Mental Health experts are predicting the impact of covid-19 to result in an extra 1500 deaths per year over the next five years.

Suicide rates are predicted to rise by up to 50% which would outnumber deaths by the pandemic by 4 times.

GP consultations down by up to 50% pathology test a down by 40% up to 60000 people aren't getting tests done.
Which could result in even more deaths and serious health problems.

This was my argument all along.

The prevention would end up doing more damage than the virus itself and i have no doubt it will.

And if 20000 people died because we did nothing than you would still be wrong?

Who mentioned doing nothing?

lol, Our restrictions have likely saved 10's of thousands of live mate.

How did you figure that out?

The data points to that

Bollocks

So Italy, UK, Spain, USA... All abberrations?

Mate I think the best idea is to ignore him, he is an unintelligent troll.

There will be significant change in work practices including office accommodation. The trend towards hotdesking or staff not having a permanent workstation must cease.

Provision of additional public transport to reduce congestion must occur. Will Govt stop urban expansion and infill development to alleviate overcrowding?

The culture for awarding the VC to staff who come into the workplace while sick must end.

Don't think he's a troll just one of those who wouldn't look out of place with a Libertarian Snake sticker on their car.

Is it possible to check anywhere if companies qualified for Jobkeeper or not for certain months /periods of time ?

My sons employer registered HALF of their qualified staff for jobkeeper, you can guess which half my son is on.

There are some scumbags out there.

Apart from cashflow to cover wages while waiting for jobkeeper, I can't see any reason employers wouldn't signup all eligible staff. It is just mindboggling to me that you would treat people like that.

My daughter has kept on all her staff even though she has had to close her business premises. They have been able to continue at a reduced level on-line rather than face to face.
In anticipation of receiving jobkeeper she has continued to pay her staff, some of which are part time and wouldn't normally earn $1,500 a fortnight. So some staff members have had a bit of a windfall.
Although her business has dropped, she still has a flow of income from work performed earlier in the year and for which payment had not been received. The wash-up is that her actual income, expressed as dollars in the door this month, is down about 25% so she won't qualify for jobseeker. She has already paid all her staff so the reduction in income, which will come further down the line, will need to be absorbed by her personally.
She will continue to pay her staff, although at their normal rate, not $1,500 per fortnight, but the process has not been an easy one for small businesses. There has been great uncertainty about the qualification criteria.
I believe that some businesses have NOT applied for jobkeeper because of the uncertainty about how far their income will reduce.
Having said all that, I acknowledge that it isn't easy to design a payment system like this at short notice. On balance I think the government has done a pretty good job and, lets face it, the public purse is not bottomless.
But I can see reasons why a business would not apply or would hedge its bets by only nominating staff that they see as essential to the business in the long term.

Agreed, whilst there has to be a line drawn, the system has many issues that basically end up punishing those that are helping in keeping our community running and ready to return. At least they have extended deadlines, though some areas of the initial approach, especially wanting banks to provide loans was a ridiculous aspect of the program.

As a long term member of my son's school P&C's, in which unlike most that use contractors, we still run the canteen to keep the prices affordable for most and had to have multiple remote meetings to sort through and vote on many issues. Despite being closed almost immediately upon the national restrictions, they included having to pay wages and super prior to, then through the school holidays period and beyond to meet the requirements.

Agree on all accounts.

I did a stint at one of the two major supermarket chains and I was partially based at the head office which was a hotdesk set up. I'm a bit of a germophobe so I wasn't a big fan of hotdesking, on the upside after I had settled in I largely worked from home anyway if I wasn't on site.

There hasn't been a company I've worked at where you get made to feel like crap if you decide not to come into work because you're not up for it and don't want to pass it to others, but then someone comes in crook and spreads it through the office and they become a pariah also.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I'm an IT contractor, and if I don't work I don't get paid. If I don't get paid, we can't afford to pay the bills. So having a sick day is not an option for me, unless I'm absolutely bedridden.

If I have the cold or the flu or something like that, I stock up on lozenges, tissues, medicines, paracetamol, everything that helps, minimise what I touch or come into contact with, and do my best to not spread it. There's no alternative really.

I understand NSW Govt will keep public servants working from home to reduce congestion on public transport.

In the Inquiry yesterday, one newspaper is in danger of contempt and had until 12pm yesterday to respond to the Inquiry.

Bret Walker was very interested in the requirement for a Human Health inspection to be undertaken prior to the granting of Pratique under Federal Legislation. There was a twinkle in his eye which spells trouble for the Feds when called up to the Inquiry.

Great news for NSW.

Hong Kong is kicking butt at the moment. 0 local cases for around 3 weeks now. The small number of imported cases are also being picked up within a day from immediate testing. I'm back on client site full-time now and everything is starting to get back to normal.

Still masks and hand sanitiser everywhere though. Can't see that changing in a hurry.

I wish China could keep the factories off. I've never seen so many clear, beautiful days in HK.

Yeah. It can get horrid mate. When you have to install a pollution tracker on your phone and stay inside on bad days, you know it's bad.

It's a beautiful city when the air is clear. I reckon the harbour is 2nd only to Sydney.
