Nope... Can't complain at all. The effort was as good as any. With the amount of injuries and the crappy calls Sutton was giving us, couldn't do much else.

But seriously... how terrible is Sutton? An 8-2 penalty count, 3-1 set restarts all in favour of the Eels. Missed the Mahoney knock on in the build up to Sivo's second try. Almost gave them a try for Fergo's effort when he didn't see the knock on. Called play on after Waqa Blake dropped the ball after the tackle was completed. So apparently a player can be tackled on the floor for 3 seconds, drop the ball backwards, and have that counted as an offload. Maybe Madge can turn that into a gameplan. Not to mention giving us our only set restart and trying to even up the calls in the last 10 mins like Sutton always does. He is a fool and the NRL's referees are not up to scratch

No mate Tedesco is the best fullback and that’s why he put his body on the line not try and turn his back and give him a shoulder change that’s what It’s based on

He was obviously hoping to hit him hard enough to knock him off stride and be able to push him out before he could put the ball down.

A normal tackle around the legs would not have stopped him. neither would trying to tackle him up top to wrap the ball up, he is too strong.

So you tell me how he was going to stop him a few metres from the line without a Mack truck?

Maybe as has been mentioned in here, we swap around a bit during attacking sets between MBye ad Doueihi.

I'm not saying for next week, but for next year, during the off season spend a lot of time on our combinations and swapping those two around mid set to keep the defence on their toes. It might make it hard for the defence to mark their man when who they are marking keeps changing.

And then you can get those two to change positions even when they aren't directly attacking, just to mess with the defence. I don't know, I'm not a coach.

Doueihi would be fine at fullback if somebody on staff taught him positional play or to follow the ball. He is often caught standing still when the ball goes out the other side and he does not have the speed to play catch up.

Well actually it's not. A defender can avoid a shoulder charge by using his arms in an attempt to tackle, and physically this means collision power is transferred via the whole upper torso in a hit and drive movement, rather than a single deflection at one point (shoulder). Same as if I punched you in the chest or wrapped my arm around your chest, you know which one is more dangerous.

There is no way for an attacking player to consistently avoid shoulder collisions, literally impossible. But defenders can avoid shoulder charges.

What is the NRL supposed to do anyway? Medical consensus now is that shoulder charges are dangerous due to risk of concussion injury short- and long-term. They would be legally negligent not to act on that medical advice, no different to spear tackles, crusher tackles, chicken wings etc.

Personally I don’t know why the club hasn’t gone and found and signed the fullback version of Simpkins.
It’s been 4 years now since Tedesco left.
Since Robbie left we’ve had halatal, liddle, mcwrillick, little utility fella from nz, and Robbie and finally sourced the future best in Simpkins whilst currently playing the next best in Grant.
Where as we have had;
Lolohia, Mbye, Doueihi all fillers and have smith as the planned future fullback.
Poor.

I don’t think Madge sees Doueihi as a filler. He’ll be there a while I reckon. Unfortunately our past 8+ years has been pretty poor recruitment wise. Madge has just signed a young fella who plays fullback so maybe he could get the spot eventually

I don't really see any down side other than height. Speed out of the back field such as he has would make for some exciting ball returns. He could float around the middle like Slater did and with our new group of forwards that can obviously make meters better than any pack we've had in recent memory, he'd be a weapon hanging off the likes of Packer, Musgrove and Ad if he was at 6. Amd, he's definitely a better tackler than AD imo. Safe under kicks, ability to pass.....Whats to lose?
