I haven't watched much this time round , but this is the first time since 1986 that we haven't won the total medal tally or the total gold medal count

Have many other nations improved or are we going backwards as a sporting nation ??

I think there was a stage a few years ago we were going downhill as a sporting nation with faliures in cricket, union, soccer, tennis, swimming, London Olympics and even losing the world champs tag in league. I think however were back on the way up in all those sports.

Australia did very well at these games, with gold won in most sports. The poms beat us but so they should…for starters they have a greater cross section of people to choose from and for seconds, they are still on the olympic games high where their squad recieved huge cash injections to secure gold.
