Alex Twal #206

Thing is he was declared a SOO player in preseason and a big influence to get us into finals. He was indifferent start of the season and didn't lock down the 13 role as they predicted he would be good in, disappeared middle season and coming back okay now.

Another Madge master stroke.
Playing our best prop (at the time) at lock.

Yes, it's a different position.

Twal is the 2 scoops of Vanilla ice cream we need. maybe even 3 scoops.

plays big mins, tackles well.

If he scored a try, threatened an offload, or got a quick play the ball, he could lose a scoop. Above bog average, just makes average - kebab skills may improve that

I don't recall seeing people asking for him to be dropped. Everything I've seen is fans asking for him not to be played at lock due to his inability to pass or offload.

Was definitely a stint there where people were saying he's a plodder and not including him in their team lists.

100%

Lots of haters.
Gone quiet now.

I'll put my hand up here.
He was not in form for a good spell of the season that's for sure. So I questioned him and was a critic (not a hater).

I just thought he rarely bent the line and needed to add some ball-playing. Last few weeks he has done this - can't fault his turnaround.
Having said that, I reckon he has it in him to even go to another level.

Twal is a very good player a pro. Does a lot of work and plays long minutes. He does his job well we need more impact players around him to provide impact. Stefano is a good start add another powerhouse and he will be invaluable.

I think he lacks agro. He's a consistent performer and is reliable in his play. I don't think he's a dominant tackler and he's not that strong a runner but he doesn't have many errors in his game and with dynamic players like Mikaele, Stefano and Luciano around him, he plays a really important role. Like a prior poster said, when he's paired with Tamou we look too soft and other teams start to dominate. Seems to have a no-nonsense attitude about him and I hope he we sign him to a long term contract.

I have no confidence in him being able to dent the line or ball play. It's not that I don't rate him. It's just he is a worker. He is a really good worker though.

You need players like him. You just can't have him and Tamou and Joe O as your middle forwards because they get smashed.

He’s the guy we have that the Roosters and Storm would sneak into their side. But he’d be the one who buys coffees for all the better players.

Ultimately, unless he's on the field with a couple of enforcers (eg Stefano) he's not much use

As I've said before he and Tamou are a very poor combo. You can only have so many workers on the field at any one time.

Let’s face it, you keep Twal and get rid of Tamou. He is pathetic.

With his massive gob, he should audition to play the joker, lame movie by the way. Very disturbing.

Yep.
He's never going to be a front-rower like Junior Paulo, Bromwich or Haas. IMO he's more like a Tolman, but I reckon he could be better, like a Jacob Lillyman.

It was supposed to have been disturbing...

Twal was carrying an injury earlier in the year, right? Carried over from 2020 if I recall. I think that's all cleared now and he's getting back to his best form.

Yes, a sternum injury?

Not sure why people think he doesn't dent the line? Sure he's not knocking people over but he's always carrying defenders and finding his front. In fact he's #1 in post contact metres for our forwards and #19 overall in the NRL for it. (Big Ken is #5 in the NRL for PCM!)

Watch the Penrith game again.
He showed some agro.

But yeah, he has a few more levels in his game we have yet to see unlocked.

Guys definitely a no nonsense star and we are lucky to have him.

A player, along with AD... the Bulldogs wish they had. We have the premier Lebanese club at the moment Wether u guys like it or not! 🇱🇧🇱🇧🇱🇧

I think it's a myth that's been invented simply because he hasn't got a try yet...

He makes hard runs and bends the line, it just goes unnoticed because he doesn't get to beat his chest and point at the logo like Nofo does.

See I think its more to do with his hitup off kick offs.
In the middle he does push forward and it would be interesting as to how he rates speed of play the ball wise as well because imagine would be close to the fastest as well. Liddle loves running after his play the balls.

From kickoffs he does get pushed back often (not all the time) which sticks into people’s memories as he normally hits the line fast but very direct and upright. I love how he runs it as everytime I get excited by the impact but also then go uggg at times when it happens

Wish we had a fullback who ran off the hips of our middles, Twal has an offload he just hardly ever has support with him
