Chis Lawrence

He is going well. 8 game for 100m +, defending well, tries in a couple of games lately. Can't ask for much more than that from a centre.

He is currently playing as a backrower, playing at centre. We have plenty of hard running back-rowers that can make **as many if not more metres** in attack and **hit just as hard if not harder**, in defence.

i disagree. he hits just as hard as anyone and makes as many metres as anyone bar woods.

plus he has the experience of playing in the centre for 6-7 years.

I'm on the 'Thumbs Up' side.. I haven't always supported him, as a matter of fact I think he hasn't been the same player for a number of years and I actually think a lot of it has to do with the amount of muscle he has put on over the last 4 or 5 years. If you look back at him when he had speed and footwork he was much, much lighter - what does he weigh now, 105kgs maybe??

I believe he'd regain some speed if he trimmed down a little of the bulk - he's still mid twenties isn't he? He is a product of too much gym and mass. I realise his injuries have played a part but surely he is improving in that regard. I also agree that he is adapting his game and perhaps needs to go down the Mick Cronin road using power and strength to stand and offload as well as run into the gaps with good angles and lines. He does need to watch his decison making in defence - sometimes he is very easily beaten.

On the issue of speed in our backs - I thought we looked horribly slow all over the park against Newcastle. Maybe the ground was heavy but they had speed on us everywhere. What has happened to Nofa?? He looks terribly slow all of a sudden. We desperately need to get some speed into our team - maybe Marika is the answer.

Finally on Chris, I actually think he is contributing more in recent months, and for the sake of loyalty for one of our true and faithful Tiger juniors I am willing to stand up for him any day. I would like to see him play on for the Tiges until he eventually retires!!

Lawrence is a year younger than Anthony Don guys and has played nearly 150 first grade games. He has also outplayed Tim Simona in every game this year so far. If you want to death ride one of our centres, he shouldn't be the one.

Interesting people say too much muscle slows peeps down..but those 100 metre runners look pretty muscley to me.

Different type of muscle for different sports. Sprinters generally have a higher percentage of fast-twitch muscles compared to slow-twitch muscles.

Fast-twitch = quick bursts of speed/strength

Slow-twitch = extended periods of exercise such as marathons

Simona hasnt seen the ball. Lawrence has and likes to run into touch with it on the second tackle.

The other issue people haven't taken into account is attack wise we basically have no right side

Find a way to fix our right side attack and it will give Lawrence more room to move

Anyone thinking we will ever see the pre hip injury Chris Lawrence is going to be disappointed , especially with all the hammy problems attached to his injury

While those sprinters do look bulky i think you will find they only way around 80kg

Lawrence has been on of our best over the past few weeks. We also have no other centres in the club capable of filling his spot. I can't believe this discussion about moving him is still going on.

Too many people here have been brain washed into the Tim Sheens way of thinking. Lets turn all our centres into back rowers, back rowers into props and hookers into halfbacks.

Some players go looking for the ball when it doesn't come.

As Bones said, take Lawrence from the centres and you're left with … Lulia? Regardless of how you might think Chris is or isn't performing, (I actually think he is going O.K), he's better than our next best option. And I'm not sure he'd be better as a back rower than our current back rowers. So, do you want to stick him in reggies because he's not as good as he used to be? Sheesh!

Maybe we just need to swap Lawrence and Simona. The right edge has been starved of the ball all season, so seeing 80% of our attack is run down the left edge maybe it makes sense to move our best centre to the side of the field where he'll get the most ball!

Lawrence can do what he's doing now from anywhere on the field. If he gets starved of the ball on the right it won't impact our attack at all, and think Simona on the left might really be able to make some line breaks!!

And no, if Chris was dropped i'd want to see Fine get a go rather than Lulia who appears to be a complete waste of space. Or Nofo to centres and Koro to the wing. Koro would be starting for almost very other club in the NRL by now. His continued exclusion is baffling.

This is true.

I will never forget Simon Mannering outpacing Lawrence to a kick and chase to score a try last year. It was a far cry form the Chris Lawrence who streaked around the outside of Billy Slater and score an epic try at Leichhardt a couple of years before to win a game for our boys.

That was the moment I realised Chris needs to evolve his game somewhat - and this year he has been slowly doing it. He's been far from excellent, but he's had no horrible games. He's been consistent.

Not sure one should be heading over to the other side of the field looking for the ball.

He doesn't have to go to the other side of the field. I would just like him to look for work when the ball is there. Hodges and Lyon are great at it.

The thing is, what does Lawrence offer that we don't already have? Look at it objectively people.

He is currently playing as a backrower, playing at centre. We have plenty of hard running back-rowers that can make as many if not more metres in attack and hit just as hard if not harder, in defence.

To be able to play centre he needs some pace or trickery about him. He no longer has this.

He can't beat his man through pace or skill any more. He can only use power - a trait of forwards.

I agree. Rowdy has been solid this year but he could be doing the same from 2nd row. Why not start him in the 2nd row instead of Siro? Move Simona to left centre, Nofo to right & bring koro onto right wing. With teddy & patty look at the firepower in that backiline!

I'm sure rowdy would do a good job from the back row & also gives Siro a chance to ease back into 1st grade from the bench. Add Tapau, Gavet & Sue/Ava to that bench & off we go!
