BREAKING - MARSHALL LEAVING

Proud to say I have been a member of the Benji Marshall hate club since 2008\. It's a great day. Here's to the last of the deadwood from 2005 gone!!!! Here's to never having to watch the most overrated Rugby league player to ever lace on a boot. (maybe Ross Conlon was just as overrated?)

Here's to a bright and prosperous future for Wests Tigers!!!!!

3 cheers to you!!!
Do you want your medal now or are you still waiting to grow a chest to pin it on?
This is an embarrassing post shane, pull your head in.

Sad day if he does leave but he hasn't been granted a release yet, rumours that Kearney has told Benji he is not guaranteed a starting spot so there may be more bubbling along in the background than just not wanting to be coached by Potter.

Anyone wanting to hear an interesting opinion on Benji Marshall from a NZ legend should speak to NZ captain of the century Mark Graham

It's not good at all

Folks do not believe all you read.

Supposedly Benji is spewing about the Tigers not honoring a handshake Deal that would see him remain a Tiger till 2017\. Instead the Tigers agreed to upgrade his 2014-15 contract to a reportedly $750k per season. HELLO what's wrong with that Benji?…You will be the 2nd highest paid player in the club, not bad for someone who has been in poor form for the last 2 years; I'm sure if Benji played half decent in 2014 and 2015 the Tigers would've no doubt offered him a contract till 2017 and beyond...some may say its all about the handshake deal and its about principle...I say its all a smokescreen..Benji just didn't see himself fitting in to the new culture where he doesn't have the say he did under the Sheens era...its a real shame..but dont kid yourselves its not only about this handshake deal that no doubt we will hear so much of this in the media and from Benji....Thanks for the last 10 years Benji...this will be a win/win for both yourself and the Tigers...now lets go and get a top notch player and wrap up our yongsters....I wonder why he waited till 7pm last night to announce this?...

I think it is a combination of things Alexaki. For whatever reason, he has continued his poor 2012 form with an even poorer 2013 resulting in,

His demotion as NZ captain
His demotion as a starting 13 player at the Tiges
His possible exclusion in the NZ end of year WC team.

Maybe it is the money, maybe it is the change of culture….I dont fully think so though. Maybe it is just the fact that he isnt enjoying his RL any more.

Shame that so much emotion is bubbling to the surfaceat the expense of logic and reality.

Benji's body language has been negative for a long time, perhaps since the 2010 Final. His willingness to go into contact has diminished to the point where his total metres are often in single figures. For me that's the saddest part of his career progression. A player who once shredded defences with speed, the trademark step and blinding acceleration, reduced to a ball shuffler with an average kicking game. It's not how you want to remember the best running player the game has seen since Bob Fulton

I hope that a move to Rugby will revitalise him. I hope that he rediscovers some mojo in a fresh environment. I would love him to eventually retire having achieved some good things in another code

It's pointless laying blame, the time is right and it's a sensible decision

As I said earlier the end of the equation is that it will be better for both parties long term.

I would have liked Benji as a mentor for the remainder of his contract if he chose to stay.

From a outsider looking in it would seem a complex issue stretching from money, the handshake deal, his "brand" suffering as a result of poor form, him not reacting well to the new structure and accountability and he and his hatred of the fishbowl life of a Sydney NRL player.

I hope he just goes out guns blazing and does not get drawn into a one on one cry fest interview on TFS

I really hope Anasta plays 6 next year with Brooks at 7\. He was always one who could control a game and play percentages when it matters. If it was Brooks and Marshall out there next year Brooks would learn two things; how to catch a ball from Farah and how to pass to Marshall.

It's a blow to see he's going to leave, as he brought so much to rugby league.

I can understand how he feels if he was verbally offered a longer contract that is now no longer on the table. What kind of bone head CEO would to that in today's climate?

Let's hope everyone uses this to focus on a massive finish to the season.

I work with Ross Conlon's son , can't wait to show him this
Mate don't be such a hater wish him well and move on.

Do you work with Ben? A great kid! I played footy with him for a few years. And his old man was great!

Yeah I do, Ben is a top bloke and also loves the Tigers

Just on an aside, its hilarious to hear people talk about Benji's ego, or clashes with the coach, and the others 'facts' behind his departure as mentioned in the Telegraph.

You know, the same Telegraph that everyone on here criticises and calls garbage, the same Telegraph that people say never to believe when they come up with negative stories about the Tigers.

It seems some people are more than happy to believe what they read in the Tele when it suits their own narrow objectives.

Without an ounce of fact or inside knowledge re. Benji's reasons, we have pages and pages of insults and garbage written about a club legend (on a supposed fan's forum) all based on a few paragraphs from the newspaper, stories which have been denied and rubbished by Potter and Marshall no less.

Go figure hey.

This is a sad day for the Wests Tigers. Goodbye Benji Marshal and thankyou for providing me with some of the most amazing times as a supporter I could ever have asked for.

To the scum on this forum revelling and rejoicing in this decision…you disgust me.

Sorry missed Fulton but he did miss a year with WT in going to England. Certainly a WT workhorse and home grown Magpie junior.

Merrylands is a bit of a trek from Cambo the last time i made that journey

Thank you Marshall for all the joy you have given me over the years. 2005 premiership I will always treasure that year and your involvement.

When you are on you are a freak. Only Phil Blake compares to you.

True legend of our club.

Having said the above, it is now 2013 and your form has been crap, your looked disinterested, still can't tackle not really adding any value to your money contract and do not really fit into the new Wests Tigers under Potter.

Best for both parties to part company and keep your legacy in tack.

Wish you all the best champion and hope you can recapture your magic in union. At least you do not have to tackle in union.
