If you needed any proof that this club is pack filled of absolute halfwits .....this decision proves it .....

How much proof do we need that going back to the 2005 well is a failure .....and has never worked

But there is no proof... Yet.
Maybe it won't work,. Maybe it will

No Proof Ink ...your seriously taking a lend

How many players have we employed within roles with absolutely no success ........

These are different people we are talking about

Different people ...what there is another Benji Marshall .....
They're in different roles now... Doing different things... Give em a chance

Could you see any other of the 15 clubs giving someone a 3rd chance after what he had done to WT's each time after not getting his way

Your answer is there .....

Benji sticks his knife into the WT's ...and how do we respond .....welcome back Benji ......

And this is exactly what is wrong with with this club and why it is a complete failure ......

I agree. Every time Benji hasn’t gotten his way he stomps his feet and blames the club. Constant criticism but it’s fine because he knows he can walk back in whenever he wants.

Sadly half the fans go along with his victim mentality

I don't - The fact he "assumed" he should be offered a contract last year "If he decided to play on" was not lost on me,
Or the rubbish that came before when he wanted a 2 year extension on a deal he still had 2 years on and he was playing garbage....
It's always been about him, Until there was someone to blame for not winning...
He distanced himself from that really well in his time here.

I don't think having a guy that never learnt to play the game (in 20 years) coaching is a good idea... Not at all.
But if he's going around gathering up kids to be put through the system.... It's Benji Marshall - I feel a lot more people are going to take him on board than they are a Warren McDonnell type...

That’s exactly it - young kids and sponsors yes; football team no

He actually analyses the game really well. I like how he breaks down plays and think his input could be valuable in that role.

Was that before or after he throws a pass into the grandstand or kicks on the 2nd tackle with no chasers.Hopefully he will learn from the mistakes he made as a player and get it across to the current mob that you can't always play off the cuff footy like he did.

I am not talking about his onfield play, if you have watched in the few times he has broken plays down during commentary on games and halftime discussion, he did it a dew times when employed by Ch 9, he is actually really good in that role.

He played off the cuff too much as a player but that does not mean that there is not a more analytical side that could be used in coaching, it is there, I have seen it. I just think he was too instinctive on the field to take advantage of it.

The best players don't necessarily make the best coaches. Maybe Benji could be a great coach. I don't know. I'd give him a chance.

I agree that Benji is a little too emotional at times. It makes him say and do some dumb stuff. At the end of the day though he loves the Tigers.

I don't think he ever grew up, he is still that teenager that won the 2005 Premiership. I little bit of Peter Pan syndrome in my opinion.

Exactly, I think the club has probably played a role in him developing that way as well. I am happy he is back and think he will be a positive for the club.

Doubt he would be involved with the club if he didn't want to see it move forward. Plenty of scope to pass judgement over some of his career decisions, but in terms of his presence, and contribution to the modern game - love him or hate him - there are few that can match Benji.

Anyone can break a play down once it has happened ..it 20/20 vision to someone with half a football brain .....helping a player like Madden or even Brooks for example is saying to him ....this is the situation ...what is your best Option from 1 to 4 ...and why do you choose the option .....like it isn't that hard when you have the skills and talents and the confidence to use them

I can't get passed all the penalty kicks for touch he did that never made touch...
As soon as we get a penalty, the anxiety kicks in - I'd love to know if there's a stat on it, I'm sure he'd own it...
Felt like every second time he'd kick for touch he'd not make it.... Drove me crazy!!

15 Years in the game and couldn't kick the ball over the sideline....

Holy crap I'd take the Benji years back in an instant compared to what we have endured over the last ten seasons - passes to the grandst kicks not making touch, and all. At least every game he played i felt we were a chance to win. These days getting beat by less than 20 is a relief and winning a game is like Christmas.

Easy for us all to remember the highlights mate...

I remember the games he played where you could tell 10 minutes in that we were going to get lapped badly...
Only to have to watch exactly that happen.

ps: Benjis' tigers career had 3 seasons with us winning more than we lost... We may have felt like we were a chance of winning... Didn't make it happen though

You can't attribute our losses to Benji alone. That's like saying the rest.of the squad were not accountable and relied solely on him. And if that's the case how many of our games would we have won without him?

I know we haven't had much good news the last couple of years but I see some slight changes which give me hope. Sheens back to give us direction off the field, Benji now on board and returning to his home, flicking our old defence coach and replacing with new blood and a group of young fella's who have the potential to build into a good side. You never know and by the way I still believe in Santa. !!!!!!

Benji is gonna have no influence on the field. He’ll be in corporate boxes sipping champagne. A pure PR move by the club. His role has no significance

Whether his role is on or off the field is irrelevant …. this move has a lot of upside and is significant for the look of the Club.

I completely disagree. It is the exact opposite of a good look for the club. The "look", to me, is that the plan for the future is to forget about the evolution of the game, ignore the opportunity for innovation and generational change, and reinstate Sheens, McDonnell and Marshall to bolster their pensions; because it's "nice" and "deserved".

Chairman Mouth, Pascoe and Board have no vision, at all. This cannot be considered a serious, professional NRL club with that lot ruling the roost.

?
Why carryon about a decision that has been made as if your opinion matters one iota?
Stamping your feet gets none of us anywhere.
I look forward to your assessment if these changes reap a finals appearance because nothing the club has tried for a decade has worked. These guys together have delivered our only successes as a club…you have no evidence that it will fail at this stage.

Well Selena, welcome to the WTF. In just 4 short days you've managed to present yourself as a woman of intellect and reason that we should all pay attention to. It's obvious you think your opinion matters more than mine and that decisions of the club shouldn't be commented upon. Or, maybe just the ones that don't suit you?

As for current "evidence" of future outcomes?? Umm, I don't have any.

But, I'm sure all of us would appreciate you giving us the Powerball numbers for next week.

Many thanks in anticipation.

I obviously cannot see into the future.
On the back of no evidence to the contrary at this stage, I am choosing optimism as my viewpoint towards the squad’s 2022 endeavours.
Many on here have chosen pessimism. It gets tiresome to read.

'I proved them wrong': Benji wants kids to 'Dream Big'
NRL.com Author Brad Walter

Benji Marshall was told he was too small, too slow and that his sidestep and flick pass wouldn’t be effective in the NRL.

But after a 19-year career in which he achieved everything in the game, few players can claim to have had as great an influence on kids wanting to play rugby league than the Kiwi superstar.

Now Marshall wants to encourage others to follow their dreams like he did and is hosting a charity event at Leichhardt Oval on Friday, December 17 featuring appearances and performances by NRL stars, Olympian Cate Campbell and The Wiggles.

Marshall’s "Dream Big" charity event will also include a performance by aspiring Sydney-based singer Noora H, which he said was a real-life example of someone being afforded an opportunity to fulfil their ambitions.

“Believe in yourself, don’t be afraid to chase your dreams; if you work hard enough you can achieve your goals and we are showing that through a lot of different people who were told when they were young that they wouldn’t make it,” Marshall said.

“That’s why I am with the charity, because it reminds me of when I was a kid. I grew up poor, I didn’t have a lot of money or opportunities, but I moved out of home when I was 15, I chased my dream and I worked hard.

“Everyone told me that I was never going my make it, my steps were ugly, my flick passes were low percentage and next minute I am playing NRL for 19 years.

“They said I couldn’t tackle, I was too slow … I heard it all. ‘You are just a little Maori boy who should stay at home’, but I proved them all wrong.

“It doesn’t matter what colour you are, where you are from, what your background is, how much money you have got, if you want to work hard enough and you want to dream big go for it.”

The Wiggles, Isaiah Firebrace and Chris Sebastian will also perform, along with Noora H.

“As we are presenting these messages we have got a girl with us who is proof,” Marshall said.

“Noora is a Muslim girl who wears a hijab and she has been knocked back so many times because of the way she looks.

“She is an amazing singer, she can sing like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. She is talented and isn’t going to change for anyone.

“We are giving her the chance to live her dream by performing on the stage with so many other performers in front of a big crowd. She is going to have a crack and hopefully something comes of it.”

Actor Vince Collosimo and radio duo Will and Woody will also be involved, along with the cast of Celebrity Apprentice Australia, which will feature Marshall in 2022.

“There is going to be lots of giveaways, lots of prizes and lots of things for charity,” Marshall said. “Some of the footy boys are going to come, whoever can and whoever is allowed, and we will be just giving away signed footies and signed merchandise for donations.”
