Can still get the spoon

If you’re gonna use analogies like that, what about us in 05. At the time it felt like the beginning of a dynasty. We weren’t even consistent for the whole season. The first half was not on par with every other season. We just happened to catch absolute fire on the run home and no one could touch us.
Same as Brisbane last season. Interestingly, neither our 2005 or Brisbane’s 2025 teams could back up to even just make the finals again.

Hate to say it as it gives me nightmares as a 8 year old but the 89 raiders peaked perfect too

Don’t forget ok 05 we had 2 losses and looked like “ tigers are back” again then somehow a switch clicked again against cowgirls

those damn 89 raiders, like 05 tigers and 25 broncos struck up the ba kside with a rainbow

Thank god for Perth. They are going to save us the formal embarrassment. A few injuries and they could have 80+ put on them next year.

I see a world where Mal steps down relatively quickly as head coach.
We will see the same was said about dolphins and storm

It’s only the Gold Coast that keep failing as bad as us after 4 attempts now since 88

Very different scenarios. The dolphins were an existing QRL club playing in the top league. They had a junior system already in place. The Perth bears have nothing. Their feeder team players are going to have to travel between Sydney and Perth. Theres a good chance midway into the season it gets embarrassing

I can’t believe that any Wests Tigers supporter would even entertain this thought. We can embarrass ourselves no matter what’s going on in the comp. A team lost 15 games in a row and another team got flogged by 82 points this season, but we’re still the embarrassment of the NRL.

Under more stable ownership of the Holman Barnes Group this year and a new chief executive in Shaun Mielekamp, however, there is now a focus on building the club’s foundations.”

Sorry????

lol ..never heard of Jack Snape and after that comment I never want to again…

Guardian should stick to left politics …not NRL….

It really doesn't matter who wrote this article. What matters are the numbers.

Unfortunately, this number tells the true story.

If they finish with the least amount of wins during the season, well yeah they do deserve the spoon. That's how it works.
I get your point but by deserve I was referring more to their attitude than results.
Dragons have tried their guts out every week. You could count on one hand the times they've dropped their head and stopped competing and in each of those occasions they competed for the first 50-60 minutes of those games.
Other teams, us, Titans, Broncos, Eels, even cowboys at times have not shown up even intending to compete but simply just going through the motions.
I know which is sides are easier to criticise and which are easier to support.

Have Dragons been the worst performed team for the duration of the season, no doubt. And they in all likelihood will get the spoon as a result.
Have they performed with the attitude of a team that 'deserves' the spoon. In my opinion, No. There's four others I would have well ahead of them.

Precisely, give me a team that fights to the end each week over a team that don't give a rat's for much of the time. Both of those teams can run last but only 1 of them is worth any respect.
