Coach Benji

Huh?
Chooks get pinged more than most

I think he's a great coach who's earnt his position... Like Bennett and. Bellamy cleary good. Players wanna go to good coaches and good coaches have the luxury of choosing good clubs... Rookies don't.
It must be earnt
I think you have misunderstood my response to Tucker's post.

The part I was responding to was, "If he makes the 8 this year, how would you rate him as a coach?"
My response to that was,

"Very lucky and absolutely blessed with the rub of the green.
Shaping up to be a very testing year for him."

Meaning that with players they have lost, injuries and suspensions etc.

that he is going to need a lot of luck and the rub of the green going his way to make the 8 and that it is shaping up to be a very testing year for him.

At no stage did I state that he was a bad coach, merely that it's going to be a much tougher year for him with the current situation that he faces.

I think this is formally Year 2 of 3 with one more to go.

I think there is a lot of upside in Benji and his Head coach approach (Like Bennett)

We need a better defensive coachs/system

Just checked the website, his contract runs until the end of 2027.

This is the original press release:

“Sheens will take charge for the 2023 and 2024 seasons as Head Coach, with Marshall and Farah as his assistants. Marshall will then assume the role as Head Coach for a further three seasons (2025-27).”

And this from his latest bio:

“Marshall is contracted to Wests Tigers as Head Coach until the end of the 2027 season.”

Hopefully the club gets the defensive coach/system sorted.

Early in 23 it was decided that Benji would be the one voice to the players while the club focused their attention on more important matters.
Benji started his 23 season with an 80/20 HC responsibilities split.
The cornerstone of the 5 year plan was Benji’s 2 part 5 year contract.
Following the sacking of Sheens midway through 23, Lee announced we were a year ahead of the 5 year plan. If we decide to take absolutely no notice of Lee’s statement then Benji’s last year as HC will be 27.

Thanks Big Red, Happy to be corrected

3 More Years. Still think we need someone to help fix the Defensive side of the ball

That depends on the football played

Is that 8 wins from first 10 games or 8 wins 10 losses from 18?

Even the latter is a huge step up for us wod see us on 20 points... Not sure when byes are... With about 8 or 9 games to go

As for Benji I hope he has some success he doesn't deserve his legacy here to be that of a sacked
Losing coach... Tho most get the arse eventually
8 wins from 10 starts mate

100%. Hear it all the time hey, a coach gets sacked the players arch up after saying we loved playing for him, it was our fault. Then why did they play themselves to the point their coach gets sacked.
Either they on the quiet didn't want him anymore or the team just didn't have the roster, Benji has a decent team now it's time to show if he can coach this season.

Haha yeah....
"hey Jarome, your last coach took you to 5 grand finals in a row and helped you to win 4 of those on the trot, gifting you every success you ever wished for, resulting in huge reputational value to your brand which you will be cashing in on for many years to come. Whats next for you?"
"yeah mate, I want to leave this highly successful club and go play for the bloke who has won the past 2 spoons...."
Your ability to trash talk his ability is concerning

Just my opinion, but I think Jerome would have more opportunity to pursue his online career with a coach who is totally ok with the concept. Thats where the big $ are. Times have changed, the winners are not necessarily the ones seen on the scoreboard.

Got to be given props for recruitment if people believe part of being a good coach is to attract players

You raise a very good point.

Like - Wayne Bennett is obviously as good as they come, but he also came with with Darius Boyd as a package deal for a good chunk of his career. He doesn't turn up at clubs an just waves a tactical and motivational wand. He has clout in the player market.

I'm sure we would still have Madge as our coach if he came with a Greg Inglis included too. But he didn't, it was the opposite. I know there are some geniuses here who want a "real coach" at the club....

We have no option anymore but to stick with him.

Players have signed to play under him.

We just have to go with it now...
Starting to lean this way to mate if he is as smart as he is made out to be you would expect a lot be learnt already and anymore mistakes from now on quickly absorbed if we part with him next year it will be a playing roster disaster we have had our fill of that in the past.

We need to give a coach 3 years with his roster to know they are any good, and bcoz our roster is so bad it takes a coach at least two years to change the roster so we have to sign them for five years. But we sack them after 2 years..
Hopefully this mentality has changed.
