THE Wests Tigers might be in turmoil at NRL level but they don't need to worry about the talent coming through from Toyota Cup after annihilating Canberra 46-6 in the under 20s grand final.
Fijian schoolboy sprint star Marika Koroibete showed again what an enormous talent he is with two tries that included a sensational 65 metre individual effort, while five-eighth Matt Mulcahy also finished with a double and the Jack Gibson Medal as man-of-the-match.
It was a wonderful performance from the young five-eighth who hails from the same town as skipper Jacob Miller - Mullumbimby in northern NSW.
But after the game, coach Todd Payten revealed Mulcahy was lucky to make it to grand final day because he was almost cut before the season even got started.
“I was going to cut him,” Payten explained. “He was very relaxed and I took it the wrong way, I thought he didn’t give a shit.
“He had to bide his time. He played some good games in the development squad and took his opportunity when it came and he works well with Jacob Miller who is also from Mullumbimby.”

As a player, Payten had a long and distinguished NRL career which included winning a premiership with the Tigers in 2005.
Today, he celebrated his first premiership as a coach in his first year in charge of the young Tigers.
Asked if he could compare the two premierships, Payten said: “It’s more fun as a player. I think you dream of doing that your whole life.
“Don’t get me wrong, this is enjoyable. Again, I must (credit) the boys, it’s all because of those guys.”
All up, the Tigers raced in eight tries to one, but their defence was just as impressive.
Asked how many of the squad had potential to play NRL, Payten added: “I’ve always said that our group has probably got a higher number than usual.
“I reckon 10 or 11 have got the potential to make first grade, we’ve got four or five certainties.”
The Raiders opened the scoring with a try to halfback Mitchell Cornish in just the 8th minute, but the Tigers hit back with three tries before halftime. Then in the second half, they never looked back.
Koroibete crossed for his first just before the break but his second was an amazing show of skill, power and blinding speed.
“He is a man amongst boys,” Payten laughed at the young winger who has already starred in the NRL.
“He is terrific to have in the side. He gives the guys a whole heap of confidence. He is very infectious amongst the group.”
