Brooks and Tedesco combination set for greatness,

ANDREW Johns has called on the Wests Tigers to make sure Luke Brooks and James Tedesco play out their careers together, with the rugby league Immortal declaring “it is like watching Langer and Walters”.

Despite playing only four games together, the Brooks-Tedesco combination has everyone in the game talking them up as the game’s next superstar combination after another starring performance in Friday night’s upset win over premiership heavyweights South Sydney.

Tedesco is off contract at the end of the season and there is growing speculation that the Roosters are on the verge of announcing that they have won the race to sign the NRL’s most exciting young fullback.

The Bulldogs are also in the market for a top quality fullback and they have big money to spend.

Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer said yesterday his information was that Tedesco has not committed to a rival club.

Tedesco is managed by Sam Ayoub, who also looks after Wests Tigers skipper Robbie Farah.

“He is hot property, I get that,” Mayer told The Daily Telegraph.

“But these things don’t take three seconds to fix. Negotiations are ongoing so there is nothing to confirm one way or another.

“There is much speculation but at this stage we are not even close to announcing anything.”

But asked directly if he was certain that Tedesco hadn’t signed elsewhere, Mayer added: “I am not going to play it out in the press.

“We have had ongoing dialogue with his management and we are confident that the Wests Tigers are still in the game to retain James Tedesco.”

Matthew Johns yesterday likened the Brooks-Tedesco combination to “Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater” on Triple M — while Andrew Johns added they could make an impact at club and representative level like Allan Langer and Kevin Walters did for Brisbane and Queensland.

Andrew Johns gave Tedesco three Dally M votes for his man of the match effort on Friday night while Brooks finished with one vote after another dynamic game where both players were targeted heavily.

Johns said on Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show: “You know what, this is only the fourth game they have played together. It is like watching Langer and Walters together and some of the great combinations, they are on the same wave length, they know what each other is going to do.

Former Bulldogs and Stomr winger Steve Turner says the brave and brutal display of the Wests Tigers was simply too much for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in their aggressive Friday night encounter.

“I just hope they play their whole career out together.

“I’d love to see them playing, without getting ahead of themselves, at this level, club level, and maybe representative level together.

“They have got to stay together and I hope the Wests Tigers do that.

“I hope their fans get on board and buys memberships that brings money into the club.”

Tim Gilbert said yesterday on the sunday footy show he spoke to our club and said to him were very confident were going to keep him then James Hooper said we are fast tracking our negotiation to keep him. The race is only with the Tigers and Roosters but im very confident will keep him.

I dont like these patchwork stories, all they've done is recycle some things that were said on tv shows. Whats more they are selective in what they recycle, as Tigersrule4life suggested above there were some other very positive suggestions during the show that hose down this story.

Have you been reading the Souths Forum?

this is only the fourth game they have played together.

Sure, 4th NRL game, but how many U20s or other games have they played together???

I know he can't give too much away, but the fact that Mayer says ''the club is still in the running'' doesn't fill me with confidence. Its almost he's conceding that he's likely to leave, but Wests are still clinging to hope.

Kevin Walters and Allan Langer played many game together at representative level during schoolboys and then the forgotten player in all of this was Kerrod Walters

They had been playing together for years at Booval Swifts at club level and also rugby at Ipswich Grammar School while Allan was a Norths Tigers in Ipswich

They do have some similarities to a degree , but anyone who thinks these three came to grade and killed it with no understanding of each other is kidding themselves

As Johns said yesterday, teams will see these few pet play they have and start looking for them

They need one or two more in the artillery to take some pressure off their pet plays

They might still be effective against the Warriors but Manly will be looking for them in a few weeks time

I would say from what I have seen Brooks and Teddy are well ahead of Alf and Kevie at this stage , it took Kevie years to be confident in the 6 jersey

Yeah I hate to say it but reading the Mayer quotes there was the first time I really thought "he's gone".

Zorba said on BSB yesterday(Sunday) that there is a good chance of him joining the Roosters as Minnie has been working on him since their Italian WC camp.

And you don't think his WT team-mates aren't working on him every day at training???

There's a story on the League Live app about Teddy not going to the Roosters and claiming Rothfield has it all wrong. Sorry I couldn't link it.

Is this it mate?

Why James Tedesco won’t be going to the Roosters

The Daily Telegraph‘s Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield is described by his editors as “League’s most feared critic”, but he is way off the mark with his comment about Wests Tigers young gun James Tedesco becoming a Rooster.

Rothfield went public with his top 50 NRL players in his regular column “The Buzz” on March 4 this year, raising a few eyebrows when he did not have Johnathan Thurston in his top two and left Daly Cherry-Evans out of his top five.

Buzz is entitled to his opinion, but he has got this one wrong in this week’s Sunday Telegraph: “We mentioned last week how the Bulldogs salary cap miracle workers were chasing Wests Tigers star fullback James Tedesco. The Roosters have beaten them to the punch and will announce his signing in the very near future.”

The Roosters have not even considered having a crack at the brilliant Tedesco. When they have a star like Roger Tuivasa-Sheck ‘in the wings’, waiting to take over from club legend Anthony Minichiello, why would they?

Tedesco is only 21, and his dazzling pace of the mark and the ability to sniff a try is reminiscent of Billy Slater. He still has some work to do on his defence and ball-playing skills, but the immense progress he has made this year means his next contract should earn him $500k-plus per season.

The Tigers won the battle with the Dragons to sign ‘Teddy’ in 2011, and let’s hope they can keep him. His combination with young Luke Brooks could end up being as revered as Slater and Cronk’s in Melbourne.

If you are a Rooster fan you will be wondering when Tuivasa-Sheck, 20, is going to start at fullback. Fans have seen him in small stints at fullback this season, with Minichiello being shunted to the wing. It was this move that actually won the game for the Roosters against the Broncos on Friday night.

Mini turns 34 in May and has had shockers in Rounds 1 and 3, while the young and exciting Tuivasa-Sheck continues to impress.

The Roosters got out of jail against the unlucky Broncos, but how much longer can they continue gamble on the old for the new?

Roosters coach Trent Robinson is an incredibly deep thinker and he will not be swayed by media comments. He won last year’s Premiership in his rookie year because of his gut feel for his players and the game.

He based his entire game plan on defence and while Mini has not been strong in that area this season, he clearly believes that Tuivasa-Sheck has some more learning to do from his on-field mentor.

What we do know is that when Robinson does finally release the shackles on Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and he is handed the famous Roosters No. 1 jersey, his match-up with James Tedesco will be something to see.

The article makes a good argument for why the Roosters aren't interested, but its not saying he's going to re-sign either.

Clubs are trying to get other clubs to pay overs for players so they can target other players that might come on to the market

Adam Blair is the perfect example , the Roosters kept chasing Blair and forcing his price up as he was the best forward on the market left

So who signed the next big thing that came on the market , the Roosters with SBW

Possibly the Roosters will drive the price up on teddy as they might want to target another Tigers player who will fill a void for another player they will lose

So who will the Roosters lose in the coming season Mini and SBW

RTS will take Mini's spot , so that leaves a backrower and a winger

And who will be off contract for the Tigers in the next 2 seasons ??

Nofoaluma , Sironen and BMM

Will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months Hopefully we keep the ones we want
