BREAKING - MARSHALL LEAVING

all good things come to a end, he has been a great player for the tigers, but he has been a shadow of himself this year, his defence is terrible and he refuses to run the ball now, what did he think the club was going to do , give him a million dollars, to produce crap like that for the next 2-4 years.
you have been great please try and go out the same way, benji, THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES

Does anyone ever gauge how much $$$$$ a player brings to the club??

Possibly why Hyundai is not renewing!!

so u sugeest we resign a guy for 700k a season (worth about 300k on current form) so we get sponsorship money?

we'll get sponsors by winning, by signing the right players, by not resigning the wrong guys.

club should formalise this ASAP.

Not what I am saying at all, I agree with regret the decision as I have loved everything he has brought all of us on this forum for a decade.

However my question is still what is a player worth that brings so much in??

Thanks for the memories Benji. But I'm stoked about your decision, no disrespect I think he's a great person and has tremendous values that are rare these days and I take my hat off to him for that. But his game has been crumbling for years with no sign of getting better. I'm a Wests Tigers fan first and foremost and the best thing for the club was Benji not being in the side so I'm over the moon that he's going, should of happened 3 years ago, I'd have less grey hair and more as well.

All the best Benji

Mixed feelings here, I would be angry if he chose another club.

In the end his form didnt warrant additional $$$,

Legals need to be very clear as to who he can play NRL with for 14/15

R Farah is our real marquee.

It will be sad when Marshall is no longer at the club.

11 seasons
193 games
1 premiership
1078 points
76 tries
countless frustrations
countless memories

It really will be an end of an era…

... but that of course also means the start of a new era. New players, new heroes for the kids, new causes of heart aches and head aches...

Will it be a good era? No idea, but as always, us fans will strap ourselves in for the ride!

Next year

6\. Anasta/Sironen
7\. Brooks

12\. Sironen (if Anasta picked at 6)

14\. Moses (towards end of the year in Milford type role)

Not the worst situation to be in.

I wish Benji the best. I was one of the few that thought he still had it to recover his form. He certainly deserves more respect than many of the posts above give him. Gave me some of my best moments in being a supporter of league.

If he goes to Union, I strongly doubt he will succeed. I suspect it is too late in his career.

I hope wherever he ends up he finds a new lease on his career and makes a real fist of it.

I think the move is both best for him and the club.

Good luck Benji, thanks for the memories.

Very sad day. Can we please stop all the knocking now and start the 'thanks for the memories' pages?

I for one am devastated. Benji leaving really means a new era.

Some of my best Tiger memories are of Benji's plays. They are etched in my brain.

In 20 years time we will talk about him as the greatest attacking weapon we have ever seen.

The greatest Wests Tiger ever.

x2

So many short memories here. We are going to miss him more than we know. I for one will not like seeing Benji in any other jersey in any code.

x 3 … if one player single handedly raised the profile of the weststigers it was benji.

Thanks benji for being such a great servant of our great club. I will always appreciate your loyalty. You have had your ups and downs but you have fought your way back with the help of the club from many injuries, and delivered what a lot of tiger/magpie legends didn't and that is a premiership. Lets see the old benj without all the pressure for the last 8 weeks and sneak into the 8!!!!

"What a great night for the Benji Haters" you little beauty!

Why don't you all have the courage to start a thread where you can all put your names on a list so when 2014 season is in full swing and the Tigers are once again cellar dwellars, I can then watch with anticipation on who is the next target for your venom?

With Ayshford and Marshall both gone for 2014 and only the signing of old Pat Richards you guys are putting great expectations on young Brooks. Oh I nearly forgot to mention you also want to elevate Moses to once again "Part the Red Sea". I have said it in previous posts you haters are sorry sorry lot .
For me personally I am sad to see Marshall leave the Tigers as I believe his experience in settling the young kids into 1st Grade would have been invaluable and might have also given his own game a new lease of footy life.

I hate those who are abusing him now as much as you. It's fair to ask him to be released in the last few months, and he has so just leave it alone. Thank him for the memories.

But, I don't think everyone is putting hopes on JUST brooks/moses. Nofo, sue, simona, woods, farah, teddy, buchanan, sirro, santi, lovett all play a major role in that too!

1 or 2 players wont get you very far, especially 18 year old ones. You need a team which is what we will have in 2015 if we can keep all these guys

It must be easier to label anyone who disagrees with you as a hater then to discuss the obvious concerns.

All good things must come to an end. Whilst it's sad to see such an iconic member of our club leave, I'm glad management have opened their eyes and making the call now rather than 2 or 3 years too late when the shine is rubbed off even more.

I'm liking the culture Mayer and Potter are bringing to the table. It seems Farah is as well given the fact he signed on long term so early in Potter's tenure. If Marshall didn't want to buy in to it then adios amigo. We've sustained mediocrity for far too long and if tough calls need to be made to drag ourselves out of the heap then I'm glad we've got the right people in the right jobs to do it.

Yes there's elements of sadness. But I can see a very bright future for this club.

I remember reading a paragraph in the brief update section of the paper about one of the greatest prospects in the game that we had signed from under the Broncos nose, and the next year he was in first grade stepping around everyone!

But the reality check is, are you happy to keep him at the club for $750K a year. He doesn't step any more and he isn't fast any more. I would feel worse if we lost a couple of juniors to keep him for an extra couple of years.

This gives a junior an opportunity to step up, and it won't be Moses who is at least a couple of years away from First Grade. It is time for Sirro to steer the club around the park. I would have liked Benji there for a couple more years to coach the younger kids…...but he is not going to teach them how to kick to the in goal on the last or to kick a penalty out on the full is he.

I love his flamboyance and his loyalty to the club - that is admirable. But he is just not worth $750K per year over the next 3 or 4 years! I hate to say it but this might be the final cog in removing the soft underbelly....

Dawn of a new day….

I think that this is a necessary step, the most necessary step, in the rebirth of the Wests Tigers. We have a new crop of players come through, skillful, some with flair, others hard working, and we can now lay a solid platform to move forward.

Thanks for the memories, and good luck....

Very sorry to see Benji go, he will always be my fav player…

Now that we have some cap space and need some grunt up front I hear there is a good forward called FIfita at the sharks we can buy.

To be honest Marshall hasn't been performing well for a while - and the magic was being overshadowed by the mishaps.
Still , he will be remembered as one of the great attacking players and crowd pleasers of all time.
You don't get the accolade of being the best player in the world just for injecting the odd bit of flair here and there.
Maybe he just needs a change or a new challenge to re invigorate him.
Like most supporters I've put my head in my hands when he's passed the ball over the sideline again or tried something that had no chance of coming off.
I've also cheered , and been amazed , at some of the plays that could only be described as football genius.
What concerns me is the way some of the supporters who lauded him in the good times have now turned on him like jackals.
Seems everybody knows all the bad things about Benji without ever having spoken with him or been involved with the team.
Who will be the next player to be blamed for being conceited/controlling/petulant without any evidence?
Marshall has stated he will never take the field against the Tigers - that in itself shows he has a deep respect for the club that gave him an opportunity to become a star and the fans that supported not only him but the team he represented.
Too bad some on here can't show him the same level of respect.
Will we miss him?
Maybe at first…. but the team will always go on to find new champions.
Good luck in your future Benji, may it be both safe and successful.
Thanks for the memories!

Totally agree….. Tigerspirit
