Please also if you have a sore throat even if you dont just gargle with some salted water it kills it it sits in your throat and multiples super quick then makes its way into your respiratory tract

I don't think that this is true. https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/19/gargling-salt-water-vinegar-not-kill-coronavirus-throat-12421597/

Salt Therapy is useful in the recovery phase of colds and lung infections. It may help to minimise
recurring infection and provide relief from a runny or blocked nose and sore throat. The salt does not
actively kill viruses or bacteria, however it alters the available water and pressure of viral and
bacterial cells within the mucus of the respiratory system. The salty air draws water out of the viral
and bacterial cell causing the virus and bacteria to die. Individuals with long term pseudomonas
infection and recurring pneumonia infections may benefit from Salt Therapy as the salt cleans the
lungs of mucus and reduces inflammation.

Also forgot to say that the guy from SA also said that Australia will be worst then Italy because the schools are still open and kids carry the virus and will infect a bigger percentage of adults

This guy doesn't sound trustworthy.

All the research says that this is still unknown, so it puts into doubt all the information you are providing. In saying that your other information sounds off as well!

Talk about gargling with salt water etc. FWIW I have read that drinking regular hot drinks will knock any covid 19 virus around that is in your throat. It doesn't stand heat well.

Have you heard much from any doctor in main stream media about how it incubates in your throat?

That was the advice coming in from Italy

I think my job is in the early stages of shutting down. We’re slowly shutting down services. Only a matter of time I think.

Personally, I know it’s not comparable to anyone whose lost someone close to them, or has someone close to them suffering, but this panic buying is out of control. I have no idea when it will stop. They’re saying the pandemic could last 18 months, So is this what shopping will be like for the next 18 months?

People's fridges and pantries will only hold so much
When they are full, the panic buying will stop

No they spent the day at Hardly Normals buying more freezers to fit more stuff in

I posted in the other CV thread but there will be a bucket load of call center jobs flooding the market very quickly.

With both Manila and India being locked down the big companies in Australia will be recruiting. I can tell you that Telstra, TPG and Optus will soon.

Something is better than nothing.

This happened in our summer - at the peak of the tourist season. We aren’t even taking temperatures at the airport. The number seems quite low all things considered.

We don't know just yet. You could be right and we could be completely screwed already. Maybe that is why the government is holding off in relation to a lockdown. Maybe they are just waiting to see how many more positive cases we record.

I assume you are implying that this could get a lot worse in winter and I agree.

My only point is let's hold off on the panic until we have facts but at the same let's all be really careful and practice social distancing, not hoarding food & toilet paper etc. In 2 weeks to a months time if we appear to have avoided the same trajectory that has occurred in other countries then we can reassess where we are at.

The handling of the cruise ship situation was extremely poor by the people that went ahead with their trip and the way the government handled releasing those people back into society. These people probably aren't the most socially aware and may be more likely to not practice self-isolation. Maybe every passenger released should have had enforced self-isolation in a government approved and funded facility.

No one is panicking.

People are simply assessing the facts as they come in and are trying to make logical conclusions as to what this means for them. On a psychological level, it's the only thing in their control. It's become evident over this period that health data is not a reliable measure of the immediate situation and we have many examples across the world to draw our conclusions from.

If you've ever studied economic crises in particular, you'll know that panic buying is a totally normal human reaction in these cases.

I keep hearing "you can't eat toilet paper" or "coronavirus doesn't make you go to the toilet" as reasons why toilet paper shortages are irrational.

People have missed the point. Nobody is buying because of that. It's that the people aren't stupid and they knew things would get worse. They didn't want to be lining up in queues with everyone else to get basic supplies.

They knew that with everyone home from work, and everyone buying at the same time, there would be nothing on the shelves anyway. Our supply chains are not designed to push products to stores fast enough for these one-off scenarios. It's inevitable you will have shortages of things that last a long time and/or have multiple uses - things that last a long time are, of course, not produced in our regular supply chains as quickly as perishable items. This is especially true when people are unclear as to how long they'll have to be at home.

Throughout history, the same items have been missing from shelves in times like this. Look up Venezuela...exactly the same products were in short supply as what we are experiencing here. This should come as no surprise.

It came as a surprise to me mate, as I didn't know about the history of particular items being bought up when similar things happened before.

I realise people are scared, totally okay, a part of me too. But I think we hoped that we would do better and not as a community stoop so low so quickly.

I think things are slowly improving at the supermarkets... Delivery time restrictions have been relaxed and the panic buying pin heads have crawled back into their mcmansions.... Did a usual shop last night where we usually get frozen fruit for smoothies... Sometimes six different flavoured packets... Go 3 last nihhhht but . Was only allowed two but the guy at the self serve said just do 2 transaction.... We also had four pkts of chips lol

Why do the panic buyers live in McMansions? Seems like a strange thing to say.

OK... It's strange

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but does anyone know what’s happening with domestic flights ? Apparently there will be a decision made on Tuesday on wether or not domestic flights are off or still can go on. Not sure would be helpful if anyone knew. Thanks.

No seriously, I am really interested as to how/ why you have suggested the hoarders/ panic buyers are apparently rich and live in big houses? You wrote it, just after an explanation to gauge what you meant by it.

The guy from SA just told me all data about reporting the numbers of corona case must be only reported to the government and they will release what numbers they to not scare people

The Australian government has discovered the Napalise way the Napalise have no corona virus because they don't test and so nothing to report and all is fixed

So the Government is deliberately miss leading the people..?

Interesting data coming out of the UK showing there numbers day by day are identical to Italy’s.
Fears they have left it too late.

Re Australia they aren’t fudging the numbers, we have a very high test rate especially in nsw - states are publishing there numbers.
