Benji "I've got to weigh up all my options"

I am a Benji supporter but hearing him on the footy show made me want to tell him to feck off total lack of respect for the fans and the club with that kind of wankerish attitude

I wish the media would pull their head in and stop igniting the flames which they started around this issue. May be with the State of Origin decider coming up they will have somewhere else to turn their attention to in the next fortnight.

How's that a lack of respect he just saying he will weigh all options. Every player does that. He said he would NEVER play for another nrl side. How's that a lack of respect. If anything that's a respectful thing to say. He will stay

I didn't see it, Boonboon, what did he say?

How so?? He flat out said he would never play against the tigers and therefore would not play for another NRL club. If he can't sort things with the tigers then its union only. Not exactly disrespectful - in fact overly respectful to a club possibly turning him away.

Over this crap , Tigers call his bluff cause his not going anywhere….. has a career waiting for him on the Footy show .
He is just trying to squeeze as much out of us as he can.

He's allowed to comment on his own future. He's a big name player. All the other big players do it as well. There's an old expression.

“Quando dio, ole castigarci ci manda, quello che desideriamo".
Which means…

**When the Gods wish to punish us. They answer our Prayers.**

He's a once in a lifetime player. A club legend just as much as anyone else. I want him to stay. If he goes we will regret it.

I agree

Would you pay him the 800K a season Tauber is reportedly demanding?

Yeah I would. He's a proven winner, and is devoted to this club.

Thurston is supposedly the best half in the game… (but look at where the Cowboys are atm??) He's just been resigned at 29 years old for 5 million over 4 seasons! Maybe he's not as good as Thurston..(he did beat him in 05 Final and in the World Cup Final & Tri Series Final and All Stars match however....)

He's as good as Todd Carney
He's as good as Cherry Evans
He's as good as John Sutton
He's better than Mitchell Pearce
He's better than Peter Wallace
He's better than Scott Prince
He's better than Jarrod Mullen
He's better than Jamie Soward.
He's better than Luke Walsh
He's better thank Chris Sandow

He's one of the best. He's been loyal to the club for a decade. He was never like Hayne or Dugan or Carney and got lost on the sauce. He never beat up his GF, or took drugs. He's had to come back from injury after injury and had people doubting him the whole time when we struggled from 2006-2009\. He's got us sponsors, raised the profile of the club. If we was that greedy he wouldve done a SBW or Folau ages ago and whored himself out to the highest bidder after we won the Comp. Even now he cannot bring himself to consider playing against us, such is his love and passion for WT.

I don't trust the Wests Tigers record in handling of key player contracts and recruitment. This club is guilty of always thinking that whatever replacements come in are always going to work. They suck at it. **They do**. They really really suck at buying and keeping players. Don't blame Sheens, Don't blame humpty, don't blame Mcdonnell. Wests Tigers just aint good at it.

If Wests Tigers have such an eye about Juniors, and can tell that Brooks and Moses are a sure thing... Why have we bought Pat Richards when we already have Koro, Simona and Nofo already on our books. Hmmmm? It doesn't add up... What if Simona goes to the Sharks?? Why was he left unsigned for next year when he can run in 104 meter tries against the Premiers?

Anyway I'm ranting. But thats just how I see things.

Well said, he deserves to stay even out of form

That's how I see things too.

My impression is Benji is loyal but doesn't want that loyalty to be too much at the cost of his family's potential future. He does not appear to be completely driven by money; in fact, he's too often not ruthless enough on or off the field.

But Benji has pulled the pants down of our opposition and made my day more times than anyone else that's played for this club for a long time. The fact he hasn't done that - as much - in the context of a reserve grade team for the past 18mths should be no surprise at all. But even then he topped try assists last year.

Im a stickler for loyalty I admit it. So I think he deserves some flex. That's all he appears to be asking for.

You name all those players, yet Marshall would be on much more coin than all of them.

For $800K, I'm sorry but you can't dish up what Benji has in the past 18 months. It is simply not good enough.

He spoke really well again and again he cops criticism.

He said he wouldn't even consider playing for another RL club. He probably feels that he is getting screwed over a little bit and he still tries to back the club and its fans up. To be fair I think he should though simply accept the offered contract and just get on with it.

I hope he stays however I think the current situation is just getting to out of hand. He should just sign up for the next 2 years or even get a contract extension for less money.

Benji will decide his own destiny.
He knows he has limited time left in NRL.
regardless of the outcome, and where he ends up, a bit of respect should be given for making the decision.

I'd take the upgraded offer and play the next 2 years out and hang the boots up if I was Benji. He's got a buggered shoulder which won't improve with age, so why risk making it worse in the long run by continuing to play a physical game? Pull the pin while you're 30-31 and look to do something else. Clearly there are media opportunities for Benji, and he's a reasonably smart guy, he could also do some study or continue to work in Rugby League as an ambassador…he'd have heaps of options open to him. I just 2 years is a long time in Rugby League and he'd be at a stage where it would be an ideal time to move on and do something else.

We are stuffed and doomed for mediocrity if he accepts upgrade. Best result would be if he goes to union. Not a time or place for sentimentality and we owe him nothing. Weak clubs with weak leadership will bend to this sort of pressure. We need to take a stand.
