It seems those who need to prescribe how others should be, tend to need others to mirror themselves to alleviate their insecurities. Hence, Mr Jones, well known for struggling to face his homosexuality.
Hence, also, the Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi chant being little more than a hollow, alcohol fuelled act of belligerence, for the most part.
Team Australia is just another cheap version of right wing (Bush/Reagan) politics, which relies on creating enemies to keep the nation focused outward, while the local landscape is manipulated to favour their corporate backers.
As in the past, it will be the people who pay for politicians playing such games, when they get sent to the frontline, or killed in terrorist attacks.
Perhaps if the wealthy West had have done more to acknowledge the atrocities of colonial exploits, and regulated corporate imperialism, those enemies who have become a self-fulfilling prophecy might be a little less determined to annihilate us (religious fanaticism aside).
And instead we could be spending more of our time focused inwards, moulding an Australian culture, relying less on cliches and more on substance, protecting our precious gifts: beautiful beaches, forests, waterways, farming land, desert landscapes, tens of thousands of years of Aboriginal wisdom, a generous and compassionate multicultural society, an intelligent, sustainability-minded corporate culture able to engage in new technologies and the new economies they create, willing to protect our children from the devastation of climate change etc etc
If that's what Oi Oi Oi had come to represent, I'd be happy to belt it out.
But alas, this Treehugger will continue to cringe every time I hear it, and will be boycotting Australia Day until we acknowledge how offensive it is to Aboriginal people, and create an alternative day for celebrating our nation.
That man you speak of so negatively on the right of politics Reagan, was responsible for ending communism and bringing down the Berlin wall.
2 things that seamt completely impossible, throw in the Iran hostage situation and the guys a complete genius. You do speak of truths in regards to colonial exploits you do raise a good point I will agree but its a sad reality that who ever was the colonial power at the time was guilty of such atrocities whether it be western owned or eastern owned. And its been proven time and time again that the West treats its captives better than any other civilization.
This is an inconvenient truth for someone like you on the extreme left of politics that does his best to point out every little thing that is wrong with Australia.Despite the fact that Australia is a pure breed champion and the countries that plan to wipe it off the planet but are nothing but a complete mange filled mongrel.
But keep on knocking the pure breed and boycott Australia Day pal Im sure if it wasnt the Aborigines you would find some other reason to boycott Australia Day.The whole aboriginal thing for you is just a cop out its boycotting anything pro Australian that motivates you.You speak of our lovely deserts and our rainforests,Beautiful beaches etc etc well the only reason we enjoy them today is because the two things you cringe about most 1.WAR and The heroic deeds of "TEAM AUSTRALIA" and 2.The fact that Australia unlike 80% of the rest of the world is not a corruptible dog box so that we have kept our beautiful forests, waterways etc as they are and not suffered "TOO much" thru complete mismanagement.

You speak of a generous and compassionate multicultural society, well they are virtues that "TEAM AUSTRALIA" has given them and the large percentage repay our faith but sadly not all.You know its a bloody long way from the middle east to Australia for a refugee and despite the 75 countries in between saying "get lost we aint havin ya"(including all their islamic brothers….HMMMMMM)you still seem to have the greatest problem with that one "racist" country that says yes will have you......you know that place you speak so negatively of "TEAM AUSTRALIA".
I hope you do realise that as you crap on Australia at every given chance there is an opposition just over the hill hoping to destroy every little thing that you and I cherish and as this cancer continues to grow at a phenomenal rate you just keep having a crack at the one thing that continues to fight it........"TEAM AUSTRALIA''.As the thread title does read AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI.
You represent Team Australia well Jerry.
You keep writing like that Murdoch will have you editing The Australian in no time.
We will, however, have to agree to disagree.
