For the second time in three weeks, Wests Tigers forward Alex Twal has topped the VB Hard Earned index rankings.

The underrated Twal's 73-minute performance in Saturday's 24-16 victory over the Cowboys helped keep his team's finals hopes alive and earned him the highest index score of round 22 with 96.

The 25-year-old also recorded the top score of 99 in round 20 to kickstart his late charge towards the peak position on the overall VB Hard Earned leaderboard occupied by tireless Eel Isaiah Papal'i.

Twal churned out 43 tackles with no misses, 14 carries (making eight or more metres nine times), two tackle-breaks, nine decoys and four supports in a durable effort after starting at lock on Saturday.

But Papali'i still holds a comfortable lead with only three rounds left in the regular season. Panthers prop James Fisher-Harris, who hasn't played since round 19, remains second with Twal closing in.

It wasn’t that long ago that some were calling for him to be sacked on here?

Blasphemous.

There was definitely some negative comments towards Twal within the past few rounds.

Disappointing.
The guy is a work horse and does a huge job for our pack.

I liked seeing how fired up he was during the panthers game.

At a club that's been haunted by inconsistency for their entire existence I love the fact we have a player in Alex Twal who you can just set and forget - always does his job, never lets the team down. Every team needs an Alex Twal 🔥

Any talk to drop him or boot him is way off the mark imo, good to see that talk has faded away.

Alex is the prime example of the not to flash but all substance that is a vital part of a team … to many supporters these days prefer the flash for $$ .. well done Alex !

He's doing well he just need to play most of his mins at prop. He can fill in at lock but he just isn't capable of moving the ball. Throughout his career 99% of the time he touches the ball he tucks it under his arm and hits the ball up. You know what you're getting with him, but people should expect him to magically start ballplaying.
He does have an offload that he hasn't used in years. If we're lucky he might bring that back, but he doesn't dominate the ruck enough to be able to use it enough.

He's a very solid and reliable prop, being able to play big mins is handy, but we shouldn't plan or expect him to play big mins too often.

I dont know if he is more a prop, fill in lock or just an outstanding young NRL player who is an absolute asset to the WTs....look up the word worker in the dictionary and you will find a picture of Alex....

Despite all the love in the guy doesn't dent the line enough and he doesn't have a good passing game or something extra.

I like him but he is your worker forward. You need them. We get smashed with him and Tamou combining together. We've looked so much better since having Stef and even Mikaele belting it up.

He is a really good worker middle forward and we can use him but he needs to be surrounded by middle forwards than dent the line.

I thought this thread was about the first two passes of his career that we saw last game.

I don't think he will ever be a ball playing lock.

He passes and offloads more than enough for a defence based cyborg who makes 100m+. Form dipped a month or so ago, but once he was benched he responded. A great asset to the club and for mine even if we could buy any 10 or 12 we want in any position he is one of a handful of our current squad who would survive.

He did an offload on Saturday, and almost had a second one. Never thought I'd see the day. He also passed the ball for the first time ever, unfortunately it missed the mark. He'll get there. Milestone achieved - ball passed. Next achievement to unlock is "successful pass".

Our Finucane. Talk really needs to ramp up soon regarding a contract extension. Letting him get to November 1st without a contract offer would be a massive failure.

I don't recall seeing people asking for him to be dropped. Everything I've seen is fans asking for him not to be played at lock due to his inability to pass or offload.

Was definitely a stint there where people were saying he's a plodder and not including him in their team lists.

We were smashed when we had him and Tamou as our starting props. He won't give you that tough hit up that Stef will give you.

He gives you solid performances day in and day out. We have some good middle forwards now and more coming through. We just need to get the balance of the pack right.

Wow I didn’t see that on here, geez very hard judges.
My only gripe with Twal is he runs hard but gets pushed back at times and would love him to just add a late step as he hits the line. He is actually very fast for a prop and of course his work rate & tackle effectiveness is top notch.
