How would they be able to tell if you have been vaccinated or not?
Probably upgrade of that Covidsafe app or Service NSW app for check-ins.
Not sure what happens if you forget your phone, run out of charge or don't have one.
I would imagine that everyone vaccinated will be given a plastic ID stating vaccination status .
As this will be a requirement for OS travel.
Why would that happen here when its not happening anywhere else? All of Europe and the US are travelling without vaccine passports.
My understanding is that EU and USA citizens can travel freely throughout Europe if they have a digital vaccination certificate. If not, they are subject to the quarantine requirements of each of the European nations that they travel to.
In Australia you can get a digital vaccination certificate by linking your medicare account to your mygov account and by downloading the medicare app to your phone (other more computer literate people on here will probably explain that better). The certificate is available a few days after your second injection.
The Australian certificate has no application at the moment, but you have to think that they had a purpose in mind when they created it.
One my best mates is currently in Venice with her daughter. She is unvaccinated. Jumped on a train in Budapest, spent a week in Vienna, then onto Venice, not a problem in the world.
Wouldn't it be harder to try and enact that in the EU?
Very near impossible I would think, which is my point I guess. If it is not enacted in Europe/US/Asia, why would we impose that on our own people to travel OS?
I suppose other things depend on vaccinations in our society, no jab no play etc. So it's not like it's the first time something has been imposed that depends on one being vaccinated against a disease.
There will be a point where everyone whom is vaccinated will be vaccinated and we will just need to get on with things. I have no qualm allowing unvaccinated Australians leave the country if wherever they head to is willing to take the risk on them being unvaccinated and a much easier vector for the virus. I also wonder how many travel insurance agencies will say they have to be vaccinated to be covered for treatment. Vaccinated or not, I obviously have said until I am blue in the face in the past that they should be allowed to return home.
I would think that for a period after we hit our target, vaccinated travellers here could be free to enter without hinderance and unvaccinated will still have to undergo quarantine until the remnants of the community that want to be vaccinated are. Once that number tapers off, I guess the government needs to make a decision on whether they want to continue to impose that unvaccinated travellers and unvaccinated returned Australians.
Thankfully for Australia, our largest tourism demographic are the Chinese, they will all be vaccinated and they spend something like $12.5B here alone, nearly as much as the next five largest contributors combined.
The other five largest tourism contributors are the Kiwis, US, UK, Japan and Singapore.
I would think the Kiwis will have a high vaccine take up, the Poms likely will too, and Japan and Singaporeans will definitely have a high take up simply down to a culture of responsibility. The US will be the only question mark.
I don't think having a quarantine system in place for unvaccinated travellers will hurt us too much.
