He just needs another few (8) years of development.

And some more experimentation with different halves partners! The right one is out there somewhere and west’s tigers will not ever give up,till we find the right halves partner for Brooks to fire.. No matter how long it holds the club back, the partner is out there!

You reckon. I think if the club finds a better option they will use them. I think signing Hastings is a clear sign of that.

If people were basing his kicking game on Saturday ...I've never seen smaller in goals ...reason both sides stayed away from the short kicks

We should have kept Jacob Miller.

This tops your “Billy Walters has potential” comment.

Was kidding mate.
Having said that, at least he would have been gone by now…

Add to this the coaching over the last two and bit years, did JT do anything to improve his game, I’d say no.
Will Luke turn his career round and show the promise he did as a junior, i hope so. **Lets give a decent coach a chance to work with him (during the off season), a coach that we know can teach a halfback how to play, add to that an improved forward pack, a halves partner that can take some pressure off him and we’ll see what happens.** I can already see that his defence has improved along with his running game.
In regards to all the negative comments about him, why is it always the same posters? unhappy life?

What happened is that coach mentioned above had that off season with Brooks in the squad and we had Matulino giving our middle authority in 2018, resulting in the halfback of the year performances, including a first rate short kicking game.

2019 was pretty good as well, at least until Ben limped off Parramatta Stadium that night as Luke’s successful game was slowly being changed under Maguire.

He then missed the opening of 2020 through injury, followed by Covid plus the advent of Rugba League and whilst he wasn't great in that setting, has carried out **his role** reasonably consistently this season.

Ahh ... so now it's Matalino's fault for getting hurt, Covid and the new rules (which should actually help fast halfbacks).
It's never Brooksy's fault.

Such a narrow take on it and if you think that each of the above had little effect on the side or want to write that there was blame on Matulino, that is your prerogative.

Would be good though if you could explain your thoughts as to why there have been changes to the games of the collective and the individuals within over that period along with the results.

Oh thank God Demps! I have been waiting for an opportunity to discuss whether Brooks was any good and at a loss where to vent my feelings.

Haha....
I just stumbled upon this.

Compare the comments from then to now
No improvement one could say.

It’s like being in a time warp…..?

It's astounding,
time is fleeting,
madness takes its toll,
but listen closely,
not for very much longer,
I've got to keep control

Time Warp is one of my favourite pinball machines.
One of only 2 ever made with banana flippers. The other one is Disco Fever.

Time to Bump this thread ..
Thoughts ??

Thought remains...

Got outplayed by a full blown rookie.

Brooks has failed us.
The club has not failed Brooks.

Moved mountains for him to make him be able to succeed and he has failed multiple times.

Time to walk away.

No hate to the guy, he seems alright.
Just not the guy for us.

He seems like a nice enough fella, but the club needs to move on to progress
Every time I think he's progressing he slips back to square one.
Gee I wish that game against Saints all those years ago never happened.

He needs to leave the sake of himself and for us. I honestly think a new club for him would do the world of good for him on a professional level and personal. He is too comfortable here. we are too stale with him. not a good combo.

His supporters always fall back on his defence, basing it on the odd decent tackle on a bigger guy.
His tackle stats, even compared to other halfbacks don't support the hype.
Against Penrith he missed 8 tackles while the rest of the team tackled ok.
To top it off did nothing in attack.
Compare newbie Simpkin missing 5 tackles while having Kikau charging straight at him all day.
Have to go down as the worst captain in our history.

Ignoring the pettiness of having a dig at him as a stand in captain, the worst captan ever begins and ends at Mr. It is what it is. For a dozen different reasons.

I have been a supporter of Brooks most of the time, however I think it has become clear that he is faltering under too much pressure. The lack of support in the spine, go forward from the pack, alternate kickers and other ball players, the lack of leadership, etc has piled pressure in him, added to that there’s all the media and fan speculation singling him out for negative attention. It’s been too much for him to handle. His game has become robotic, there is no eyes up footy from him at all- he has totally list his running game because he is too worried about being on the next mark for the next play as receiver. With Benji in the side he was freed up to play without all this responsibility and he can’t handle it at this point. I believe he is trying really hard but fighting an uphill battle and it’s taking it’s toll on him. Mentally and physically.
He needs time to re-find his game in a team where he is not under this amount of scrutiny and pressure. Maybe that is elsewhere or even in reggies for a while (if there were games). Problem at the Tigers is there is noone better than him at the moment. The really sad part for him is that he bleeds orange black and white and he must be questioning that in his own mind now.

Brooks can be a quality player, but he's unfortunately become a victim of being a Wests Tiger for too long. He's stale. Would be the best for both parties if he started fresh somewhere else.

I don't think I'm even content with Brooks at 6. I don't see him as a 6 the more I think about it. Lacks spark and creativity to be a 6 but who else do we have.

When Benji came back and Brooks regressed many said it was because Benji was too dominant and demanded the ball more. Many said this hindered Brooks' game. Benji was moved on and Brooks was given a license to lead the team around the park, when that for the most part failed many said he needed help in the halves to take the pressure off him.

AD slots in at 6 early in the season and for the most part plays well however Brooks again goes missing and many claim he needs the ball more and AD was taking too much of the dominant role away from him.

I'm in no way a Brooks hater, hell I'd love for him to prove all his doubters wrong however it seems he just doesn't have the ability to produce consistently enough to be the 7 we need him to be.

Harsh reality.

But not 2018 apparently.
