Charlie Staines #262

350k isn't much for a top 30 spot these days and is about what you'd expect for a depth player who has played a decent number of nrl games to be paid imo
You want your depth wingers to be promising kids on minimum wage ideally.

Well.. they signed Skelton for a lot less… and we are expecting him to be picked in the Top 17 if fit

I think with how common missed games from head contact are now that calculation has changed a bit and most teams would like at least 1 experienced solid outside back in their squad as a backup since your more likely to be missing multipleplayers.

Ideally we shouldn't have too many of that type of player and I'm definitely in favour of trimming the fat and getting rid of some players like toa and naden but Staines isn't one I think we should be looking to offload especially as his wage isn't anything outrageous

Staines needs a big off-season.

I’m conscious last off-season he came off a serious injury and maybe that’s why he lacks strength this year.

At his current output, you’d be better off paying him out.

I like Charlie... cops a lot of flack on here but as someone who attends a lot of games he's one of the few players that actually has a dig each & every single week. He's not a winger that we should rely on for yardage carries but he's a great finisher & surprisingly he does a lot of talk out there rallying the troops. If you can upgrade on him you would but I'd love for him to hang around as solid depth.
Just get him a tackling bag for Christmas and some trust in his centre. He always comes in off the wing opening the door. Other then that yeah he's good

Yes, but we need to CULL this kind of player.

350k depth winger means we are 150k less for our premium players. i.e. fringe grade top 17 instead of first grade top 17.

Staines is worth 350k but if he isn't taking the field for us. Punt him. Latu can play wing if needed.

Can someone update what on earth is going on with Charlie Staines?

Naden has really stepped up as Ex-Penrith
Staines seems nowhere near first grade.

Are we trying to move him on and giving him no gametime?
What's the go? Were giving Toa a shot but not Staines?

Naden has really stepped up? Sorry how has he done that exactly haha

Crossed the line before getting injured. Basically gone up a level.

Pushed for selection, unlike Staines who hasn't done a thing and is begging for a bench spot.

What's up?

So ignoring the previous 3 years of his brain explosions & incompetence because he scored a try in a trial he stepped up 😂

Both Naden and Staines are fringe first graders...for different reasons.
Naden has more than adequate talent,ut at 31 has been thru a lot of stellar coaching sytems and still isnt there. He knows hes playing for his future this year...will wait see if the discipline and smarts follow.
Staines had an horrific injury to overcome, and is doing his best. But atm he just isnt big enuff for NRL,and he needs to bulk up a bit like JAC did without losing his pace..which JAC did
This season is critical for both

You set the lowest bar of all time to say Naden has "stepped up",scoring a try in a trial is no indication of an improvement in his terrible attitude.

Naden turned 29 last december , where did you get 31 from?
im with you on waiting to see how he comes back from this injury.
As for Staines if he gets good ball from his inside men (whoever that may be at the time)
there is nothing stopping him. He can finish and finish well.
