@TYGA Are the Titans still under ownership of the NRL? Because fair dinkum, the rule about not making offers when they are under contracts, is not working. And I will be livid if it's a club financed directly by the NRL that is doing this.

No. That rumour about the Titans I think is wrong. I heard it from a mate but it was on MMM. I believe we are targeting Sami, Arrow, Brimson for 2021 and they joined the dots.

I spoke to someone tonight who is involved with the club and they know who’s driving it but wouldn’t say. Management, coach and players are livid but Tigers won’t be stood over. It looks like Matterson may have to sit out the year or more at least if he wants out. They may have to take a bad contract to make it happen earlier.

All reports are the Eels but I wouldn’t rule out the Bulldogs. They have missed all their targets and he is actually a dogs junior.

I will be cancelling my membership rollover tomorrow. Want to see how this plays out

I’m doing the same. I sent an email to WestsTigers AFTER I rolled over my membership stating how disenfranchised I felt as a member. I listed many ways that I felt the club showed no respect for members. I also listed ways to turn members into advocates for the club. I received back an explanation that simply justified everything they did.
Now, yet again, we are in the middle of a crap fight. This garbage never happens at Melbourne or roosters.
I’ll always support the club and I’ll watch every game but I’m showing my disappointment by pulling my membership. Sad thing, the club couldn’t care less.

Doesn't rolling over the m'ship mean you are renewing?

If so, did you say in your email that you are opting out?

I initially opted in. I’ve since said not to renew my membership

Sad Steve, Think we four may end up doing the same.

I don't get you guys. Cleary backstabs Tigers and now Matto might be doing the same, and your response is to withdraw membership and penalise the club.

I don't know what you expect the club to do. Damned in all directions if your key signing suddenly wants more money and kicks stones to get his way.

"This never happens at the Storm or Roosters". Well, firstly, go support those damned clubs if that is the benchmark. Secondly, no, teams currently in the top 1 or 2 clubs tend to not have too many upset players.

But actually contract nonsense happens at every club, that's unfortunately part of the deal with sports. Folau backstabbed Melbourne to sign a 4-year deal with Broncos after his debut season. Justin Hodges sought out a mid-year transfer to Broncos from the Roosters in 2004. Ryan Cross strung the Roosters along for a while then defected to rugby. Will Chambers defected to rugby after the 2009 GF. RTS turned down a Roosters deal to take on a lucrative one at Warriors. Rarely do players publicly weasel their way out of deals, but they "backstab" clubs all the time.

"I'll still support the club and watch every game", but, you know, I won't part with any money, to show Tigers how disappointed I am. That's such a disappointing outlook. I understand if money is a problem, but to quit on the Tigers when they need support the most. I mean, bandwagoning is easy, easy as pie to ride with the successful team. But the club needs strong supporters when times are tough.

Apparently we need tougher management and a tough coach, but supporters can just quit.

How dare you call me a quitter! I’ve supported this club for close to 50 years. Who are you to pass judgment?
I have communicated with this club many times in an intelligent, articulate and well thought manner trying to offer well thought through suggestions in how to be a better club. Not arrogantly, not rudely, not forcefully. But nothing changes.
We lurch from one disaster to the next. I’m sick of it. I’m sick of finishing ninth! So, as I cannot make a difference through critical dialogue I am left with only one option - show my frustration through walking and that’s what I’ve done.
You can continue with the moral high ground - you’re choice but I’m making a stand. I’m letting my club know I’ve had enough.
If you don’t like it - fair enough but don’t call me a quitter. I’ll still be there and I’ll probably go to every game as I have for flipping years - but I’m canceling my membership as I have no other way to get my point across.
You’d walk a long mile to find a bloke more attached to this club than me and I won’t walk away. But I’m not paying for membership when it’s not valued and the club continually disappoints.

Great post Steve. Old mate thinks things are just rosey when they clearly are not. Crowds fell this year and going by this thread memberships maybe next but will anyone notice?

@Kazoo-Kid If he's mentally unwell, then how the hell does him leaving Wests Tigers help him get better? What condition does he have that playing for us makes it worse, and going to another team who pay him more makes him mentally better?

If he was unwell, none of this other rubbish would have come up. Yes I've considered it, but I think it's rubbish.

Thanks! An emotional response I know but heartfelt. Club needs a wake up call in many ways. Don’t know any other way to express my disappointment.

Says granted leave for rest of training 2019, and training 2019 is pretty much done correct? So he will be back for 2020

@Kazoo-Kid Just need to be subtle. Coaches drop regular first graders all the time. We even had Packer and Reynolds in Reserve Grade fully fit this year, thats $1.5m in only 2 players... Matterson will only be $425 next year, that's barely half of either of the other two.

Some will say that it will only hurt the club, but I believe re-newing will only keep the same nuffies in charge making the same nuffie decisions.

@TYGA Thanks mate, more tough times ahead it seems. Well, we sure didn't think next year would be any easier, but I was hoping for a little break in between

We got value out of Matterson while we had him. The guy played 80 mins and was all round pretty solid and consistent.

At $800k, he’s not worth the money in my opinion.

Forwards are a dime a dozen. We’ll always be able to replace them.

Secondly, we don’t need guys unsettling the team with their tantrums. If they don’t want in, then bugger off.

$800k is what you pay a game breaker and that he ain’t.

Let another club buy the hype so we’re not stuck with an $800-$900k second rower in 2 years time.

If the Titans are willing to swap Arrow, that’s great, but doubt Arrow would come to us tbh.

Totally agree ..... it’s kind of sad if people are really doing this because one immature player and his manager are playing $ games. Get real people when times get tough .... tough get going. This is not the time to punish the club for something they have very much control over.

Just one player and it would make sense. Numerous good players wanting out over 5 -6 years says something else.

He has the same manager as DCE, he stopped going to training when he was waiting on Manly to up their offer during the Titans saga. DCE won that with a huge deal. Coincidence? maybe

The media turned on Cleary last year.

The media has now turned on Matterson.

It could get ugly for him unless there is something more news worthy tomorrow or the next day.

Have a good look at the off season player movements and then tell me that apart from very few clubs that seem to have unlimited cap space and TPAs ..... this type of thing is just normal business.
It’s just the way life is ... the rich get richer and the poor are just that.

Now the only way I can see that that could change with me is to start following one of the “blessed ones” but you know I’m an old Magpie supporter and am used to seeing good players ripped from my team. And I’m also used to being a proud supporter of an underdog team such as ours. And am happy to see new talent emerging and team getting rebuilt no matter how many times it’s burned down and pillaged!

So you ain’t going to convince me to give up and not support something I believe in and enjoy in my life ..... no matter how many money hungry prima donnas decide to bale out.

I know we all want the club to stand their ground, but the reality is if he truly does want out, that’s it, the club will let him go. Clubs don’t force players to stay or play them in reserve grade anymore, it just doesn’t happen. They cut their losses. The sad thing in all this is that it’s a reminder that contracts mean nothing anymore. We re-signed Aloiai a couple months back for two years. Let’s say he comes out next year and plays like an animal. Whose to say it won’t happen again with him. We signed Packer and Reynolds for 4 years apiece and not even half way through those contracts, both were told they were free to leave. You almost have to treat players as a year to year commodity, regardless of the length of their contract.
