Smith is a highly qualified candidate to do this report having coached at numerous clubs with a unique understanding of the machinations of how a footy club works. He would know how to sort the chaff from the hay so to speak.

I just hope the report is used constructively not to push hidden agendas. This is a key test of leadership within the club. If we use the report to implement structures that will make us a long-term force it could be invaluable, if the report is used as a short-term fix we could well be forced into another period of mediocrity.

I agree that the report should have been done years ago. However, Sheens had way too much sway to allow an independent report into the club when he was coach and none of the CEOs had the balls to stand up to the guy. I'm sure Smith's report does not make pretty reading. Let's hope the club has the guts (and the funds) to implement the changes that are necessary to get this organisation on to a sustainable footing. It's not going to happen overnight, that's for sure. A new Board will be the first big step. Let's wait and see what the next 12 to 18 months bring. Should be interesting.

He is right though. Potter doesn't communicate well. Hasn't from day one. And it's not that it's wrong. It's that he doesn't do it the way it probably should be done. As much as people bag sheens. If a player did wrong he would explain it and discuss it. Potter doesn't. Doesn't go into depth with players and what needs to be done to improve.

I think it is important to remember that this is the same Brian Smith that would text Danny Buderus at 2am to advise him that the Knights had a gun hooker named Seu Seu breathing down his neck and he needed to stay on his game.

Who also got run out of town by no less than four clubs. Lucky for Brian no one was appointed to conduct a report on his time at each club. He was employed by clubs to shake things up and move dead wood so I don't understand why he is on a pedestal.

Why is it assumed that the content of his report is accurate? It is merely his opinion and may have some valid points but I would be concerned as to whether it is a report or a resume.

Smith was a coach, now well known for his ability to re-structure a club, yet not being able to convert the resulting changes himself. He is a solid candidate for the audit he was asked to undertake, after many years it actually seems his forte after all…

People are popping off as if he under-wrote Potter, who really knows... though the one thing most in the football world wouldnt listen to is his evaluation of a coach. It seems long ago Brian lost touch with player relations himself and instead embedded himself in the finer details of club structure and such. The man is obviously an asset in a specific field of football operations, and was employed by us in that very role.

People are always looking for a conspiracy theory...

I don't believe this comment at all. Do they have footballs and a park to train at ? Do they have some weights ?

To me that is more than enough.

If we have the right players and a fair run with injuries and we execute to a good game plan and we train hard and are committed we should do really well. I would be looking at all of these factors rather than blaming not having the latest rowing machine or stationary bicycle.

Our facilities are very ancient. It's great to have conducted the report but let's see what actions are taken as a consequence. Waste of time if changes are not made accordingly.

Rich clubs like Storm, Broncos, South Sydney etc. can afford to have the best training facilities. Those clubs also have highly regarded medical stuff on their pay roll, with all the modern scientific sports science equipment and knowledge at hand for their players. The difference between them and poorer clubs like us is they hire people that have excelled in their chosen professions not just scraped through. You get what you pay for and our club can not compete with them at this stage. But we are still doing better than some others.

You know what, we don't need someone to tell us our facilities are poor. But its a large leap to say we don't need someone to examine and review our club in order to maximise (at least in the short term) the facilities we have, to tell us which parts of our limited football budget are delivering and which parts are underperforming.

If people don't think sporting clubs, in particular our club, need some sort of external review to assess where we were and how to improve….they are kidding themselves.

You know what, we don't need someone to tell us our facilities are poor.
