Mulcahy and Miller were absolutely class but the forwards were just dominant. First graders all of them. Fotuaika, Sue, Santi, Brown, Inosessio and Passi are incredibly good. Rowe and Saunders was incredibly good too. Now we watch as our twenties side gets picked to pieces by rival clubs lol.

Promote Miller, Saunders, Passi, Fotuaika, Sue, Santi, Inno and Brown to first grade immediately.

How good is this  NYC Champions 2012
Great effort by everyone, hope their attitude is infectious and spreads to FG.
Mulcahy and Marika won us the game, it is so simple, just pass it to Marika and he will win us the game
Forwards were excellent, Sue, Fatuika and Santi were outstanding.
Rowe support play and his fearless diving, wow, why oh why we did not play this guy when Tedesco got injured :frowning:
Mulcahy, his acceleration fooled defence again, where has he been?

Go Tigers

Those forwards are incredibly talented. Like I said in another thread, a new coach would be rubbing his hands together getting hold of these guys.

huge congrats to the boys on a fantastic win! plenty of talent on display for tigers today and first gde for a few of these guys is just around the corner. gen next is here and waiting :sign:

Credit must go to Andrew Webster who was looking after the WT 19's squad after the SG Ball finished. Mulcahy told him he was a Fullback/Winger, Andrew told him he that he should be playing 5/8 and played him there for a couple of the 19's games and he killed it. Probably wouldn't have got the call up to 20's if not for this change, not bad going from on the outer to Man of the match in the NYC Grand Final in 4 games.

I say now I was wrong Re the appointment of Payten as coach ,he has shown great maturity in his efforts this year especially with the tough decisions he had to make late in the season.Enjoy the moment and hope this is the start to many more premierships in the future .All the players well done and you are the pride of the Weststigers congratulations!

Wests Tigers win NYC Premiership

Wests Tigers are the 2012 NYC Premiers!

The Todd Payten coached side crushed Canberra Raiders 46-6 in the U20s Grand Final at ANZ Stadium today to give Wests Tigers their first NYC premiership. Wests Tigers are also the first Sydney club to win the NYC since its inception in 2008.

The victory was Payten’s first premiership success as a Coach in his first year of coaching.
Having finished the regular season in fourth place, Wests Tigers beat minor premiers the Bulldogs and then the sixth placed Sydney Roosters to set up a Grand Final clash with the third placed Canberra Raiders. Wests Tigers had beaten Canberra twice during the season.

Canberra opened the scoring in the 7th minute when half-back and captain Mitchell Cornish scored under the posts after being put into a hole by five-eighth Anthony Milford. Milford converted the try for a 6-0 lead.

Wests Tigers got on the board in the 11th minute when half-back Jacob Miller and five-eighth Matt Mulcahy combined to deliver an inside pass for full-back Kurtis Rowe to score next to the posts. Captain Miller converted the try for a 6-all scoreline.

A crossfield kick by Mulcahy saw the ball bounce well for winger David Nofoaluma to score in the 14th minute. Miller converted the try to give Wests Tigers a 12-6 lead.

The video referees were called on in the 27th minute to determine whether Canberra hooker Ben Picker had scored from dummy half despite the efforts of centre Brodie Monroe to hold him up. It was ruled no try.

Miller failed to convert a penalty goal from close range in the 30th minute that would have given Wests Tigers a handy 14-6 lead after Canberra were penalised for obstruction from a kick. The ball hit the uprights and bounced into the field of play for Wests Tigers to regather. The Raiders dug deep in defence to hold Wests Tigers out.

Wests Tigers extended their lead to 16-6 in the 39th minute when the ball was spread right through Mulcahy and forward Brenden Santi for centre Asipeli Fine to turn the ball back inside for winger Marika Koroibete to score with 20 seconds remaining. Miller nailed the conversion from out wide to give Wests Tigers an 18-6 lead at half-time.

2nd Half
A superb solo try to Mulcahy saw the five-eighth slice through the defence to score out wide for a 22-6 lead after 50 minutes. Miller failed to convert the try.

Fijian flyer Koroibete scored his second try of the game when he brushed off three defenders to produce his electrifying speed to race 60 metres to score behind the posts. Miller converted the try to give Wests Tigers a 28-6 lead after 58 minutes.

Prop Mosese Fotuaika – the Wests Tigers Players’ Player of the Year – all but sealed victory in the 62nd minute when he used his brute strength from 10 metres out to crash over next to the posts. Miller converted the try for a 34-6 scoreline.

Mulcahy grabbed his second try when he ran off an inside pass from utility Sitaleki Akauola to score next to the posts in the 67th minute. Miller converted the try for a 40-6 lead.

Rowe scored his second try when Akauola offloaded to the full-back to send him over out wide for a 44-6 lead. Miller's conversion attempt bounced over off the upright for a 46-6 lead.

THE Wests Tigers might be in turmoil at NRL level but they don't need to worry about the talent coming through from Toyota Cup after annihilating Canberra 46-6 in the under 20s grand final.

Fijian schoolboy sprint star Marika Koroibete showed again what an enormous talent he is with two tries that included a sensational 65 metre individual effort, while five-eighth Matt Mulcahy also finished with a double and the Jack Gibson Medal as man-of-the-match.

It was a wonderful performance from the young five-eighth who hails from the same town as skipper Jacob Miller - Mullumbimby in northern NSW.

But after the game, coach Todd Payten revealed Mulcahy was lucky to make it to grand final day because he was almost cut before the season even got started.

“I was going to cut him,” Payten explained. “He was very relaxed and I took it the wrong way, I thought he didn’t give a shit.

“He had to bide his time. He played some good games in the development squad and took his opportunity when it came and he works well with Jacob Miller who is also from Mullumbimby.”

As a player, Payten had a long and distinguished NRL career which included winning a premiership with the Tigers in 2005.

Today, he celebrated his first premiership as a coach in his first year in charge of the young Tigers.

Asked if he could compare the two premierships, Payten said: “It’s more fun as a player. I think you dream of doing that your whole life.

“Don’t get me wrong, this is enjoyable. Again, I must (credit) the boys, it’s all because of those guys.”

All up, the Tigers raced in eight tries to one, but their defence was just as impressive.

Asked how many of the squad had potential to play NRL, Payten added: “I’ve always said that our group has probably got a higher number than usual.

“I reckon 10 or 11 have got the potential to make first grade, we’ve got four or five certainties.”

The Raiders opened the scoring with a try to halfback Mitchell Cornish in just the 8th minute, but the Tigers hit back with three tries before halftime. Then in the second half, they never looked back.

Koroibete crossed for his first just before the break but his second was an amazing show of skill, power and blinding speed.

“He is a man amongst boys,” Payten laughed at the young winger who has already starred in the NRL.

“He is terrific to have in the side. He gives the guys a whole heap of confidence. He is very infectious amongst the group.”

I have strong doubts as to whether Matt can play first grade as a six. His only real quality is pace. His passing game is not strong. That being said a kid with not much else but pace and a support game is playing 6 in the NRL grand final for the Dogs.

Brilliant performance to top a sensational season… Well done to all involved.
Tremendous talent flowing through ...

Now we must ward off the vultures and secure the cream of this rich crop.

Great day to be a Wests Tigers man (or woman) (or kid).

Because he can be extremely weak defensively. With pinpoint bombs you get in first grade he would have been slaughtered. Let him develop properly.

If the seniors had just shown some of the attitude and spirit displayed by the NYC boys today - great game and congratulations to you all!

How good it was to see the season end with some joy…behind every cloud there always is a silver lining

Congratulations to all of the boys it was a mighty effort. Our forwards worked as a pack outplaying much bigger opposition. They turned a good raiders side into a disorganized rabble by the end with great scrambling defence.Todd has done a brilliant effort in his first year as coach in 3-4 years when he is ready for a first grade job i hope it is with us.

Braith Anasta interviewed Jacob Miller after the game and instead of saying "See you at Preseason training mate" Anasta wished him well at Hull next year! Miller looked at him and said "Not sure about that"!

I believe Miller made a similar comment recently on twitter to Kyle Lovett. Suffice to say it was a joke given the player movements at WT of late.

That was a top performance. Some very impressive players there. I liked what I saw of the prop Sue. I think he'll be playing plenty of first grade.
