Benji Marshall and his silly PowerBalance bands

Lol,

I was at Orange Grove Markets at Liverpool yesterday.

Saw them being flogged for 10 bucks each or 2 for 15\. A vendor saw my "interest" (i.e smirking at the claims on the packaging) in the product, and went down the pitch of how he uses them, etc, etc, they work for him, so they MUST work, etc etc..

He then eventually tried to sell me 2 for 10….

Every company overstates the ability of their products. Its up to the consumer to know the product before purchase and whether it's on the level. It seems they've copped a hiding in the media and by the ACCC now, but it's not the first time a company has overstated the effectiveness of a product in advertising. I wonder if anyone has tried to sue that deodorant mob Lynx because they haven't copped a feel in an elevator from a leggy blonde like the TV commercial insinuates…

I agree with getting the information out there to the public so that they are informed about shonky products, but at the end of the day, if they are silly enough to get caught up in the hype and/or not thoroughly research the product and the credibility of it before purchase that is their prerogative. As they say a fool and his money are easily parted.

Give it a rest boys. If Benji or anyone else wants to wear them then that is their business. It is certainly not yours.

It's a valid topic of discussion. I suggest if you don't want to read about it you don't view this topic.

Any of you guys or gals listen to 'The Skeptics Giuld to the Universe
on podcast from the USA?

They've had Richard Saunders and other Aussie skeptics on there recently discussing the Power band.

Some pretty funny stories, they imported the same product from China at less than $1 each and gave them away as Placebo Bands.

Richard Sauders and other Aussie skeptics kick arse.

Avid fan.

@magpiecol: if benji was just wearing it for personal reasons then that's fine. But the problem lies in the fact that PowerBalance are being plugged in WTV episodes and their logo is grouped along side Powerade, Musashi and Elastoplast on the WT website, all giving the impression that PowerBalance is some legitimate sports enhancement.
Whilst holding just short of endorsing it as a beneficial device with tangible benefits, the longer Benji and the club continue to associate themselves with this fraudulent company, the longer kids an parents in the community get the WRONG message about a $79 piece of plastic.

Ever heard the saying "let the buyer beware"?

No one at WT's have asked anyone to buy one as far as I know. Some people believe in ghosts, global warming etc, some people don't.

Let it go.

To an extent I do. If they were charging $79 and calling it a plastic wrist strap I'd agree. But if they're going to use the club to market a hologram power band or whatever they call it and claim it does things that it clearly doesn't - well yeah I have a problem with that.

This club has a lot of kids supporting it. We've seen with Raddisson Maine and Firepower that news stories about shonky businesses nearly always make mention of the clubs they sponsored. I'd rather that every time they ran a story about these shonksters they didn't point out that they are a sponsor of the Wests Tigers.

I can see where Kul is coming from completely. Long term if this anti PB drive gathers real mainstream attention it isn't a good look for the club. Luckily Benji isn't alone though.

I take the approach that if your kid is dumb enough to save up and spend that amount of money on a hologram powered balance ban than he or she has much bigger problems coming their way

Lisa, vampires are make-believe, just like elves, gremlins, and eskimos.

what a waste of a thread. this is getting sad. if benji wants then let him have it. who cares. what about all the other rubbish out there. thats life.

The club wants the fans to become financial members, members of a club that promote a proven shonky product…thats the thing where I dont have to buy one to be directly affected.
Tbh I couldnt give a rats, but in preference I'd prefer the club I support with my cash to be involved in reputable companies and products.

Wow. How noble.

Is that your best Col?
Not much substance there.
Nothing noble about it….I'd hazrd a guess most to all members would feel the same way, its just basic ethics.

I can't get over the fact that you have the hide to tell Marshall what he can or cannot wear. As far as the club goes, I have not seen any Director, CEO, coach or player advertise this product. Get a grip, there are more important things to talk about.
