Just read a fox article by Ben Ikin. Saying one club has already seeked legal advice on when it can stop playing players. Lot of pain to come across the code in these times.

The reality is this is what the majority of the country faces. Why should NRL players be exempt?

Unlike most of us in our jobs, NRL players have a contract which is legally binding

Isn't it funny that many players don't have a problem with breaking a contract when it suits them and their wants

Now the shoes on the other foot and it's not acceptable for the clubs to break the contract

By the sounds of it there may be an agreement reached for some kind of ongoing pay to the players
Let's hope is a good outcome for all

I have a full time employment contract. If things get gnarly I will be working less hours for less pay or I will be at home without pay if the business suspends operations.

Players won't get paid if all the club's and the league go broke.

I'm shocked that these guys think they are so much more important than the average punter....they think there would be no league without them?? Well without fans there would be no league.....Most of us love our footy, and would turn up to watch two teams go at each other with guts and determination who play for the love of it if that's what we had. These guys don't know how to read a room......so bloody entitled

Absolutely. They are carrying on like they are somehow an essential service.

Reality check lads: you toss a pill around for a living. You're very good at it, but you're not curing or treating a virus, keeping things together in a trade or keeping people stocked in the limited retail and food chains that are still open.

the sad thing is guys at a time like this when jobs and businesses are being lost footy would be a good release.
in the depression racing kept going qe had Phar Lap etc i guess racing is still going so at least something.
Tough times ahead

Footy would do a lot for my mental health right now!

Question
What effect does anyone think this will have at grassroots. Stronger or weaker.
I hope it lifts input back at this level but can't see it happening

I think it will definately hurt junior and country football. Most of the clubs live hand to mouth and any disruption to games/income will hurt badly in the short term and to a lesser but still large extent long term.
Pub/club raffles and game bbqs are still a major source of their funds plus in Sydney many if not most junior football clubs do get financial support from the parent NRL club which helps

The only way I see them seeing a positive is if nrl goes bust and the fat is trimmed right back by a new controller. Dont know for sure but I have a feeling there's a lot of wasted money across the game

There has definately been a large amount of money wasted under Greenbergs administration the most obvious one being the donation of a 15k ring to Smiths wife.Undoubtedly there have been even worse decisions than that which have been swept under the carpet. The NRL seems to be top heavy with administrators who are only in it for themselves and are very similar to our useless politicians. The referees have appeared to have massive bias and nepotism in the recent past which is hopefully changing.
When you have a badly infected wound you need to take drastic measures and this crisis may just bring that about

Best post.
Massive mismanagement of funds for the whole of Greenberg's tenure at the very least. Needs to be thoroughly investigated and Greenberg's shiny, smug head needs to be slammed on the chopping block.
Get rid of the useless, spineless, shifty gimp once and for all.

EPL have 120 staffers managing the business
NRL have 400 ?...jobs for the boys

Toddy and his buddies at HQ are on borrowed time! It's one positive to come out of all this.

Yep if the ARLC are looking to “remake” the competition I think they will also remake NRL HQ

Stories today have the NRL players superannuation fund being 10 million short over the last 2 seasons ....NRL going to save some more money when they sack whoever is involved with that

I looked into my super 5 days ago and found that I had lost 20,000dollars off my initial balance,it has been put down to the stock exchange losses..I will take the 10,000 dollars on offer tax free to get me through this period...I may as well make the most of what I have saved for before I lose the lot and have nothing left in retirement..the other impact of this is the people in retirement already who depend on drawing down on their self funded or normal supers, rely on it to pay for golf club memberships, football club memberships and other forms of recreation during retirement, many of these will pull the plug on these things as the economy gets tighter..
It may all be well and good to say we will get over this, but just stop and realise how much this has affected the global economy which Australia heavily invests in...without being morbid and trying to stay positive,I think there is a tough road ahead of us,some are going to suffer more than others, but remember we are all in this together and if you feel a heavy strain make sure you get help,we all need it some time...

You have to be careful withdrawing your super now and way up the cost as you will not receive the accumulated interest and tax benefits later on..

Yes depending on your age you are not really withdrawing $10000, it is more likely to cost you upwards of $30-60000 in the long run based on your age!

Im 3 years off retirement age Cochise 10k now to get me through wont make that much difference seeing I lost 20 k in one hit without knowing it until 5 days ago..

I'm also 3 years away from retirement, my super lost almost $57,000 in 4 weeks but has regained $16,377 in the past week.

I just read on 9 nsm, that the Italian football club Juventas, their players will take a pay cut saving the club 90million euros..the minister is going to extend the ban on matches through all of April and longer if the virus isn't contained.
So if their players want to help by taking paycuts, our guys should understand the situation as well..If there is no more NRL the guys don't have a job...interesting times ahead..

Every player I've seen interviewed since the shut down has said they understand and are willing to take a paycut...a lot of the higher paid players have also said they are willing to take more so the minimum wage guys aren't hit as hard...

By fat do you mean NRL staff members or the wasting of monies that should have been kept in the bank instead of squandered.

Hopefully now the Genie is out of the bottle with the total inept running off the game by the NRL things will change .
Just the wasted money the organisation has spent on running its head office is enough for Greenberg to be sacked today .
Now we all know what has happened with the mismanagement of the huge amounts of funds they received from the Tv rights things will need to change!
Grass roots footy has been struggling for finances for years as Greenberg and his cronies lived like kings in there NRL bunker ,this has finally been exposed for what it is . Now the players pension fund has been exposed for being ripped off for 20million .
I have one question why is GREENBURG as today still Employed!!!🤬🤬🤬
