Blake Austin

Most don't but most do look awesome half the time and better than average the other half in reggies. Austin fits that category.

Tedesco on the other hand made NYC and reggies look like child's play.

If you have a good culture, even the crappiest of players can look good- for eg Melbourne.

The few games of nsw cup that I've watched- the culture seems to be of laziness.

I think there's a lot of untapped potential out there like others here have alluded to. Just cause Austin wasn't killing it in the lower grades doesn't mean he can't do well in the NRL under Potter. Just like poeple say that killing it in NYC doesn't equate to first grade brilliance. Fifita is a prime example, even jennings to some extent. I'm sure there are many others who just needed something to change, whether it be their team mates, the culture, the coaches or just a fresh start they might start killing it once they move.

The opposite clearly occured with Sandow.

Hundreds of kids have potential it comes down to hard work in the end and who wants it more

I don't know , his interview with Fittler with the fresh meat he seemed to be searching for easy options

No one can make it taking the easy options in the NRL

Happy Tiger Simona wasnt "killing it" in State Cup. Some players grow an extra leg when given a chance in the top grade. You cant predict who those guys are, its just trial and error.

I remember Ben Galea wasnt anything great in reserve grade vut played much better in the top grade

As stated when we signed him I think Austin is an absolute gun.

Like all players of his age though he needs that polish in terms of consistency and decision making. I believe Brooks really suits his skill set as a halves partner also.

Moltzen is the unknown quantity in all of this. A shot at 5/8 without Marshall around and the opportunity to be that ball runner.

Austin is a better physical presence and defender but it will be an interesting battle

Austins running and passing game and Brooks' Kicking game will be the perfect combo IMO

I liked the look of Austin in the game last week although I have reservations about him and Brooks being a halves pairing I think Brooks needs more experience beside him I don't know if Anasta is that person but I'm not sure who else there is.
I fear now we finally seem o have a half back we have no 5/8 …...

What about our friend Tim Moltzen :exclamation: although I do agree with your post, at last we have a good up and coming half, but no tried and tested five eighth, it seems Moses is a long way off, and I'm not too sure about Anasta, I know he has experience, but I don't think he stepped up to the plate this season, I was dissapointed with him :crazy

Anasta first 25 minutes and then bring Austin off the bench.

ffs… no.

either austin or moltzen should be in the 6... this off the bench stuff for halves gives us no stability and i cant rememebr any teams who have done this successfully... pearce and maloney. dce and foran.. reynolds and sutton.. cronk and widdop.. reynolds and hodkinson...

no one else does it, and for good reason.

The Rabbitohs did it with Keary, actually.
Queensland did it with DCE
The Bulldogs used to do it with Thurston.

It's not that alien a concept in reality

If we play Moltzen at 5/8 we will always wonder what might have been. I would prefer we try others and fail then to stick with someone who we know isn't right.

Moltzen is the best proven option to get a shot at the #6 (I say this as I would push Sirro into the second row next year,) however Austin would be my pick to get the start. I think he and Brooks would complement each other very well.

Anasta shouldn't get anywhere near the starting 17 next year, the bloke is just not good enough.

Anastavis way behind the pace. His lost what he never really had ! .Austin should be given a go. I can't see any other reason for signin him

Wait and see what happens in pre-season guys. Anasta is not the player he once was and also picked up a couple of injuries during the season. Austin will get his chance one way or another. When he does, I hope he's good enough to hold onto it.

I actually forgot about old mate Moltz I guess he is a possibility if he's here, anything could happen there he could sign with hull and 2 days later extend his contract with us for 3 yrs :bash

I would love the club to chase Pita Godinet from the Warriors or Adrian Davis from the Knights as a backup halfback as well. Both will be down the depth chart at their clubs next year, both talented halfbacks
