Alex Twal #206

Pretty sure I read or heard somewhere that he's been working pretty hard on an off load/passing game.

If he's gotten fully over the injury he was carrying towards the end of last season, I can see him being a player that goes to the next level this year.

Nothing strange about this thread at all. Twal was a let down last year and didn’t show much to give us confidence in him being a ball playing lock. That’s the point of a forum to be debate these things, isn’t it??

Strange thread. He was the first choice 13 last year, so why would this year be any different

Read the first post

I did. The first paragraph says with no other contenders he seems to be locked in. Why wouldn’t he be, when he was first choice last year.

We need Twal’s defense before his attack at this stage. After last years poor defensive efforts all of our players need to be better in defense.

I’m hoping for a win on Sunday but if not, then I want a low scoring loss. If they defend well against a very strong Raiders side I’ll be happy.

There are 2 sides to Rugbeh Leegue..for Wests Tigers defence is priority numero uno for me ..Twal is very effective in this area of the game..noticeable when he was missing last year...

A let down? Haha

Up until he was injured, he was our MVP

Doesn't matter where you put the big fella - he'll do a job for you. One of my current favs.

A big fan of Twai, and would have had Simkin go on when Papali on the bench, a tough tackier and hole runner,as well as spelling Liddle.

I agree, Twal is restricted in lateral movement and robotic-like. His operating system needs upgrading.
I like Garner at lock, he is far more agile and a good ball runner off the ruck.

OK, sure, Twal doesn’t have a pass, doesn’t break the line, doesn’t even bend it, doesn’t offload.. has gone 4 seasons and 66 games without scoring, but he’s our kangal. As a defender there are only a few equals. Every team needs one.

Twal was killing it before his injury. Don't think this is a problem at all, although a rotation option with a more dynamic player for periods of the game would be good.

Sometimes I wonder not what game other people or fans watch, but more so what they watch in a game. We all view things differently I guess but it’s becoming apparently we all look for different things for a player to stand out.

I would like to see tuki at lock. Twal at prop.
Bit biased, guess that's why I'm not the coach.

We don't have hours of videos to review to check on players performances, we don't know who has improved with the new training staff, and we also don't have videos of the opposition that is needed to make a game plan. We can only guess with limited knowledge, but its good entertainment! lol.

For me if Twal is playing lock, it enables him to give more focus to his defending and some less concern to his meterage. It sounds silly, but most forwards can only concentrate properly on one thing at a time, so either they are all about getting the ball and crossing the advantage line, or they dilute their involvement a notch and put extra effort into the defensive phase.

What I would like to see is Twal go for more hitman in his defensive game, because I think he has it in him. Someone like Dale Finucane excels at not only being involved all around the park, but particularly working with defensive intent to pin down opposition attackers. It really puts a bullet into a set of six of you can really try to predict the play and nail one of the opposition forwards mid-count.

I'm also led to believe that Twal has a fair passing game, though Buddha only knows if Maguire will let him use it. Knowing Madge, probably not!
