Such a strange feeling, happy but sad at the same time. Feel a bit betrayed to be honest, we've shown him so much loyalty and be wants to throw it all away…..guess time will tell what happens

Betrayed???? Omg. Everyone wanted him gone. Would you stay some where where ur not wanted ?????

Gone at the end of his contract yes, breaking a contract because your ego was hurt is childish and unprofessional

i can understand it…
he could stay earning the 500k a year he currently is (like many older players aka lockyer have done).
but he's a sook.
good riddance.

I'm a bit surprised Benji has requested a release given he was offered an upgrade on the final 2 years of his current contract, it would have been easy money so to speak, but now it looks like he clearly wants to challenge himself in Rugby Union, which is fine. He'll certainly be remembered for producing some of the greatest attacking football the game has seen.

Hopefully it's just a formality in approving the release and it will obviously free up some cash for the Tigers to lock in some promising juniors over the next few years. Our halves combo will be very important for next year now.

Wow, I'm sure a lot of people are happy to see the back of him, but this could have serious repercussions next season. Best of luck to benji for his future If true. No matter what has happened, he has been one of the best things to happen to the club on and off the field. 05 gf will always be in my memories.

benji has made his decision.
hopefully he plays extremely well for remainder of the season, and can be proud of his last hurrah. 😛ray:
he know's his time is coming and can see the changing of the guard.

Now if he asked for a release we don't have to pay the prima Donna his last 2 years do we

I don't believe Benji is the one being childish going by some of these comments.

make him honour his contract . he is a greedy dog

Can't say it makes good sense to keep a bloke around that doesn't wanna be here. Let him go and free up some cap space, pity there is no-one left on the open market that is any good though.

hahaha please
he'll be crying on channel 9 about how hard done by he is earning 500k a year continually under performing.

I think we will get the spoon next year.

I don't think it counts as breaking your contract if the club is willing to let you go.

The spoon? What makes you think we will be worse than this year?

More to the point, why do you think St George and parra are going to suddenly improve?

Next year

6\. Anasta/Sironen
7\. Brooks

12\. Sironen (if Anasta picked at 6)

14\. Moses (towards end of the year in Milford type role)

Not the worst situation to be in.

I wish Benji the best. I was one of the few that thought he still had it to recover his form. He certainly deserves more respect than many of the posts above give him. Gave me some of my best moments in being a supporter of league.

If he goes to Union, I strongly doubt he will succeed. I suspect it is too late in his career.

I second this.

Sad to see him go. Besides his obvious faults he is one of the reasons I watch nrl. All the best benji & hope u have a blinder for the Tigers for the rest of 2013!!

This will bring a decent crowd on Friday for one of his last game at Leichhardt?

Lets not be sour and send him off happily!

Feels really weird knowing that he won't be here next year. Probably the best thing for both parties but. Thanks for the memories Benji.

No need to panic thinking this means Moses will come in. Anasta or Sironen will play 6 next year.

This is great news for Brooks and the team. Luke will now come in next year being in a structured environment lead by Farah and Anasta, knowing exactly what his role is. That wouldnt happen with Benji there. Also, we couldnt afford to have Brooks and Marshall defending in the same team.

Some of you blokes are really building Brooks up for a fall. Lets not build the entire future around a kid who hasn't even played first grade.

Hmm… Do we have a better 5/8 at the club? No.

Do we have anyone with his profile that brings the $$ through the door? No.

It's a big hit for the club, and an unexpected one too.

Despite his poor form of late, I'm in shock and gonna miss the guy. Good luck Benji, and thanks for the memories.

most things in life eventually come to an end.
best of luck for your future, in which ever code you play.
thanks for the memories.

have a happy and enjoyable life with your family.
footy is only for a limited time, family is forever

Mixed feelings to be honest…. Would have liked him to stay till 2015 to raise the young halves.. I think we have 5/8 covered next year with braith and sirro. Will follow benji with interest to see if he regains his 2005-6 & 2010-11 form. He has been great to watch( on the footy) field. I just hope he doesn't carry on like a tool on the media....
