Benji Marshall #70

Sick of the whole Benji media circus. Really I don’t care how he found out that he was not getting a gig in 2021, and yes I understand he is not happy and wants another year to go out on his terms, but there are about 8 other guys being shown the door, rightly or wrongly, but there is no media circus with them.

Bitterness gets you nowhere and is such a negative emotion to deal with and some people can never rid themselves of bitterness. Anyway, I hope he finds a new club, has a good year and retires with a smile on his dial

I was totally with you up until your last sentence.

Benji Marshall played his final game for the Wests Tigers on Saturday after learning through the media he would not be re-signed for 2021.

However, the 35-year-old was all smiles as he spent his first day out of the NRL's biosecurity bubble on Monday at the launch of Pixar Putt with his wife, Zoe, and their two-year-old son, Fox.

The family were in good spirits as they tested out the Pixar-themed mini-golf course at Bankwest Stadium, in western Sydney.

The rugby league player looked stylish in an all-white ensemble featuring shorts, sneakers and a hoodie.

Benji was also sporting a large leg brace following his injury during Saturday's game.

Zoe, 36, cut an effortlessly chic figure in a pair of denim jeans and a white T-shirt, which she paired with white sneakers and a brown coat.

The mother of one wore her cropped black hair in a half-updo and concealed her gaze behind trendy sunglasses.

Their son, Fox, looked adorable in a pair of chinos and a grey jumper as he enjoyed trying out all the obstacles.

The outing comes after Benji turned down an offer to bring his family on the field for his final game in a swipe to the Wests Tigers after learning through the media he would not be re-signed to the club.

He chose to walk his honorary lap alone to mark his send-off at Bankwest Stadium, on Saturday night.

His wife and son were nowhere to be seen while outgoing teammate Chris Lawrence accompanied Marshall with his wife, Kathrynn, and their daughter, Emme.

The NRL had successfully applied for an exemption for the two players to have their families on the field following the Wests Tigers v Eels showdown.

But the sportsman refused the invitation following the team's decision to let him go, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Benji had been hoping to play for another year with the Tigers, and only found out he would not be re-signed for 2021 after reading about it in the news.

None of the players has been picked up by other clubs so far, including Benji.

Strangest article I've seen yet.

Dont know how an article about what clothes Benji wore to putt putt golf, can include so many digs at wests tigers.

Benji has to learn what many others have had to learn over the years when your input to games is below average, especially in defense ...you are no longer required but thank you for your services you have been paid well for most of your career...
Lets not forget that the club legend decided the grass was greener in other pastures, but it wasnt and the WTs gave him an opportunity to come home again...
stop sulking and take it like a man, your only doing yourself a diservice and tainting the great legacy you leave behind...

TT, are you deliberately being offensive? Marshall is no longer with the Club. His legacy will remain. Let's see how your poster pin up Reynolds finishes his career.

Not sure why the club is in "the bad books" given no one else is seems to be interested in picking him up

Yea , I have to say I don’t get it either . I’m just guessing but they have said an out of Sydney club has offered him a minimum contract , so I would guess it’s probably the warriors , and maybe titans, as well as some English clubs. No one is offering him a first grade spot in the NRL. And if he stays here , it’s a media circus every week , because whoever is getting picked above him . It’s counter intuitive to progressing the club ,as in the back of everyone’s mind there’s an idea to just give the legend a go. Plus , does he really want to languish in reserve grade ? The broncos and dragons were case in point of this. There just won’t be the same nostalgic loyalty from fans , coaches , administrators etc. that he affords here. He played mostly Queensland cup , prior to coming home. And that was 4 years ago .

He has media mates

Similar to Sheens. Even though we only made the finals 3 times in a decade under him, he was made of Teflon. Was only at the very end that the media started putting the spotlight on him. Still can’t understand how the club kept him on 4 years after the gf with no finals appearances.

Mate we are in the bad books for "low balling" Alex Johnston too . Never heard of the journo and sure as hell never read the Daily Mail. One thing i will say is when you get a club as well supported as ours, it's easy clicks and that equals lazy "journalism" (i use that term very loosely)

I have often wondered if Benji would have been a much better player if he had a mentor buddy like Cam Smith has. I think that relationship Cammy has with Bellyache has been instrumental in the team’s success. Which coach has been able to get the best out of Benji?

The object of the article was to have digs at Wests Tigers. Marshall could have been sitting in a cafe drinking latte and the resulting article would have digs at WT.

We are a club that attracts interest - even when not much is happening. When they stop writing about us then that's when you should be worried.

I dont care if Reynolds goes next year or Madge has plans for him....Benji has been an icon over the years and I have followed him throughout his career, but time has caught up with him and so has the game...believe and say what you want of me ,but it wont change my opinion of what he should do...retire and leave an everlasting legacy of being a brilliant and talented player...he should also support the way the WTs are going in the future which doesnt include him on the field,we will have young players trying to establish themselves, just the way Benji did..
