Danny Galea

so sheens gets bagged for turning him into a backrower and now galea is a must sign for the position.

this reminds me of the must sign ryan threads last year.
and now people turn around and want him gone.
his form is the same as his few games in 07 through to now.
galea is the same, while he filled in at front row it was obvious what his game would be like in the backrow.
i have never seen a backrower make so few yards in attack and get so much praise.

just remember the type of player you are getting before you start to sharpen the knives.

He is essentially Fulton with less ball playing but defence that dominates rather than makes legs tackles.

He is also cheaper.

On the subject of Ryan. It is not his fault he is very, very limited in ability. If Tagive had not blown his shoulder than Ryan would be running around for the Magpies. It's that simple. Yes there are better lower grade options IMO but now is not time to mess with a teams dynamic unless you have to

Have to agree there bonstonker.

The first 1.5 years he was with us was plagued by injury so we havent exactly got value for money.

Its obvious that people have there favourite players or ones they dont like which probably clouds there judgement.

Why do people think Sheens was the one to turn him into a backrower? He was already transfroming into one at Penrith but had to fill in in the centres his final year. He was always going to be a backrower no matter what club he played for, and thats exactly where he wanted to play. Sheens had nothing to do with it.

IIRC, in the first media release when we signed Galea, he was quoted as saying he left Penrith for a chance to play back row.

Umm, not once did i say he played more backrow at Penrith. I said he was always GOING TO BE a backrower no matter where he played. Penrith saw him as a backrower too, but because of a lack of depth outwide and lots of talent in the backrow, he played mostly centre. Try looking outside stats and numbers etc, u might just find that mysterious grey area that exists in life.

Lol what for 4 years they had injuries and never once used him as a second rower so theres no grey area.

Just maybe look at admitting its just your opinion not a fact.

Sheens bought him to the club as a second rower and cause of his injuries for over a year and our side had forwards injured he got used there and looking in hindsight i guess he shouldnt have been there.

Oh well hes getting a go now.

So he never played backrow off the bench for Penrith? I must be going blind. But thats not the point, the point is where himself and everyone else saw him ending up, and it was always believed to be the backrow. I cant back up my argument with anything specific as it was just a general consensus that he was ultimately a backrower, (bit like Ricketson) and i have no idea how i could prove that. Its no big deal anyway, im of the belief it wasnt just Sheens who saw his future there, certainly not worth wasting too much of each others time on something trivial.

And for the record, i can admit when im wrong, its just that im yet to ever be wrong lol…....nah have admitted it many times.

you are correct that sheens didn't turn him into a backrower.
but galea wasn't transforming into one at penrith either,he started first grade at penrith as a backrower .
but whenever there is a thread about sheens turning players into backrowers his name always comes up.or when we are short at center his name again comes up about being a centre who turned into a backrower, which was not the case.

yes he does deserve praise, but not a fat contract for it.his attack is not threatening and he does not show the workrate to get back down in our end and take those hard yards.
we got into salary cap problems for overpaying players who do not have a complete game.

dont get me wrong,i do see his value, but at this stage he is a borderline starter in my eyes.he plays his role well off the bench and if he can show more production in hard yard carries his value would go up and be considered more than a bench player.
with us a chance to make the finals there is no better time for him to prove his worth in both aspects of his game.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that he get a "fat" contract, just more than the minuscule amount that he has reportedly been offered. With Dene leaving for the Dogs, that should open up a bit more cash to offer Galea something a bit more surely?

Anyone have a sniff of whats going on with Danny be it re-signing or signing elsewhere? It's just gone very quiet as far as I can see.

Cheers and go you Mighty 2010 Tigers

I said at the start of the year and some ppl thought i was mad , i said u watch one of the top sides pick him up imagine him in a top pack and him just concentrating on doing his job he is a coachs dream he can nail blokes for 80 minutes with one of the best defensive techniques my pommy mate cant believe a pommy club hasnt offered him big money instead of an overated inconsistent big name . I would hate to lose him i think attitude and Mental toughness is the biggest attribute a team needs and gareth and danny galea have that u no they will turn up every week .

I reckon it's quiet on Galea because he (& probably Payten) are the names on the table for a swap with Burgess.
If Burgess ever makes a decision we'll hear about Galea's future very quickly I think.
