I think that’s smart, Roberts is definitely better on the right.

Given Lee's earlier comments on Nofo it appears likely he overruled Hartigan and Madge on the length of the contract.
I'm happy to have Nofo locked up for the long-term. He plays a big role in our culture and it's important to reciprocate that in his contract, especially given our handling of previous players in the past.

Why, what were Hartigan and Maguire's desired lengths of the contract?

Media reports stated the club and Nofo couldn't agree on the length of contract with 3 years initially offered before he accepted this 4 year contract.

So, was it up to Lee to break the deadlock?

That's my take on it given how long the negotiations were drawn out for, the stumbling blocks , and Lee's comments on Nofo

Bottom line with Nofa is he attracts a one club salary cap discount ( I think it must kick in soon), so his value against the cap is probably not that great.

We have other players who qualify for the discount so it really makes no difference.

This is awesome news. A great player. Professional clubman. Someone who works hard and bleeds for the club. Remember this is a bloke that Madge DROPPED and that came back afterwards and was our player of the year and Dally M Winger of the Year a season later. Re-signing him was necessary as it says a ton about our culture, our club and our coach.

Anyone complaining about this needs to pull their head out of the sand and actually be a supporter for once instead of a Chicken Little sky is falling dipstick all the time. This is one of the greatest Tigers of all time, our current best damn player and he re-signed in his prime on a reasonable contract. If you're gonna complain about this then I feel bad for those around you honestly.

Seriously?
One of the greatest Tigers of all time?
Our best player?
You’re right about one thing... he re-signed on a reasonable contract - for him!
Once I pulled my head out of the sand and was actually a supporter of the club, and not one player, I soon realised that in a few years time we’ll be in exactly the situation Penrith were in with Mansour- a slow, short, winger way past his prime eating up cap space.
I would have no problem if it was 3 years with the last in our favour.... but really, do you really think Dave will be our first grade winger in 2025?
If he is then God help us.

Yes he is easily one of the greatest Wests Tigers of all time. He'd be top ten in games played. He's probably the best winger we've had (you could maybe argue Tuqiri, Tuiaki and Richards) but Nofoaluma has been a longer servant than all of them and only Tuiaki won Dally M Winger of the Year while here.

And he is the reigning Wests Tigers Player of the Year so the club certainly think he's our current best player.

He'll be like 31 in 4 years. His game is based on power running. Many an NRL player is still in their prime at 31. I think he is likely to be one of them.

"The Tigers lost Harry Grant, missed out on Josh Addo-Carr **and chased hard for Josh Mansour**, so Nofoaluma's prized signature is a huge morale boost."

Surely not. With Nofo staying, I am very glad we avoided this one.

There are wingers still playing at age 31 and over. Anthony Donn, Jordan Rapana, Brett Morris.. That’s all I could find but there have been old wingers in the past. The knights had McDougal , played until he was 36 I think? But he was a real health fanatic, made his own smoothies.

He turns 28 in November this year.
2022 he'll be 28.
2023 he'll be 29.
2024 he'll be 30.
2025 he'll be 31.

He is in his prime right now. He will probably have two more years of this and then taper off. As long as he looks after himself that taper might not be that bad. And his contract isn't going to be toxic come 2025. By then the salary cap will probably be way higher.

really happy @weststigerman especially the 4 year deal very exciting....
it is lovely we can resign nofo to a nice long 4 year contract his defence has always been rock solid.

Give it a rest. He's been offered a fair deal and that's all that matters.

Some people just hate Nofo, I don’t get it either

I don't think it's hate ...its just so frustating to see a bloke who one minute can be an absolute matchwinner and the next can have a brain fart in attack or defence that rivals Benji's Brainfarts

As I said earlier, the cap could go up over time which offsets any money he’s not really earning with his play in the latter years of the deal. This says to me that we can retain good players now, I’ll still keep campaigning for that real top of the line player in the second row before I start to get over excited.

The club is giving Blore the opportunity to be that player this year, they really expect big things of him and are looking at this year as his breakout year.

I think they are more focused on the lock position than the second row.

I wouldn’t rule out him becoming the first WT to play 300 games for the club. Obviously form permitting but that’s the sort of legacy he can leave.

Are you feeling happier with the club today?

Yes mate. I’ve praised them a few times for this one.

I'm happy with his signing as well, I'm fairly confident they would have got him for a fair price as well.

I think they are more focused on the lock position then the second row.

Sorry should have said back-row, if we did get a great second rower I’d move LL to lock.

Good luck to Blore, fitness will be key.

I could see that, there is a desire for that strong ball playing lock. I believe that was the interest in Smith and McInnes.

Luciano was good on that left edge, an Angus or Finucane or Cam Murray would do nicely. Keep those golf clubs in the boot Lee. ?
