth? Or with 40 seconds to go, nobody being at dummyhalf to give us the chance of winning the game?

Additionally, during the finals series contact like that was called “incidental” as he’s essentially fallen into the shoulder.

The good thing about Seyfarth is that he at his 'sweet spot' regarding his age and experience.

And he always puts in, there's a fair chance he'll be an improved player next year.

And it seems to be, he is a good person to have around the team.

Can Seyfarth be replaced with a better player at the same price. That's the only question that needs to be answered.

People keep saying he shouldn't make our 17. Have you looked at the bench of other teams?

Not a Seyfarth fan but that penalty against the warriors was a shocker by the refs. He stood there and the NZ player ran into his chest from memory.

So it took him 91 games to not be a total moron on the field with his discipline? Congrats, you must be so proud that it took your boy only 5 seasons and three coaches for him to show the slightest of improvements.

You really want to bring up Terrell May as a comparison? The same Terrell May who also gets through a mountain of work in attack and defense in addition to playing more minutes so fatigue likely plays a role there. What’s Seyfarths excuse considering he does nothing in attack which every standard metric proves. His per game stats for M, PCM, TB, and line breaks are a joke. He broke 100m once in 21 games while playing around 70 minutes a game. Go ahead and spin your way out of that one.

His only redeeming qualities are his tackle efficiency and tackle count even though he nearly always loses the contact in defense and gets driven back or folded like a deck chair.

Mate, the score in the Warriors game was 24 all with 10 to go, and he gave away a soft penalty which gave them the lead. You can try and spin that however you want but it wasn’t Hunt, Bula, Pole or Luai that did that. It was your boy,

Incredibly enough, it wasn’t even his biggest brain fade of the season. How about the Bulldogs game where he gave away a penalty and then got himself binned when we were on top? But I suppose that wasn't his fault either though.

Stop defending mediocrity and putting your personal favourites over what’s best for the team. Only at the Wests Tigers could we have fans wanting Alex [This word has been automatically removed]ing Seyfarth in the 17. Unbelievable.

He'll be lucky to make the bench with all the new recruits hungry to make 17 and that's a good thing, depth is good.
