Chammas Article

I think we’re past those times. We have an independent board, proper governance, proper leadership. Progress is slow to start but that’s because success is compounding not linear. We might not be there yet but there will be a time when we will embrace both sides of our heritage without fear or favour.
We don't need to spend resources thinking about clubs that don't exist. You obviously have a positive view of human beings....some may say naive. This has happened before and it's only negative bar the small buzz on game day for rusted on Balmain or Wests fans.

Dude...25 years...the kids born in 2000 are going to be having kids soon if they haven't started already. Even kids who were 5 or 6 probably don't have any connection with either club. It's time to let it go. The only reason people want it is to satisfy some nostalgic personal reason. It is not for the good of the club. My cousin is 30...hasn't got a clue about Balmain or Wests. Really...no clue...he'd be confused as to why we trotted out those jerseys. As older fans, we should leave the club in a better state than what we had it and fixing this mess needs to be at the top of the agenda.

I'm with @innsaneink on this one.

The more we bring the Balmain and Wests jerseys out the more it brings out the divided.

Those clubs are dead in the NRL. No need to perpetuate it other than the two old logos in a very small capacity on the jersey if they absolutely must.

This is how 100 year plus wars keep going. The parents keep passing down the old stories and the allegiances remain. I'd like the next gen coming through to have zero thought about either club to be fair.

If either side wanted a stand alone or recognition in the NRL, they would have done what Souths and even Norths did and fought for their club. Neither of ours did and now we have Wests Tigers. That's our team whether we like it or not. No need to keep dredging up the past. Frankly it wasn't something to celebrate at the time and it wasn't some big coming together. It was the day both supporters list their club. Fans were devastated.
I respectfully disagree.

We’ve tried to suffocate and bury the identities of our two beloved clubs from the league public for ages and all it’s brought us is misery.

Both were around long before the NRL.

I’ve got two kids, very different, it’s not hard to share the love and treat them equally.

I saw a guy wearing the Victa uniform at LO last year. Very cool I thought, good to see him.

Ok. I respectfully disagree too.

You're bias comes from your previous alignment with one club or the other. It is only self serving. Other kids would have looked at the Victa jersey and thought...what is that?

All good mate, I respect your opinion and agree with them often. You have a long history on here. I’m still trying to understand the perspectives of some of the posters and am open to ideas. I think our future is bright as long as we have good leadership.

Perhaps.

But I started this journey supporting the Wests Tigers. I didn’t support Balmain or the Magpies, beforehand.

But as a Wests Tigers fan, for me, there’s a solemn obligation to revere and look up to both clubs. And I try to do so equally.

Mum was a Tiger, so there could be some subconscious bias there.

But what does 'identity' mean in real terms?? I feel like identity in our case largely consists of people in Victa and Phillips retro jerseys. Is that all there is?

What's the opposite of what you're describing??

Mind numbingly idiotic
None of this generation and future generations give a shit about the past
"Kids...were going to visit grandma and pop"

The fossils can have their VHS tapes and 40 year old Big League mags
Lol, you’re no futurist, you’re still fighting past wars.

I’m not sure I understand your question?

'We’ve tried to suffocate and bury the identities of our two beloved clubs'...

What would be the opposite to what suffocating and burying?? What could we realistically be doing as a club that we are not doing now?

Heritage club jerseys at the grounds mentioned as a start.

The magpie should have a presence with pussy on the logo.

And the website, digital presence of the magpie on each page without fail.

A billion things we could do.

"this generation and future generations"
OK, but you’re making specific claims about what future generations will care about.

Historically, tribes, societies, civilisations succeed based on their aptitude to survive and an understanding of the past. Our club is no different.
