I penned a fairly forthright email to Potter this morning stating the obvious that he is failing to see….he read it within 1 minutes of me sending it...I hope for his and the teams sake he takes some points on board.
Potter should not be signed until after rd26...give him something to work for.

The arrogance to think you should email the head coach and hope, "for the team's sake", that he acts on your suggestions.

The dude spends at least 10 x 7 hours per week looking over the team, videos, training etc. He is not failing to see anything, he just sees far more than you do. Not knowing you personally, but I am guessing Potts has played and coached several hundred more first grade games than you have.

Watching 80 mins and paying a few hundred bucks per year entitles you to an opinion and a time to voice it, but don't expect coaches to start running off every time some lunatic supporter emails them.

"Oh gee thanks alexaki, so glad you emailed me today, I had no idea what to do with this team. Certainly we are finals-bound now."

I beg your pardon…you have no idea what I wrote, you have no idea what my expectations were, you have no idea who I am or what my backround is....but you make all these assumptions about me and pen your post....Can I tell you that you are the person who has no idea at all...and you should put a sock in it...I suppose you accept mediocrity (if you know what that means). Put a sock in it....and use your keyboard more constructively next time...

Deadset joke…the bloke has every right to email the coach, I think it is a smart thing to do. Do you mind sharing the email and Potters response Alex?

For fear of being crucified by the prima donas on here I won't post the email….but what I will share is this:

1) I congratulated him on his performances so far this year.
2) I shared with him my thoughts on how professional Souths were last Friday night...their warm ups, their enthusiasm was much better than ours...and IMO its something that counts towards more wins....I told him I'd like to see the WT up the ante in this area.
3) I conveyed my views on how Brooks has developed so far this year
4) I conveyed my concerns regarding Fults, coupled with this I conveyed my views on Tuiaki and Dywer and how the fans will get behind the club to hold a dinner for both of them.
5) I shared with him some statistics on the WT players I have been collecting over the last 2 years...I hoped this will give him another insight if he didn't have it already.
6) I shared with him our (the Forums) views on certain players efforts this year.
7) I wished him luck for the remainder of the year.

To think I would have the effrontery to advise Potter on how to coach, as some on here have suggested is infantile and ludicrous..

Mick responded in kind, thanked me for my email and noted some of my points were fair and valid....I didn't expect much more than what I got....neither did I expect to be shot down like I have on here....some people should grow up....and thanks Milky....you show a maturity years beyond some on here give you credit.

So, you were polite and articulate to Potter in an email but continue to castigate forum members. Put a sock in it.

only in reply mate….have you ever defended your integrity?

Putting aside the calls for the dropping of Lawrence (I don't think he's done so bad before this week), there seem to be 2 bones of contention with Potter's picks.

1) Anasta at 5/8\. I pretty much agree Anasta shouldn't be in first grade, but with Robbie gone over the origin period, he adds some stability. And the only other contender (Austin) is also sharing hooker during origin. If Austin is to get a go, I reckon it will be after origin has finished.

2) Small bench. I like a big pack also. If Fults was fit, he could cover 5/8 or hooker at a pinch, but he's gone for a while, so Halatau is next best. And Austin needs to be there to share hooker. Besides picking a newbie from NSW Cup (Brown? Lovett?), you would have Sitaleki or Farlow as a benchie. Both of whom have been criticised in the past.

I didn't much like the side, but I'm struggling to pick a much better alternative.

Alex, I share your passion and enthusiasm….but i suggest the best thing you could do for the team's sake is stop wasting the head coaches time with your views....these are best left in a forum situation where they can be discussed with others who have nothing better to do. He is only being polite in replying and doesn't really care what you say or think.

The head coach should be trusted to make the right calls, he is the only person with full information and full control of the current and future strategy. Once this does not make sense to the board who also have full information and full view of the current and future strategy...he gets sacked and the process starts again.

In Liverpool, England on the eve of the 2006 British Open Championship, out of form professional golfer, Graeme McDowell, was in trouble. He was going into the tournament the next day clueless about what was causing his struggles on the course.

While he was out that evening, a stranger, who was an avid golf fan, recognised him and went up and said to him that he had noticed a flaw in his swing. The next day Graeme tested the fan's advice on the driving range and to his great shock, he discovered that the fan had been correct! Satisfied with the value of the change, Graeme implemented the suggestion and finished the first day of the British Open in first place - all because a stranger took time to speak a word of help. True story!

Sometimes our words, whether written or spoken, can make a difference, if the person receiving them is humble and open enough to take them on board. So we should never be made to feel ashamed for speaking up, because you just never know what result it may bring.

Unfortunately after 4 days there were 59 other players were in front of him.

there is no issue with alex shooting him an email but what i didnt like about his post that he expected him to implement on his opinions. to paraphrase him: "for his sake, i hope he takes some of the opinions on board"

Plus the fact he assumes Potter is failing to see things he himself does….but gets all offended when someone else assumes he knows what he wrote

Put your money where your mouth is alexaki.....post your points you think potters missing, and what you hop he puts in place...dont drop hints about it youre confident enough to send it to the coach, put it out there for the world to see

So true, sometimes we get so unnecessarily focused on one aspect in our lives we don't see the forest for the trees. Potter deserves respect due to the fact that he took time out to reply to the email.

With the coaching position for next season still vacant, the email should have been revised and sent to Mayer and the board directly as part of a resume.

If upon being enlightened to such things as :deadhorse: Anasta having no place in his team, for some weird reason they were not considering the author, at least they will know what to judge Potter and other candidates by.

I have already read above.

No you didnt, you provided a summary

Im interested in this bit:

I penned a fairly forthright email to Potter this morning stating _the obvious that he is failing to see._

Maybe this is the part where you included us all …

6) I shared with him our (the Forums) views on certain players efforts this year.

The rest of your summary doesnt cover what he is missing, point 6 vaguely does.
Care to go into some more detail seeing as you included us all in it.

Wow!!

Reading this tread the unforgettable school yard chant of FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT came to mind.

At first I thought Alexi was a goose for wasting the coaches time, but then I cheered few times after he elaborated a little.

All in all a good dust up boys.

The only way for us to adjudicate is if the gloves now come off. I suggest one of two directions from here;

1\. Alexi posts more of his email and then we have a good old school debate. There are lots of likes on his posts so he can easily put a team together. The other team has some heavy weights and a guy I picture as being covered in Ink.

2\. Easier option: insult each other's mum until one side taps out.

Good times! It's great to love the Tigers!

What is wrong with forming opinions based on the evolving evidence? You don't have to have an opinion on Potter and stick to it just because that was your opinion based on previous evidence. Things change, coaches evolve, new evidence comes on board.

The reason I wanted Tim Sheens out since the end of 2007 was because of the lack of accountability in the place, lack of incentive to perform, boys club mentality. Potter is possible starting to come down with some of these symptoms, lets hope its a false alarm!!

Potter was left a mess to clean up and he has done a good job. He has got rid of some real dead wood and earlier in the season was picking great teams with a great game plan. Things were looking rosy. Things are still looking pretty good. However lets remember we have scraped home by 2 points in our 3 wins, it could have nearly been 7 losses on the trot.

Potter recently has reverted to the old hedge your bets so you don't upset the experienced blokes. Nullifying our best weapon of a powerful 4 forward bench by playing utilities. Continuing to select under performing players that are costing the team nearly every single week.

These were the reasons everyone (evantually!!!) wanted Sheens out. I dont see the problem with letting the season run its course and giving real incentive for Potter to make the Top 8\. Lets remember we handed Sheens a lucrative and VERY VERY COSTLY extension in the middle of a season we didn't need too.

If i was forced to make a call now I would extend Potter for a further season. He certainly does not warrant being sacked, and has not yet done enough to warrant a long term extension. lets not forget he has also been given the keys to some of the best young talent in the NRL. Clubs would kill for Brooks, Teddy, Sirro, Moses, etc.

I am a fan of Potter a this stage but there is no reason to make the big call yet. Let things evolve and let him coach his way to a new contract, by making the finals with a roster that is talanted enough to do so.

Sure you are free to email anyone you please, don't stop with Potter, I am sure Tony Abbott and Barack Obama need some advice too.

But to hope "for his sake" that he "takes some points on board". Whoa. If you happen to be Wayne Bennett or Wayne Pearce, fair enough, I take back everything I said.

I am glad Potter responded to you though, or at least his secretary did. Then she scrunched up your e-letter and e-threw over her shoulder into the e-bin.

And Milky - I totally appreciate your enthusiasm and the occasional left-field idea, but of course you think people should email the coach. You are Milky! Your opinions permeate this forum like holes through swiss cheese. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already emailed Potts a few times yourself.
