Yeah well I guess everything has gone downhill to how it was when we were kids. Too many people, too much ‘progress’, too much congestion now. It’s hard find a nice quiet, untouched place anywhere these days, though Broken Hill comes close lol.

You should be heading in the opposite direction. There are many great beaches on the South Coast. Port Kembla is way underrated because you automatically think steel works. Not so, it is a great little beach. Bring your partner and take her to
Tonitos.

I went back to the South Coast in June this year for the first time in over 20 years! It was nice actually and being winter it wasn’t crowded at all. We went a fair bit further down than Port Kembla though.

I must admit Port Kembla isn’t a place I would usually pick to go for a holiday, I don’t reckon many other people would either. Perhaps that’s why you found it so nice!

The beach is great and less crowded than many of the more popular locations and a straight forward day trip from Sydney. I was raised at Austinmer and know all the beaches the Park, Wombarra, Scarborough, Coledale, Sharky, Thirroul, Bulli and Port is right up there with water quality and surf.

Don't stop at Bulli. Woonona is great if you want waves. And far less populated than most others.

Port is probably my go to if we’re talking Illawarra beaches ... crazy waves, only problem is it’s littered with school kids during summer holidays.

I think the biggest swell I’ve seen had 15+ ft waves easy

The variant in the UK is centered around the London area and is apparently more contagious but is not believed to be more lethal

I read that the first case of that strain was discovered three months ago in Kent on 19/20 September, so a bit disappointing if true that notification of it has only been presented recently.

I dont think (I dont know though) that they know if it is more or less lethal. They do know that this new strain has jumped from 28% of new cases to 68% of cases very quickly.

Which strangely enough could be fantastic news for the UK. If its true that this new strain is so much more contagious (28-68% quickly suggests it is) AND it was less lethal, it could actually spell the end of the virus because the new strain would outcompete the old and it would be possible that the new strain could eradicate the old. It would effectively be a natural vaccine.

A bit of a hypothetical follow on from this. The "COVID19" virus has a case fatality rate, somewhere around 1% which isnt high but isnt something that can be ignored either.

In response to the this new "more contagious" but AT THIS STAGE suggested lower case fatality rate mutation of the virus, Europe has closed its border to UK, including even Scotland.

Just a hypothetical thought experiment, if the case fatality rate is significantly less with this much more contagious strain, I can put together a hypothesis that the best thing we could do is fling the worlds border open to the UK. Free flights OUT of GB!
