I know in the end the CEO Pascoe signed off on the contracts but what do you do when told by coach and football manager and head of recruitment ‘this is right for dollars and we need them’???

Yeah I'm pretty sure most CEOs sign off on contracts from a governance and diligence perspective, not roster-building. Justin Pascoe is a sports business administrator not a coach or a talent scout.

Ceo's should be involved with contract negotiations and the cap management. If Pascoe is just signing of on things then we have the wrong guy.

Well, it depends on organisational structure. Pascoe may or may not be directly responsible for these things and it's silly to suggest he "must" be responsible for some specific task at Tigers.

I would expect that he's responsible for salary cap compliance, but that's only a part of overall cap management. He may have nothing at all to do with the structure of the roster and he may not negotiate the content of contracts at all.

Well he's no use to us at all if he's not managing the cap. Dud.

I support Pascoe.

All he is guilty of as far as the cap is concerned is letting the coach run the show. Its hardly irresponsible.

The trouble wasnt the use of the cap the trouble was the coaches.

Everyone can moan and moan about our current roster but our current roster suited the style of football our ex coach wanted to play. This coach is different and these players dont suit him.

Blame the dog that is Ivan Cleary, not anyone else for the mess.

Well he appointed the coach soooooo.

How about the $300k cap penalty? Someone else too? He's a very unlucky guy Pascoe.

Look i get why people are dirty on him but i like the guy and i dont think he has done too much wrong.

Didnt hear too many complain when he hired Ivan Cleary.

I'll support Pascoe as well but when he comes out with statements regarding the cap like Wests Tigers will not be put in the position again with paying players to play for other Clubs the reason our cap was in a mess to begin with ..when that looks likely to happen again..it doesn't sit well..it now comes across as polly speak and just what the fans want to hear at the time..

The coach should have control of the roster of course that his prerogative as he is the one who lives and dies by the sword...

The CEO needs to support and facilitate that with 1st foremost and always in the best interests of the Club...that is yet to be seen..

@Curly_Tiger I am worried that our juniors and lower grades seem to have no big wingers or centres on their books.

We actually do have a big winger (Bradley), a big centre (Talau), and a big centre/winger (Cini) who are all junior rep players in our juniors.

There's also some very fast players in Flegg like Dillon, Scolari, Wilson. They are more the small and fast style.

He would look even stupider to come out and demand Maguire coach these guys Cleary brought to the club. Maguire has every right to play his style of football.

Pascoe will support that 100%.

If that means moving on players we dont need well then thats the reality of what Ivan Cleary did to us.

Yeah I tend to agree ...but Pascoe had no idea that Cleary was going anywhere when those comments were made

Maguire wants a roster that he can work with and get results with

Pascoe and Maguire will need to nut it out ....calling what Pascoe might do before he is even back ....

That's assuming he is coming back I guess ...

He said it on the day Jason Taylor was sacked....giving Cleary a free go with the cap to sign those guys...

It shows his inexperience at the time ..along with trying to manage the issue with Farah that led to our cap fine..overlooking informing the NRL..well you just say lesson learnt..

As I said the Coach controls the roster but with Cleary there seemed to be no balances and checks in place...

Smith as well at fullback. If we a prepared to take a few hidings while these young fellows find their feet, we will have a good team in the future. The recruitment of these junior rep players must continue. We have three in the Open Schoolboys championships this year.

How many foresaw Cleary doing what he did? Easy to sit there now and lay the slipper into Pascoe for appointing Cleary but what he did was pretty much unprecedented.

Braydon Guyan - NSWCHS U18
Flynn Angles-Corke - NSWCIS U18
Zane Camroux - NSWCCC U18

There is a highlights reel of Guyan who is a hooker with Balmain. He playe 8 in Rugby. Angies-Corke is a 5/8 or fullback with Balmain but has Aust Touch pedigree. Camroux is a half with Balmain and excellent family history.

Actually he did the exact same thing when he exited the warriors. He signed with another club with more than a year to go on his contract.
A diligent CEO would have known that, especially when he's a good mate. He'd done it before.

Yeah true I do forget about that. Maybe his good mate thought he would not have done it to him.

On OP, agree largely with the sentiments.

I believe one home ground is the way forward. If the club isn't prepared to do it at first, go back to 6 & 6. If we can't fill out our two suburban spiritual homes, then the club has the evidence to move to WSS or ANZ permanently.

**Honestly believe we should campaign alongside the Macarthur football team to get CSS upgraded to a 35,000 seat stadium. If that ever got over the line then we would surely move there full time.**

i'd agree with that. Maybe 1 or 2 games at Leichhardt for old times sake. That is the only way I ever see us having our own home ground. It would also give us the best chance to grow although i think it would still take a while as i don't think the crowds would come straight away.

Leichhardt is never going to get a big upgrade unfortunately so it's either Campbelltown or share a stadium that's not in our area.

Guyan has been playing prop/lock for balmain sg ball. Camroux did look sharp in the halves and a decent goal kicker too.

But hopefully we're also targeting the best players at the carnival to join us like we did last year.

I'm not against sharing a stadium, but it has to be an announced and NRL promoted policy. I think having 4 x stadiums across Sydney shared by all the clubs is the way to go but at present why should we forego a home ground when no one else is (long term)?

Oh you mean the decisions the head coach is making whilst Pascoe is banned for 6 months?

Yeah it's not great to again be looking at paying players to leave the club, but that's Madge's decision and Pascoe isn't even around to challenge that decision. Pascoe hired Cleary and yeah it was a good hiring, because our previous coaches were all mugs. They weren't backstabbers but nobody was predicting Cleary was going to backstab us and I don't see how that can be something you think about in your search for a head coach.

Lastly, the head coach appointment, if I'm not mistaken, is proposed by the CEO but ratified by the Board. Therefore the Board is as much to blame for any senior-level hiring decision as the CEO is. In fact, @gallagher if you think the CEO is a dud and novice, then better sack the entire Board too because they put the bloke there.
