The 5km rule is for the POLICE, it is not based on evidence or current health advice. That's why Dr Kerry Chant has been silenced.

She admitted it a while back. I don't like the face mask mandate outdoors. It can spread if you are chatting or exercising with someone but it's not a big spreading event.

It is for compliance purposes - i.e. to make it easier for the police to be difficult when they want to be.

Still we are screwed atm. Deaths trail hospitalizations which trail infections. Vaccinations mean less infections and significantly less hospitalizations and deaths. There are a lot more deaths coming prior to us getting this under control if we ever do.

Gladys admitted the 5km rule had nothing todo with the current medical advice, it’s purely for the POLICE. I’m happy to follow health advice, not happy that an unelected Police Commissioner is making policy decisions, just so it’s easier for the POLICE. That’s not how a democracy works.

I didn't get your point the other day until later. I think I get it now. You believe she is going to get pushed out because he made those decisions. It's a good point because it's very police state like. I don't like it.

Dr Chant was very pro police today and I heard her state the outdoor mandate was only based on compliance. My impression is Dr Chant is pro all these measures. She just wants the case numbers to start going down.

I don't believe this approach can continue for too long though.

Dr Chant has already told the premier that if you don’t want to take my advice then perhaps you should put someone in my position that tells you what you want to hear. The premier just about shat herself. At the moment Dr Chant is staying but for how long.

Interested in how you are so accurate with bowel movements.....

Where did you hear that?

Sorry but I can’t divulge my sources on that one. Things are very tense within the government right now. I will say no more.

Yeah I was wondering as I hadn't seen that anywhere, so its inside info. Chant did seem a bit more serious, stern and bullish in today's presser.

Definitely bullish but at times she looked like she was going to cry then went on a rant that would have made the grim reaper proud. Seems to me like someone under a lot of stress from all sides.

It's been the case since the initial Bondi case. NSW were complacent because we went so long without local transmission. Social distancing, hand sanitiser, masks, check in codes all ignored.

Delta changed everything and both the Government and the Medical advisers, in hindsight, have been staggeringly wrong with their responses.

I totally agree. No one got it. Then it's too late.

I think Dr Chant did get it and Gladbags and Hazard ignored her advice to benefit the business lobby over the welfare and health of the community.

I assume that happened as well but I don't think they acted really late. It's that plus the Delta strain.

People should watch the press conferences. It's interesting if you are a boring person like myself.

I read somewhere that Dr Chant advised the government to lockdown the Eastern Suburbs hard (like the northern beaches were at xmas) when the Delta outbreak first started but she was overruled by Gladys. If so this is all on the government

I work in residential building management....too many people still not masking up
in common areas, foyers, gardens carparks etc....why you'd get in a lift in a building housing 60/80
apartments with probably 200+ people living there, without a mask is mind boggling.
I take the stairs when I can

This is a generic point about the COVID crisis in NSW/Australia/The globe......Im not talking specifics of Chant or anyone specific, but everyone pins ALL of the credibility on the medical professional, which is understandable however the decisions that Chant/Fauci or any medical advisor in this situation are completely medically based, These are NOT the basis if the decisions that need to be made in these circumstances..

Let me make a ridiculous scenario to make my case. Dr Chant/Fauci, what is the best way to reduce the spread of infection/reduce the number of cases and deaths? Answer.....Weld people into their houses.

Mrs/Mrs Premier/Prime Minister/President....What is the best way out of this? Answer, .....the minimise cases/deaths and make sure that our health system is not totally overrun and devastated all the while ensuring that small business is not crushed to the point that it cant recover from this and devastate the economy.

Too many of the public are fundamentally flawed in their character, that's the problem.

Mother Theresa could be the Premier and there'd still be that 1% of knuckleheads doing the wrong thing.

Dr Chant is a medical expert and responsible for providing medical advise and the advise that will keep the spread to a minimum. She is not a politician or an economist.

I work at woolworths, in Parra LGA. When lockdown started I was expecting an initial rise in sales followed by a steady decline. But there has actually been a steady increase since the inital rise after lockdown.
The non-compliance is rife. I would say probably about 10% of people dont wear masks over their face. There is minimal social distancing between customers and virtually none by customers with staff.
Im not sure if mandated or simply recommended but there is meant to be only one per household shopping on any given day. There is meant to be no meeting up with people from other households to shop together or even catching up with a friend you bump into at the shops.
If the police were to start issuing fines for any of this there would literally be 100s of fines a day from each store.

In Bathurst even before this latest lockdown there was compliance with wearing face masks of about 99%.
Most stores including the major supermarkets wouldn’t let you in the door if you weren’t wearing a face mask.
Anyone walking downtown without a mask would be talked to or abused for being arrogant and not complying with wearing a mask.

Yeah, my parents live at O'Connell and they couldn't comprehend some of the stories ive told them about what has happened at Woolworths here compared to their shopping experiences.
TBF there is very few that dont have a mask at all it is just the absolute ridiculous amount of people who wear it under their chin or some other pointless fashion.
We're not allowed to ask people to fix their mask up or similar even in a friendly non-judgmental manner. Evidently due to too many instances of abuse towards staff trying to enforce the rules. Seems to be a question of what is safer potential Covid exposure or potential abuse? There has been a few instances of (minor) physical abuse (to go with the daily verbal abuse) of staff at our store in the past during the whole toilet paper panic, as well as a customer pulling a knife on another customer so i guess it is a fair question.

Some of these ignorant people need a lump of 4x2 over the back of their heads (most probably wouldn’t do any damage, no brains and happy without them).

The people are stopped from bringing the virus home from a cafe or a club but they are still very easily able to bring it home from a crowded woolworths, this is the flaw.

Likewise, I never get in a lift with anyone else. Take the stairs as much as feasible. A confined space is just asking for it.

The Bunnings one is interesting, I can see why it is important for it to be open.
