ARE WE ON THE NOSE

Are we on the nose in the market place????It seem we are linked to lots of players but very seldom actually sign anyone especially players with some profile.

Iam wondering if the shopping around of contracted players, going back to Gibbs and Fafita has players and their management worried about doing business with us or maybe even the Benji saga.

Okay we have never been the no1 location for a lot of off contract players but of late it seems we are really struggling to entice players to our club.I know Mayer has stated that 2014 is about consolidation and 2015 will be our year to hit the market place, but we still seem to get linked to lots of players and never come up trumps. I realize that half the players we are linked to is just BS, but their still seems to be plenty giving us a wide berth.

When any quality comes onto the market, their is always demand and plenty of money being thrown around but we just dont seem to even get in the picture. Is it a image thing,is it location,is it money their must be a reason.

I just hope Mayer and Potter can reverse the trend,as the best junior talent in the NRL will amount to nothing if we dont get some quality from outside.

I hope Potter and Mayer can turn the trend around, because even with great juniors we are going nowhere fast without some quality outsiders joining our ranks.

I have known several quality forwards who have been approached by WT over the years who have not been willing to play with Marshall or under Sheens. They felt it detrimental to their careers.

These perceptions take time to shift even after we move people along

No decent player with half a brain will come anywhere near our basket case of a club.

We are set for a good five years at least in the wilderness.

I dont believe we have the cash to make a big play currently, at least not until Brooks and Moses are tied down long term. Tapau would have required some cash considering Melbourne were pretty keen on him, so the fact he passed up the Storm to come to the Tigers may indicate that your post may be perception more-so than fact.

I never thought we would get Rose as he has always thought of the tigers as soft. I am bitterly dissappointed we missed out on Kennedy though.

We need to build the new culture with guys like Brown, Sue, Murdoch etc…....if you build it they will come.....(sorry, couldn't resist)

Thats what people said after the Hoppa and drug incidents. Doesn't take long to change the perception of the club if its run the right way.

Who have we ever brought in worth noting? we managed to keep Benji and Robbie, who we already had. We've never pulled a big name unless you count Blair, and it's not likely to change any time soon.

They hardly classify as high profile signings. Most league fans couldn't have told you who Ellis was and Tuqiri was a code hoping old man trying to finish his career somewhere by the time we got him.

Ellis had a decent reputation and was a fantastic signing for us but a big name Marquee he was not.

Did i call him a Nuffy? I did nothing but praise him. But what i said is true, most League fans didn't have a clue who he was when he came across.

This conversation is about marquee signings like Falau of thurston or Smith & the like, which Ellis wasn't and isn't one of.

And as good a footballer as he was, he shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Hanley or Schofield.

99% of "fans" don't follow ESL. Doesn't mean their playing roster is subpar. Ellis is/was a big name.

OMFG….. I NEVER SAID THEIR ROSTER WAS SUB-PAR...... YOU CANT BE A BIG NAME IF NOBODY KNOWS IT

**That's..........what.......Big.........Name.........means**

For the final time, i was not insulting Gareth Ellis, AGAIN he's a great footballer.

None of this being the point of the conversation anyway. The point was that anyone that thinks we're going to land a player like Falau without paying extreme overs is kidding themselves. We are and will continue to be the team where careers come to die for the foreseeable future.

Big name Australians. Best clarify yourself. Plenty of big names out there that are not Australian.

Mayer has said we wont go shopping anymore for 2014\. I doubt we'd be able to sign anyone big name either given the fact we don't have any clue who our halves are going to be. All these things contribute to the decision

Like it or not we're the world's premier competition. Until they have succeded here the name's not worth the paper it's written on.

But i'll let the long series of has been's and never will be's that go over there & look like super star's speak to that.

I'm not saying they dont have good player's, but exactly how good they are cant be quantified till they play at the top level.

Such as who? Which forwards have actually conveyed that was their reason? If so, how are you aware of this?

@Majere77

Sure the NRL is more elite than the ESL. Doesn't mean ESL full of crap players. Far from it. But you're basis is on the fact that if you or the general Australian public havn't heard of a particular player outside the NRL, then they are not top tier. Sorry my friend, thats a very narrow minded way of thinking. I havn't never heard of you. But I'm not judging your abilities on your unfamiliarities.

Blair was high profile we got him as well.

I think we are in for a real good run moving forward, we have a series of very talented players coming through, most successful runs start with a group of good youngsters coming through all at the same time. We have that now

In reality not to many big name players change club from year to year.

For instance this year, who are the big name signings?

Two of them one Roosters and one Canberra forward. Both of whom I know pretty well.

It wasn't in those exact words. There were some expletives thrown in but that was the gist.

I am aware of it because I was having the conversation
