Naaah sorry!
After all this he has to go!
Under current NRL weak knees administration where the lunatics are running the mental asylum ..... we have no chance and I’m afraid are always behind the game.
We’ll get something out of it but unfortunately can’t really see how we will come out in front.
Back to the drawing board. Can’t believe how this club just attracts bad outcome headlines, year after year.

Having had a bit of a think about this and letting it set in.

Im all for making him stick to his contract or sitting out 2 years.

I dont want anyone as compensation.

Screw him.

I'm not going to draw and quarter the bloke before it plays out ..but I agree with this...

Time for a line in the sand..no more doormat..

If we still had an average coach i would be less convinced but Maguire is a decent coach and the excuses just dont stack up now. This aint Mitchell Moses and an average coach.

This is the line in the sand moment.

Spot on. Cave in and it sets a precedent we can’t afford. Give in and release and it does the same.
Stand your ground and only grant a release if we benefit. What happened with Cleary was exactly the Same thing. Let’s hope it’s the same outcome.

Not only a precedent its sets a tone for this whole club. Enough is enough.

This is how you get moved to Perth.

Either he is all in or we make the guy sit out 2 years.

I don't think it would come to that TBH..if he stays you make him a part of the future ..An unhappy player can cause issues within the playing group ...

The concern is Matterson has been released from both Parramatta and the Roosters whilst contracted so he has form in this area...

Thats the issue. This on Ryan Matterson not our club.

He plays or he pays.

Why can’t we medically retire him due to mental issues?
He already has a Dr’s certificate !
That way we save money and he gets a red line through his CV .

I kinda think his CV is a shambles already.

Can we legally play him in reserve grade or make him sit out for his contract? The players association is a lot more powerful now then when tallis played.
If he stays, he's in firsts.
Best case scenario is we get adequate compensation for him. If he doesn't want to play here then tell your story walking. Simple.

Not on our club but always happens to our club. What’s the common denominator? It’s just become a joke. Year after year we stumble from problem to problem.
Well start next year with a reserve grade roster - again!

@Wounded_magpie Parramatta is using the same sombrero the Roosters do. When does their signing extravaganza end? Imagine if the Tigers were the Eels. This forum would be in meltdown.

It’s draining to say the least ..
My young bloke has lost interest...
Same ? all the time .

@The_Patriot Really didn't expect it from someone like Matterson to be honest. Then again, didn't expect it from Cleary either. Both turned from heroes to villains very quickly. Even if Matterson does stay, I don't think any of us can look at him the same way again. And in that case, I say let him go SO LONG as we get something better in return. He can rot in reggies and watch his progressive career go with it too

Depression is the Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon card. it gets you an out from a club you dont want to be with and forces the club you are at to let you go so the club isnt seen to be adding to your mental state.

Its a hard card for the club to beat.

The way you beat it is you tell him he has 2 years on his contract and during that time the club is prepared to put him through rehabilitation and allow him time away from the game. We then go to the NRL with the line we are doing everything in our powers to help the poor bloke who may need up to 2 years rehab and could we please have a cap exemption while he is not playing. See how depressed he and his manager are then.

The broncos have already told Boyd that he will not get the 15 games next year he requires to trigger an extra year on his contract. So in effect he has been told he is reggies next year. Haven't heard a peep out of the players association over that.

“I struggle because at the better clubs, this doesn’t tend to happen and I’m not laying the blame at Michael Maguire but the Wests Tigers have been a basket case for a long time.”

Ben Ikins comment - this guy has hated us for ages - no you wanker it doesn't happen at the better( aka cheating ) clubs because they are the ones poaching you moron.

Good idea, Can you interview for Justin Pascoe's job please

I haven’t commented on the Matterson situation as of yet, but I think it’s obvious the path we have to take.

It’s either he’s stuck playing in the reggies, or we work on a move where we get compensated heavily which the Arrow trade will provide us.

It’s either we get Arrow or Matterson can stay on his contract and play reserve grade here.

If Matterson gets stuck in Reggie’s, then I’m sure he’s gonna realise he can’t do anything and will push for FG - he won’t play reserve grade for 2 years.....

I will be cancelling my membership rollover tomorrow. Want to see how this plays out

I’m doing the same. I sent an email to WestsTigers AFTER I rolled over my membership stating how disenfranchised I felt as a member. I listed many ways that I felt the club showed no respect for members. I also listed ways to turn members into advocates for the club. I received back an explanation that simply justified everything they did.
Now, yet again, we are in the middle of a crap fight. This garbage never happens at Melbourne or roosters.
I’ll always support the club and I’ll watch every game but I’m showing my disappointment by pulling my membership. Sad thing, the club couldn’t care less.

Doesn't rolling over the m'ship mean you are renewing?

If so, did you say in your email that you are opting out?

I initially opted in. I’ve since said not to renew my membership

Sad Steve, Think we four may end up doing the same.

I don't get you guys. Cleary backstabs Tigers and now Matto might be doing the same, and your response is to withdraw membership and penalise the club.

I don't know what you expect the club to do. Damned in all directions if your key signing suddenly wants more money and kicks stones to get his way.

"This never happens at the Storm or Roosters". Well, firstly, go support those damned clubs if that is the benchmark. Secondly, no, teams currently in the top 1 or 2 clubs tend to not have too many upset players.

But actually contract nonsense happens at every club, that's unfortunately part of the deal with sports. Folau backstabbed Melbourne to sign a 4-year deal with Broncos after his debut season. Justin Hodges sought out a mid-year transfer to Broncos from the Roosters in 2004. Ryan Cross strung the Roosters along for a while then defected to rugby. Will Chambers defected to rugby after the 2009 GF. RTS turned down a Roosters deal to take on a lucrative one at Warriors. Rarely do players publicly weasel their way out of deals, but they "backstab" clubs all the time.

"I'll still support the club and watch every game", but, you know, I won't part with any money, to show Tigers how disappointed I am. That's such a disappointing outlook. I understand if money is a problem, but to quit on the Tigers when they need support the most. I mean, bandwagoning is easy, easy as pie to ride with the successful team. But the club needs strong supporters when times are tough.

Apparently we need tougher management and a tough coach, but supporters can just quit.

I'm pretty sure every NRL contract has a clause in it where
- Player has to be actively trying to play first grade.
- Club has to allow player opportunities to play first grade.

Darius Boyd one is a bit different. He has no grounds to stand on as his performance is woeful enough to warrant dropping. It would be against the rules to, from the outset, tell Matterson he has 0 chance of playing first grade.

@TYGA Are the Titans still under ownership of the NRL? Because fair dinkum, the rule about not making offers when they are under contracts, is not working. And I will be livid if it's a club financed directly by the NRL that is doing this.

How dare you call me a quitter! I’ve supported this club for close to 50 years. Who are you to pass judgment?
I have communicated with this club many times in an intelligent, articulate and well thought manner trying to offer well thought through suggestions in how to be a better club. Not arrogantly, not rudely, not forcefully. But nothing changes.
We lurch from one disaster to the next. I’m sick of it. I’m sick of finishing ninth! So, as I cannot make a difference through critical dialogue I am left with only one option - show my frustration through walking and that’s what I’ve done.
You can continue with the moral high ground - you’re choice but I’m making a stand. I’m letting my club know I’ve had enough.
If you don’t like it - fair enough but don’t call me a quitter. I’ll still be there and I’ll probably go to every game as I have for flipping years - but I’m canceling my membership as I have no other way to get my point across.
You’d walk a long mile to find a bloke more attached to this club than me and I won’t walk away. But I’m not paying for membership when it’s not valued and the club continually disappoints.

@Tiger_Steve Can't disagree with your response. I think a few of us have reached our tipping point. I'm going to hold off on my reaction to the club pending their response to Matterson's blackmail. If it's tough and hard-nosed I can stick with them.
