CANTERBURY have denied a report suggesting representative forward David Klemmer has requested a release from the final three years of his contract.
Klemmer, according to Fairfax Media, asked the club for a release from his lucrative deal.
The NSW forward is apparently annoyed over money he was promised as part of his existing four-year deal, which expires at the end of the 2020 season.
Bulldogs chief executive Raelene Castle refuted the notion that Klemmer had requested a release.
Klemmer has recently said he was thrilled the club had signed one of his best mates, Blues teammate Aaron Woods, from Wests Tigers.
However, the arrival of Woods, coupled with experienced props James Graham and Aiden Tolman being on the books at Belmore in 2018, means the club is top heavy in the front row.
Bulldogs veterans Sam Kasiano and Greg Eastwood are believed to be on the outer at the club despite being on contract until the end of next season.
The Tigers, who have bolstered their pack with Kiwi duo Ben Matulino and Russell Packer, are in the market for more forwards.
Another of Klemmer’s long-term mates, Canterbury five-eighth Josh Reynolds, has signed a four-year deal reportedly worth $3 million to play at the Tigers from next season.
Newcastle, Parramatta, Storm and Manly have also believed to be keen to add depth to their packs.
Canterbury announced the re-signing of fullback Will Hopoate earlier this week until the end of 2020 while hooker Michael Lichaa is yet to strike a deal with the club with the three-year contract he signed after leaving Cronulla in 2015 running out at the end of this season.
