Marshall reunites with master coach for 2021 after signing a new NRL deal. Wests Tigers legend Benji Marshall is set to play his 19th NRL season at the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

7NEWS’ Michelle Bishop has revealed the skillful playmaker has signed at South Sydney on a one-year deal for 2021, after he was shown the door by Tigers coach Michael Maguire in late 2020.

The 324-game star will be reunited with Wayne Bennett at Souths, the master coach he played under during his short stint at the Broncos.

The 35-year-old is in the twilight of his career but will provide valuable experience / injury cover to established halves Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker at Redfern.

Good luck to the guy but this has to be the end of any discussion around ambassador / front office roles for Benji and the Wests Tigers. He has made his decision and Wests will hopefully move on.

He could easily come back in that role. He will always be remembered as a Wests Tigers player.

Robbie is back at the club and he went to Souths.

I wish him the best every time he plays apart from against us.

Agree mate, I don't get the hate. He just thinks he has another year in him. Good luck Benji!

I don't hate him, I don't even begrudge him going around again. I just didn't want it to be with us.

I agree, his time with us was up after his supposed 2018 swan song season

If Cochise is correct and Benji does come back, which I don’t agree with, it better be nothing to do with coaching or being around training.

Benji is one of the few Wests Tigers greats, (maybe our greatest,) but he was never a great team player.

He has let his ego get the better of him at times, doing things against the club, yet that ego contributed to him being as great as he was.

I would prefer our clubs greatest players to be a player that always stood by our club, but sadly at the moment we don't have one of those. Then I think about our history, our mismanagement, and I cant blame the players really.

I think we had one in Chris Lawrence myself.

I think Robbie did as well . He got shafted by Taylor , and even though he needed to relinquish the power he had around the joint , you’d hardly say he wasn’t completely pro tigers . It’s as if he never spent that 18 months at Souths now .

The board shafted Robbie through Taylor and then the board shafted Taylor after the job was done.
Get it right.

Also , if we want to be ? transparent , it was Taylor who decided Robbie wasn’t worth the money he was on , and went to the board with a plan proving it , to replace most of his production with Matt ballin , who played 1 game for us . To imply poor Taylor is ridiculous . The board was off Farah after the Potter incident , so it jumped at the chance . But it doesn’t really matter as they were in it together . There were no victims in the whole thing, apart from us fans , because robbies who needed a check as well. Everyone sux here .

I can't believe people still believe Taylor was the driving force to remove Robbie.
Taylor has pretty much said it himself and the reason why he was so hurt by his firing.
He got fired for doing his job.

He got fired for being a terrible coach

So odd, if it comes true. Turn down shots at playing to play for North Sydney for a year. He'll barely play a couple of games unless there's heaps of injuries. He'll retire a NSW Cup player.

I think it’s great that Benji is in good physical condition and has the desire to play on, but if he comes back to WT the club will need a good supply of Termidor.

What about a good supply of eggs?

I truly hope that it works out well enough that he sees some reasonable game time and if not it will be a sad way to end the career of such a former bright burning light.

All that will do is fuel the fire for journalists and arm chair fans to start spewing out even more "tiGeRs SHoUld oF kePT BeNji"

"ill never play for another club again" - Benji 2013

Goes on to play for: Dragons, Broncos, Souths.

"One more year" - Benji & Robbie 2018

Goes on and creates infighting and media drama when he wanted another contract on top of the 2 years he already got after that.

"I am willing to play for a minimal contract" Benji 2020

Declines Cowboys, Sharks because of money

"this is my home" - Benji 2020

Declines an off field role to help bring the club into the future and decides to play reserve grade at another club at age 37.

I love Benji, he is a club legend and forever grateful for the highlights he brought us...but Benji in the final years of his career has been all ego talk, telling the fans and media what they want to hear and no walk and to me that has tarnished what could of been an outstanding Wests Tigers legacy.

All the best Benji, the club will move on without you :+1:

"He is a leader of men, he has been playing at the highest levels of the game over a long and distinguished career, he comes with the highest of recommendations from Wayne (Bennett), he will provide great support to the experienced halves pairing we have in Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker and his experience and knowledge that he can pass down to the young up-and-coming halves we have at the Club will be priceless."

I wouldn't want him to come near our young up-and-coming halves... there will be a lot of hail mary plays if they get coached by him... so goodluck wabbits

Can't see him getting any game time unless there's multiple Injuries to their halves. They've already got some decent young fellas who can fill in if someone goes down

I don't see is as bad if he plays reserves all year. He obviously just loves playing footy. Let him enjoy it.

“I’ll never play for another club”
“One more year” - Benji 2018
“Tigers is my home”
They just get greedy as seasons go by

-Finally no more brain explosion grubber kicks that sail dead in the very last minute
-Hail mary floater passes towards row 5
-Poor Defender
-Kicking directly into opposition feet every time on 5th tackle
-Not a team player, tries to take it all on himself
Tigers vs Souffs @ Leichhardt will be a cracka ?
