Benji Marshall #70

I will tell you what you don’t see. He’s an outstanding bloke and outstanding with the players we had at the time," Bennett said.

"We had a lot of young players at the Broncos there and I can’t give him enough accolades for the contribution he made.

"He respected being part of the team up there and he got a great deal of respect from the players because of his attitude and his professionalism and the way he helped a lot of them."

LEGEND BENJI 💙💙💙

Best thing about Benji he was not a robot like so many other players today. You never ever knew what he was going to deliver, it could be the dumbest play ever to a play the Joey Johns could not dream to deliver.

At the end of the day his highlight reel was probably the best watch of any player in the past 20 years. Anyway if he had turned up at Bondi as a kid and not Concord who knows what he would have achieved. Of course one last thing, how tuff was he to come back from something like five shoulder reconstructions. Will miss him but most certainly time to move on

I remember he suffered a fractured cheekbone in the first half of a game at Cambo I think before all his shoulder probs... Played the whole game with a broken face

He has been a really good player for us. I've enjoyed his second stint. He has come back to us with the ability to create something for the team and he has been much more solid.

I'd love him here next year on the same contract. He still offers as much or more as any other half on our books and he is a great back-up option.

Earl As passionate as we all are about Benji and his great career...be completely honest with yourself,if Benji is here again next year the culture wont change for another 12 months and I couldnt watch his defense, questionable kick options or his last tackle options for another season.....Benji WAS great and now he needs to hang up the boots mate....

I think he should hang up his boots. I don't think he is any worse than any of our halves. The problem is we can't get rid of those halves and we only need all of those guys as bodies to fill a role until we purchase or develop some quality halves.

No player in the modern era has a highlight reel like Benji Marshall. If you need any reminding take a look at YouTube and just enjoy the sheer wonder of it. People will bang on about "Future Immortals", but I'm not sure that anyone ever bought a ticket to an NRL game to watch Cameron Smith play, or Cooper Cronk or JT for that matter. Exceptional, once in a generation players, yes, but not in the same league as B Marshall for bring a crowd into the ground and to its' feet. The Tiges should keep him. He and Nofoaluma are the only two players that even look like mounting any attack. Offload Mbye and Reynolds. I preferred the Tim Sheens version of the Tigers - doesn't matter how many the other team score we will score more! The best coaches don't have one style that the team needs to conform to. They assess what talent they have at their disposal and then play to those strengths and flex the playing style accordingly. You will never out-Rooster the Roosters or out-Storm the Storm so best to find a completely different style of your own and compete that way. I reckon the Walker brothers would be a great fit for Wests Tigers. .

Good. See ya Benji. Hope he goes to the broncos. I'd love to see them miss the 8 again. Loved him back in the day when he was a bit of a magician. Laughed at his rubbish at the dragons, despaired at the return to the tigers. If only he was half as good as he considers himself to be.

Pathetic post

It's how I feel. Just being straight up. Say what you want. Doesn't phase me.

There are plenty of other threads where people can have a crack at him, you couldn't leave this one to be a positive thread

Yeah, maybe you're right. Oh well, it's done now

You said you loved him back in the day. What did you love?

Everything. His zip, his ability to create magic on the field. His match winning abilities, he was an excitement machine. It stopped around 2012 from memory.

And that flick pass to Pat Richards in the GF was THE highlight of all.

Bloody brilliant mate

And very sad vision of Benji that night.

I know how much Benji has meant to the WTs and the fans and supporters, having said that Benji must have had an idea that his contract would not have been renewed and the possibility that retirement was looming quickly ....
The pace of the game, his poor defense and he and Brooks not being able to close out games must have been weighing on his mind...I do hope he fulfills he ambitions for 2021...I will always admire him for what he has done for the WTs and rugby league at the highest level, however I wouldnt like to see him bow out on a negative, especially what he has done for the game...

Too many fans still piss in his pocket TT .....we all struggle to admit we can't do what we did 15 years ago

That was my point Hap,Benji must have known that his time in the big arena was coming to a close...Admire him greatly...but he WAS brilliant in past years ...not as good now and I wouldnt like to see him get severely injured or slide downhill because he cant do what he used to so easily...
