Hunch?
They are tapering towards the finals series, in which they will be a starring group. No chance he'll be released unless Teddy is gonna leave here after origin….

It's the 1st of July..Players can no longer switch Clubs..

There was a bit of a frenzy yesterday with Knight leaving the Roosters Oldfield the Panthers going to the Raiders ..Clydesdale from the Raiders to the Sharks but that will be the end of it for this year..

So it is. Didnt take any notice of the date.

Ivan Cleary coy on Wests Tigers’ play for Connor Watson

Matt Logue, The Daily Telegraph

July 1, 2017 8:53pm

WESTS Tigers coach Ivan Cleary has distanced himself from speculation the joint-venture club are closing in on the signature of Sydney Roosters utility Connor Watson.

Reports emerged this week that the Tigers met with Watson, who agreed to join the club from 2018 to play fullback on a deal worth close to $600,000 a year.

However, the Central Coast junior is contracted at the Roosters until the end of 2018 and is yet to receive a release.

Watson’s manager Steve Gillis told The Sunday Telegraph his client hadn’t made a decision on his future, with Newcastle also in the mix.

The Tigers remain in the box seat to secure Watson if the Roosters formally grant him a release in the coming weeks.

Cleary, though, remained coy about the potential acquisition of the Roosters utility when asked.

“He (Connor) is a good player,” Cleary said.

“We’ve met with quite a few players over the last three months. But I think it is best for all concerned to keep the recruitment things under wraps — it is a very sensitive arena.”

For Cleary and the Tigers, Sunday’s clash against Newcastle is more than just a regular-season match.

His side are currently behind the Knights in last position on for-and-against and need to win to allay fears of collecting the wooden spoon. Cleary believes avoiding this unwanted statistic will be enough motivation for his players to perform.

Cleary confirmed star James Tedesco won’t play against Newcastle on Sunday due to his ongoing ankle injury suffered in Origin II. Kevin Naiqama will be the fullback.

Should be able to change the thread title to OFFICIAL by end of next week.

Nice. Do you know $?

The scenario is complex but basically CW is on a min contract with roosters, they don't have cap space to upgrade him which is why he's seeking a release. Tigers have offered him 465k a season. Roosters have been scrambling to try and find cap space for 2018 to upgrade his deal but can't, one proposal been put to NRL has already been rejected. Roosters don't want to release him. And maybe still won't, but usually in these situations the player and manager wins.

Thanks. Now I see where the journalists are getting their figures from as there is a six in there somewhere, so why not report it as $600k.

While you can stock up with the best of other clubs' juniors, a bottle neck occurs in the NRL. I was surprised that Souths were able to procure Crichton from the Roosters.

I'm confused - i thought the rule on negotiations was that a club couldn't negotiate with a player who is already contracted in 2018 until november 2017 unless his contract club gives him permission to negotiate with other clubs. It doesn't appear as though the roosters would have allowed him to negotiate. Am i wrong on the negotiation rules? or am i missing something.

thats a fallacy in reality. Players/managers are always checking to see what a players market value is worth. For example if roosters wanted to upgrade Watson and offered him $250k a season then Watson and his manager now have the right to find out if that is his true market value. The whole can't negotiate thing is prehistorich and never truly enforced

yeh roosters allowed him to negotiate.

That seems strange if they don't want to release him - i suppose though it gives them an idea of what they have to offer to keep him.

Now I can tell you exactly what watsons true market value is based on my analytics data base and the 465k is overs. Asked on what's available. But in these cases you are betting on him and his upsside to come good and in 18 months time 465k will be unders.

yea i guess that was what i saying in a round about way - its blatantly obvious that the November rule is just on paper as no club follows it - its just another blight on the NRL for not revamping the whole contract/TPA situation - its too hard and and some influential figures like it just the way it is.

Lets hope you are right.
465k could be still massive overs in that time frame very easily.

Will be massive unders under a 9.5m cap. Roosters just have better players in the key positions. You pay for what someone is going to deliver not what they have done.

I hope so too, but at only around five percent of the cap it seems about right for a spine position each way punt.

We'll see wont we? I remember having this same argument re: Broses.
