Deja Vu - Crawley article

It's people looking from the outside in. After 9 years of no finals football, where you only have to be mid table to qualify (not like the top5 etc), it takes a bit of incompetence to fail 9 years in a row. After a decade at least someone is asking questions. People tell me on here how we are one of the best supported teams in the comp if we were successful but complain when others question weather or if we can get our crap together. Maybe time for us to aim higher/ demand more. Our younger posters would not remember us playing semi final footy and they are in high school.
Maybe this club needs a rocket from outside because fans will make excuses for failure.
9 years in a row of no top 8 when half the comp qualifies takes some sort of incompetence.
Wests tigers new motto... there is always an excuse.

I agree, we can deflect the blame all we want, bottom line is we are 9 seasons without finals footy, hang on to our past players too long, wait way too long for our young players to come good, and paid a premium for the wrong players, all on us.
If the club don't tap Benji on the shoulder it will tell me we have not learned a thing from past mistakes, lets see what our 2021 squad looks like before saying we have turned the corner.

Hopefully Benji taps himself on the shoulder otherwise we will get the articles about how we treat our club legends poorly and Melbourne would never do that to Cameron Smith etc.

In an ideal world that would happen, at most other clubs that would happen, but Benji wants to play on next year, it is now up to the club to grow some balls and say no.
Also Smith never left the Storm over more money, Smith never paraded in another teams jersey while under contract, Benji has had 3 league teams and 1 union team, not a one club legend like Rowdy who bowed out in style

Could not agree more, we are dictated to by players, we need to play the game like successful clubs Easts and Melbourne, they just move players on before they bring the side down with them, we have been a charity case for far too long

the article isn't meant for us, it's meant for the general RL population and most of it is right.

obviously a lot in the article is rumours/ opinions but what i don't like in this article is he thinks he's speaking "for" us and criticising the club. The club doesn't exist anymore. Since we last made finals, we've had 4 coaches, 4 CEOs and countless board members.

What ever you think of Crawley or the Daily Telecrap the point is we are still outside of our fan base the laughing stock of the league, friends love to tell me each year another year without finals appearance and whilst we have the occassional good win which we all get excited about and like to think we have turned the corner in the end like the last 9 years ends up with another poor season. I think we need to put faith in Maguire cuase god help us if we sack another coach and go through another rebuild (seems to be our motto) and we need to invest in some quality juniors from within and other clubs. Our history of overpaying established first graders from other clubs to attrack them to come to us has not really worked. Yes Ivan really stuffed us up big time.

Completely correct ...many Forum members need to take their black ,white and Gold monocle off

I'm one of the persons who takes offence in Crawley's article not because of what he states but his agenda, so please tell me why this is translating to deflection to some forumers?
-Not one fan is content with our current predicament.
-We're well aware of our team's strengths and weakness (while we're more than hopeful, we're more realistic in our assessment).
-We all can agree(whether some shift blame to coaches, CEO or other admin) there's been a long period of club instability and serious recruitment and retention blunders.
-We know we have sustained poor branding due to problems all self-inflicted (caused from within the club).
Which fans actually expected us to excel this year? and which fans are saying they're content with mediocrity?
I see the same complaints often enough to know that no fan on here certainly wants this to continue for us, so because we dislike this article we're being bias?

My issue with Crawley's whole article is I find him disingenuous and a little insulting as it makes the assumption that our fans aren't intelligent enough to discern good organisational leadership from bad.
It's totally pointless, and not based on all fan perceptions.
I've also lived the reality of being a WT fan and to see it constantly dredged up is irritating.
I (or any other fan for that matter) can't control or influence our past, or the outcome of our team's line-up, recruitment & retention and performance.
I can read every fact he's emphasised on the forum on a daily basis. So for me it's like, tell me something I don't already know!!

As for the article, is it easy to stand on the sidelines and throw grenades. This is what these "journalists" are paid to do - how we react, is a measure of what we think of them. Which in my case, is not a lot.
In terms of the club, I think Benji embodies all of it - rocks and diamonds!

As many have said Crawley has come up with nothing we all don’t already know and sure, some of the rubbish we have endured as a club has been our own fault, but some has been out of our control and some has been rotten luck. The guy obviously takes every opportunity to bash us so i prefer to just ignore his opinion and that of the DT.
The truth is that in comparison to most clubs in the NRL we have a pretty average squad and are probably over achieving. If you wanted to question the success of individual clubs look at the Broncos, Dragons, Cows, Titans Manly for starters. They all have better rosters than us and easier draws but they aren’t setting the world on fire. Until we have more true “winners” in our club, guys who compete for every minute and have the hunger to succeed, how can you expect to beat the teams that present that every week.

Laughing stock is an opinion not a fact. Personally I'd rather finish 9th every year than have the dog of a year Broncos have had, or the shocking signings of the Dragons, or the boardroom nonsense impacting on-field at Bulldogs.

So Crawley gave an opinion, that's fine. A lot of the comments weren't facts or were incorrect, and on that there should be some correction.

Crawley is not enough of a moron to get it totally wrong, but he is moron enough to not get it totally right either.

And thats your opinion ......no finals in 10 years ..worst record of any NRL side since 2000

This club needs a dog of a season like Brisbane ,Dogs ..how many finals appearances have Brisbane had since 2000 or the Dogs for that matter

It won't hurt if you take your head out of the ground to acknowledge it ...but when you don't acknowledge that we probably aren't in a much better position rugby league wise than 2017 ..thats pure ignorance

Having a dog of a year - or supposedly hitting rock bottom doesn't automatically mean we then come back to being some super competitive force. Souths were horrendous for years. They never got better until a bucket load of money was injected by Holmes a Court and Rusty. The sharks never got better until they pepped up and broke cap limits.

I'd rather always be in finals contention than win wooden spoons. Wooden spoons are the "laughing stock" for me, you can never take it back and never argue against it, and 1994 Balmain is still a blot in my football memory.

If you are happy to have a Broncos 2020 season in some vain hope of a miraculous Lazarus-like turnaround, good luck for wishful thinking.

No we aren't in a better position than 2017, but also not in a worse position.

I liken us to the Richmond Tigers always falling just short until they cleaned up there Roster, backed there coach with fans looking for a change and are now a consistent Top chance each season. Today's game will be interesting the Roosters usually have the wood on us if we WIN i believe we have turned the corner in competing with the Top teams, no matter what squad they put on the park.

Think with most supporters we have a slim chance of making the 8 this season but we are a roster that has a salary cap penalty and paying overs for a number of key players.

I like us to Fremantle Dockers. They were always a crap club with poor culture and results. But then they built the countries best COE and are now a crap club with poor culture and results.
