dhoni is a bloody great captain- probably the best thing to happen to indian cricket since sachin, ganguly, dravid and laxman. i disagree about him not being a great tactician- however, one of his strengths has always been player management whether it be senior players or the youngsters.

his biggest downfall was that he was never able to adapt to test matches. he's a real outside the box thinker and if you follow his t20 and ODI career you'll see it.

i'd say he has retired a year or two too early. as we saw in this series, **kohli is in no way capable of leading a side with his lack of maturity on a full time basis**. imo, it's a weak and selfish decision by dhoni to abandon ship now- he could've given up captaincy instead of retiring.

all in all, a great player- usually selfless and puts the team first. hope he can dominate ODI and T20 and keep the world cup for us.

Why not? He doesn't take any crap and stands up for himself. Good on him.

I can't see them playing 2 spinners in Sydney. They don't even have enough faith in their number one spinner, so why would they pick another one. Especially when we have so much quality fast bowling around atm.

i dont think he has anyone to rely upon- not many in that team have played over 10 test matches.
kohli will make a great captain one day no doubt but atm he's too arrogant, immature and moody to do that on a full time basis with basically no support.

only one test to go though- next test series is a few months away post world cup.

Thanks so much for everything MS. Your calmness, awareness, unorthodox style of play will never be forgotten. I think MS knew the time was right, with Kohli having just enough experience to take over the job. I think Kohli will definitely provide more aggression and extravagance to our cricket. can't wait for the Sydney Test. Hopefully This decision by MS can help improve his already staggering shorter format gameplay, and hopefully help us retain the World Cup next year.

I haven't got to watch as much cricket as I would of liked , but is it just me and Channel 9 really seem to let the sledging fly

They just hopped into the young bloke who got out second today and Kohli was copping it from everywhere

I don't mind a bit of banter and loved to sledge blokes myself but if it is that prevalent in the game it needs to be toned back a bit

Chappelli is right , I reckon an on field blue isn't too far away

Chappell is one to talk about sledging…

Nothing wrong with the chirping. Both sides are giving as good as they get, only one person seems interested in having a cry to the media at conclusion of play though.

Am i the only one who thinks the standard is appauling ?

Their obsession with Glen Maxwell is embarassing and resemblant of nines obsession with Burgess and SBW.

Great innovation in their coverage, however their commentary IMO is embarassing..

Each to their own, I like it. I think they're all good commentators, except for maybe gilly who I don't really rate.
The best combo is mark waugh, ponting and the blonde hair guy leading the commentary

Individualy they're all good except Gilly who is crickets version of rabs, always behind the play and making obvious mistakes.

But it gets annoying when they start talking about netball, afl and topics which have nothing to do with cricket. I just want to watch the cricket who cares about Hawthorn, Carlton and what position Flintoff played in netball as a youngster. It's not a comment here and there either, but a discussion which last 2-3 overs.

I don't know, i find if irritating…

The new generation of cricket commentators are atrocious

serious? i quite like hussey, clarke and warnie.

used to love chappel but he just keeps criticising everyone and going on and on about one thing.

when healey, brayshaw (cant bear him at all- annoying as s***) and chappel comment together- i go for the mute button

Dave Warner is taking the piss. 7 centuries in his last 10 Tests, averaging 65.1.

How's your best mate Watson going CB ??

Warne is a dope. Talking about pizza in the second session was a challenger for lowest point in cricket commentary with James Brayshaw talking about Dave Warner's arse.

Hussey and Clarke are both quite knowledgeable. No doubt Clarke will go on to be a mainstay and doesn't buy into the boys' club rubbish. I don't mind Tubby too much.

Chappell as you said TP is a bitter old turd who incessantly rambles on about how cricket was better when he, Snow, Mallett and "my brother Greg," all played.

Healy and Brayshaw are painful. I can't listen to Brayshaw commentate anything.

Mate he's flown to a quickfire 7 off 30 balls.

We're 2/200 odd, series won, no pressure whatsoever, playing at the SCG… He's due for a huge ton off 400 balls.

Perfect summary mate !
Does anyone remember about 10 odd years ago when Ian Healy copped a head butt in Perth from
One of the Barmy Army ???
It was piss funny !
