Dear Buckets

Jason Taylor has been on the right track since he came here. Toughness and discipline have been lacking in this place for years. He and his staff put in place a strict dietary regime for the players to follow and whether you agree with that or not, it's part of what is needed to be an elite athlete, even for the sake of being disciplined in your approach to being a First Grade player.

Just to add some facts to this. Gluten free is basically a scam. We had this discussion before. It is required for a very low percentage of the population and they have Celiac Disease. For most people gluten is in whole grains which are complex carbohydrates which are good for you.

This though typical of Taylor's approach. It's all talk but when you get into the details it's just palava.

Yes, I agree it's a scam diet but if that's what the coaching and conditioning staff want the players to do, provided that there's no harm in it, then that's what the players do. Buckets had no right to override them and the fact that he did only strengthens some players' hands in opposing the coach.

Are the players opposing the coach ? Did Taylor know about the pizza and beer ? There are lots of assumptions within your post.

Is there any correlation between a gluten free diet and injuries?? Just putting it out there. Last year was one of our best years in regards to keeping players on the park but we seem to be copping a few injuries this year since the diet was supposedly pushed aside, maybe a coincidence.

My oldest son who's 14 sent an email addressed to Mark O'Neill and Justin Pascoe yesterday. Just about how disheartened we all are and how underperforming we are. It was well written and he didn't personally attack anyone. I'll let you guys know if he gets a response. But I warned him, by the looks of how mismanaged the Club is, he won't get one.

Just letting you guys know that Justin Pascoe responded to my sons email and has invited him to attend a game and sit with him. I thought it was a nice gesture. He also mentioned that (cue violin music) we won't be overly active in the player market this year. Unfortunately we are somehow limited with cap space,I'm presuming Farah is the stumbling block, and I'm thinking he must be staying for 2017, but that's a guess.

A couple of things. That is good news with regards to the response to your son and shows the club isn't completely hopeless.

I am not surprised with Farah staying. I just can't see him leaving at this point.

Happy for your son mate.
On the recruitment… Why do we bother?

Thank him for the offer and ask can you attend with him (with him covering transport and accomodation) until we win 3 on the trot. As for the salary cap story, it is getting old. How can a reserve grade quality squad be eating up the entire cap

You kill me.

Start off with "just to add some facts", then a massive opinion call about gluten free being a scam. Sure it is partially a fad, same with superfoods and other such nonsense. I also totally agree that there is no consistent evidence that a generalised gluten-free diet is beneficial for elite athletes - I am unable to find much comprehensive research about it, but here is one journal article:
[https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Dana_Lis/publication/279196747_05_Lis_IJSNEM_2013_0247(published)/links/558e832c08ae47a3490bfe63.pdf](https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Dana_Lis/publication/279196747_05_Lis_IJSNEM_2013_0247%28published%29/links/558e832c08ae47a3490bfe63.pdf)

Despite all this, there is legitimate condition called non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and this is a very real concern for a significant percentage of people. You can't just make a broad swipe on this and say all non-celiacs are being shammed.

Start here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-celiac_gluten_sensitivity
then look up all the journal articles that are quoted.

And then come back talking to us about facts.

My message to buckets is a very simple one…..do your job and recruit some players who can get a job done at NRL level,no more rejects,no more ESL players looking for a last contract,no more reserve graders, no more rugby experiments and no more young kids who are still on P plates.

Than find a coach who the players repect, who is willing to drop anyone who fails deliver, who picks a team on form, who has a good idea how to best use the 17 players he has at his disposal and can put a game plan together.

Pretty simple really

I'm prepared to give Justin the benefit of the doubt as he's new to the role. I think it's showing that Mayer was feeding us BS by saying we'd be signing marquee players this season. And how the Woods re-signing became a "marquee signing". We've been let down by management for a long long time.

Pascoe presents himself really well. I sent a strongly worded email during the Farah fiasco and he got back to me. Also got back to me when I emailed him about my gf's brother who broke his neck and he asked me to keep him updated.

You have to give him credit, the hate mail he'd have gotten this week would have rivalled Hitler.

It's not about finding a coach the players will respect, it's getting a coach who will command respect.

I do agree though. Since Sheens we've had coaches who have let players get away with murder, whether they allowed it or not. The board needs to grow a set and hire a coach with some clout and allow them to remove anyone who is deemed a threat to their authority. Otherwise it is a perpetual cycle which will never cease. Even if it means we have to hurt in the short term (risk losing players who can't handle a Maguire/Bellamy-esque coach,) we will benefit in the long run.

I don't buy the salary cap excuse. We evidently have some big earners that aren't pulling their weight - push them out, clear the decks and make some moves.
The policy of promoting youth and overpaying them to stay is utterly ridiculous.

I believe i know why we are playing the way we are. The playing group is split in 3.

1\. Players supporting taylor
2\. Players supporting farah
3\. Players who dont want Farah and Taylor

We are an undivided team, we cant win anything if we dont play as one. Taylor needs to go asap. This HAS to be Farahs last year. Purchase some decent forwards and get a coach who is given FULL AUTHORITY by the board. Its our only hope. If Farah or Taylor are still here next year, then another year down the drain.

That was the issue tho wasn't it? Taylor wanted to get rid of robbie but was undermined due to the out pouring of fans and media that it wasn't the nice thing to do, even Harry chimed in with threatening to pull funding if certain players were pushed out…. Then Pascoe was forced to water down the situation to keep his funding for the club.. Taylor was given a nudge and told that it was a losing battle. I don't care who coaches to be honest, but Taylor is on a hiding to nowhere... He attempted to do what everyone wanted and was shot down, no he has no choice but to be a potter and get told what he can or can't do. I know none of this may be fact, but it's what I've gained from reading comments and articles... I hope I'm wrong and a new coach is able to command respect, but at the current climate at the club, I very much doubt even Bennett could do anything.

Bennett would do something, he'd arsehole anyone who didn't want to do it his way. This is what I am saying, bring in a hard nosed coach who will either command respect, or move on those who don't. Haslers, Bennetts, Maguires and Bellamys win premierships these days, they're all very hard nosed types who expect only the best from their players.
