Without trawling through stats (someone will if Im wrong), Leichhardt is our most successful ground (best win/loss) so that is an advantage. It looks good on television, that's all the positive I can say about Leichhardt.

I love Leichhardt, but I can genuinely say it depends what you are going for. Many years ago I used to love it on the hill but not so much now because I have kids and my partner with me, however the hill now is a place for (very) casual league fans who go for the novelty and "cultural" (trendy pop culture) value of the experience and there is nothing wrong with that. It is part of their day that starts at the Orange Grove pub and ends at a niche Newtown diner and thats cool, their money is worth the same as mine.

I now sit in the members area, in pretty much the same spot as when my dad bought membership 30years ago. From there its a different experience.

A game at Leichhardt is on my bucket list. From a far away fan, I can tell you that every game we play there has a completely different feel to it. The closest thing I can think of is Wankhede Stadium (cricket) when the Indian cricket team play. Of course that is on another level, but it has a similar feel.

Where are you from mate?

NZ. Been to Aus plenty of times just never when it's the NRL season. Will have to change that next time I go after covid.

Oh wow Kid, I never realised you were that far away. I hope you get there one day mate, but Im worried you would be underwhelmed, particularly compared to something like Wankhede Stadium.

For a starter, these days max crowd would probably be around 15K and at that number its starting to get uncomfortable. On the hill which is probably something like 40% of the crowd, on a big day, it is standing only if you want to have a chance of seeing the action or alternatively Ive been there when the whole crowd is doing this thing where you are trying to sit so the people behind can see but as soon as anything happens everyone is up anyway.

I also wouldnt describe the atmosphere as like a massive "pumping" crowd experience. Its more like a massive crowded picnic for want of a better description. Most are there for a shared love of the Tigers and understanding and accepting of the shortcomings of the ground and just enjoying the experience.

Hard to put it words but I'd worry you would be underwhelmed. For me and Im sure many others nostalgia is a massive part of it including the walk to the ground etc.

How about others (lovers and haters) try to put it into words for Kazoo?

I have only been on the hill once or twice, I think the seats I have are the best seats anywhere in football. As I said earlier concourse, in the bay next to the players enclosure right behind the bench.

On a big day, when the crowd is standing on the concrete between the concourse and the grandstand is the days I feel the old girl is at her best and has an intimidating feel.

My most memorable game was in the last game ever as Balmain, unbelievable heavy rain (I think) versus Parra. Never been so wet but a great atmosphere.

Grrrrrrrrr, I had to go away to a wedding that night.

So many memorable night at the old girl, Siro's last game where they had Wayne Pearce and a band playing a top of the Morrison Dunnies after the game.

The Cowboys game where Farah belted Watts, a couple of the Souths games where people were sitting on the roof of houses next to the ground, around 23k in the ground.

The Storm game where Lawrance ran 80 from the scrum to win the game

So so many more.

Are Home Grounds an advantage in the Modern game though...some examples ..Newcastle in the last 5 years have had 1 home ground and basically sucked..no advantage..Manly at Fortress Dung Heap is certainly not what it used to be.....Melbourne played basically all there games on the Sunny Coast last season and killed it as usual..

If you are good enough the Ground is not going to help that much..in recent times the myth that Leichhardt has a 10-12pt advantage to Wests Tigers hasn't really helped..

Last row before the fence in the "concourse" section, near 40m line south of tunnel.

In 2016 Newcastle won 1 game...guess who against

Talking about home ground advantage found this, its from an article on zero tackle, so take it with a grain of salt.. Basically 55% of games over the last 5 pre covid years are won by the home team. So there is a homeground advantage.

>There is an advantage to playing at home and good teams make the most of that. Over the last five years the Home side has won 55.27%. >Incredibly, Melbourne who were tops in home wins, were actually even better on the road (75.00% vs. 73.33%). The Storm also recorded the two best single-season away records at 11-1 (2019, 2017). Part of the dominance of Melbourne over the past five years can be easily attributed to their outstanding success rate on the road.

>A distant second were the Sharks who were superb away from Shark Park and only marginally less successful than when they were at home (63.33% vs 60.00%).

>Only six teams managed to finish with winning records on the road for the five-year stretch with the downtrodden Knights setting new records for futility winning just nine, yes nine, away games over the five years for a measly 15.00% success rate and 10 wins less than the next worst team (Titans, 19).

>The Knights futility was capped off by their abysmal 0-12 winless Away record in 2016, a feat matched only by Parra’s woeful 0-12 effort in 2018.

So over the last 5 years the Knights won twice as many games at home as away.

We are 37% away and 45% at home.

So four home grounds in Sydney? Laughable.

It maybe laughable but playing our home game against parra in parra was beyond crazy

Feels like we're scared.

Why on earth would you give a rival an advantage, particularly one who should have been drowned at birth

Why wouldn't you give yourself an advantage and have one home ground?

Are Home Grounds an advantage in the Modern game though...some examples ..Newcastle in the last 5 years have had 1 home ground and basically sucked..no advantage..Manly at Fortress Dung Heap is certainly not what it used to be.....Melbourne played basically all there games on the Sunny Coast last season and killed it as usual..

If you are good enough the Ground is not going to help that much..in recent times the myth that Leichhardt has a 10-12pt advantage to Wests Tigers hasn't really helped..

What was their win percentage at home compared to away? the data you are using may not show the true story.

In 2016 Newcastle won 1 game...guess who against

lol perfect reply @Geo

Wankhede Stadium

I remember the souths game in 2005 with the house full sign
You are so close to the action

My most memorable game was in the last game ever as Balmain, unbelievable heavy rain (I think) versus Parra. Never been so wet but a great atmosphere.

that was good We got beat but great atmosphere.
First game was against Penrith 1988 Ellery Hanley was sensational in that game Elias also got hammered in great tackle too
they closed the gates that day

I was at that game and one of my funniest crowd memories was from that game. I was sitting with a mate in the "concourse" area and for much of the match Penrith had us beat. From memory it was important for both of us to make the semis. There was a Pamfers supporter behind us who was a bikie wearing a bandana (it was the 80's) with a few of his bikie mates and he was OBNOXIOUS and the whole game screaming out how bad the Tigers were and just generally being a tool. Beside my mate and I was a MASSIVE islander and his mate who was one of the skinniest humans you can imagine. Both of them havent said a word all day.

Anyway late in the game, the tables turn and its obvious the Tigers are going to win and as I say from memory it was a very important game. The islander cant help himself and turns around and just GIVES it to this guy for like 10mins straight. The lines I remember are "Hey bandana boy, take off your bandana and show us your circumcision scar" etc etc etc. Tearing into this bloke and the bikie guy and all his bikie mates are FUMING and then my islander mate turns to his skinny mate and says "Mate, I hope these guys have got a sense of humour, 'cos all Ive got is you.". Golden moment.
