I agree Centaur but think we need to find someone better and more reliable than Warner
It's only fair that Warner be given the same chance Hughes has had.

Yeah but I just don't see Test Cricket in Warner sorry CB but as Centaur said he is a better option than Hughes I still think we can develop some better than both of them

@Yossarian said:@happy tiger said:MM Totally agree with Hussey opening the batting If it hadn't been for the fact we had Hayden and Langer he would of become an opener Still see Marsh opening the batting as well
Possibly even Khawaja as an opener
The way Hughes has been going, Khawaja is pretty much acting like an opener now! The Aus selectors need to realise we don't have Matt Hayden anymore so we're not going to be 0-130 at lunch. I'd rather be 0-70 or 1-70 than the 4-100 we seem to be most games these days. Problem with M Hussey is the guy is 36 which IMO is a little late to be shifting around when we'd be better off looking long-term.

@Marshall_magic said:Katich was made the scapegoat from our poor Ashes showing (it was him, Ponting or Hussey), which was a bit silly in my opinion as we are short openers. However he's carried on like a child ever since and I think we need to move on.

That's a fair assessment of it MM. But at the same time, we should be looking to let Punter and Hussey retire at the end of this summer and move on with youth so we can start preparing for another spell at the top. This whole policy of letting batches of players playing their careers out at the same time has killed us.

CB One thing we need to do is learn from the past Losing heaps of experience all at once can cause much more harm than good 1984 was an example Losing Lillee ,Marsh and Chappell and then the rebel tour to SA left us with some of our worst teams in the history of Australian Cricket (barring WSC )
To go and push Ponting ,Haddin ,Hussey ,Katich all in one massive cleanout could be very painful ,gradually easing one out a summer would be far better if possible

I get what you're saying Happy. My point was more directed at when Warnie, McGrath, Martyn, Langer & Gilchrist all retired within 18 months of each other.
@happy tiger said:Yoss we were talking last night about the Qld v Victoria shield game and how we found it unbelieveable that no one passed a message on to the players to make sure they got run out to get the 3 points
The players on the balcony were screaming at them to run the second and get run out . As you can probably guess the lack of a crowd made that quite easy for the players to be heard

Why was he even considered an option for scapegoat? He was one of our best performing batsmen!
But yeh, he has killed any chance he ever had of getting back into the team with his carry on. Although he is probably right in that Clarke has had something to do with him getting the can.
