Yes but our "captain' never wanted to stay here…which is why he kept on Ummm ing and kept on referring to his Missus

Even if he had no intention of staying, act like a captain and back the club. You can always talk up the changes the club are making and say later that you signed elsewhere because you had to "look after your family" (i.e. chase the money.)

Ivan Cleary seems to think he is acting like a captain but I guess he is not as informed or as close to the situation as the punters.

You're right, we can only go by what our captain says in the media, which hasn't inspired many. Maybe Ivan wanted Woods to oversee the train wreck until the end.

Im sure Ivan can see whats going on. No point creating further chaos in a team that needs no more distractions or excuses. The season is gone and there is more to gain from leaving Woods in as Cap than there is by dismissing him.

But i agree it would have been great to hear that from Woods as our club captain. even if he was intending to sign elsewhere he could have said the above words and after he signed with the Dog's he could have trotted out the "it is what it is" line.

Or maybe Ivan is a bit more informed about the state of affairs of the club he took on and is a bit more philosophical why Woods and Teddy decided to leave given what has transpired over the last two years. Being the father of player in the game and coming from a club that has got its act together, sort of think he would understand better than most why Woods and Teddy took opportunities elsewhere. As they say timing is everything

It isn't the fact that they chose to leave that irks people, it is the shifty, spineless manner in which Ted and Woods went about it.
Good news on Eisenhuth if he re-signs.

This team was someone else's .. Cleary does not take full ownership until seasons end ,he has done the right call on Woods being captain for the remainder of the season.Pre season new players /new captain /clean slate the beginning of the Ivan Cleary tenure.

Or maybe the fans are the ones that keep him and his missus in the way they are accustomed, whilst children look up to him and he should have shown them respect. Doesn't matter what he is doing now, the way he treated them with contempt, any bloody wonder he was booed by some earlier this year.

I undersrand that you are filthy at him but everything Woods has got he has earned himself just like every other successful sports person. Fans turn on sports people in the blink of an eye if their form drops, and embrace others if they can see value in them regardless of where their origins are - re Josh Reynolds
Fans support players who help their team win and cant get rid of less talented ones quick enough.
As for Woods treating fans with contempt I think we can safely say their is a proporton of fans who have more than outshone that score.

Michael Chammas of the Sydney Morning Herald speculates a possible Woods back flip if the Dogs can't sort out their salary cap problems:

Forgot to quote Telltails above, so "you" below refers to him.

Nearly every cent Woods has earned came from fans, the vast majority of it from Wests Tigers ones, some of it mine and probably yours as well.

There is a damn sight of difference between the contempt you talk of from some fans and as much as some of it is over the top, and I certainly don't condone it, at least the disrespect they are showing is from a considered position in response to words and actions from Woods that disregarded them completely.

I am actually less "filthy" at him than I am at apologists such as yourself. Reason being that you probably have much greater knowledge than him and many that are hauling abuse. Yet they understand that this guy who may well be smarter and earning ten times more than some of them, neglected them all, especially the ones that wear his name on their backs.

Eisenhuth is not captain and earning bugger all, yet what a great attitude he displays to the fans.

The devestating part of that article is how close we came to Corey Harawira-Naera

A Panther pads

At least Corey Harawira-Naera knows he can trust Penrith Panthers teammate Nathan Cleary. During his contract negotiations a couple of months ago, Harawira-Naera went out to the Cleary residence to meet with Ivan Cleary about the prospect of joining him at the Wests Tigers next season. There was Nathan, lurking in the background.

"It was pretty funny. We had a meeting with him at his place and Nathan was home," Harawira-Naera said. "He had to keep a quiet mouth around here. He couldn't really say anything. It was a bit weird. But Ivan is a nice guy. He did have me sold. It was hard to backdoor it on him, but I'm glad I did because I never wanted to leave. Ivan knew that I didn't want to leave, so when he found out Penrith placed an offer he knew my mind would have changed real quick.

"I was pretty close to going there. It was a bit hard because my mind was made up to go to the Tigers, but once they showed interest here, I wouldn't say I backflipped but it changed my mind. I didn't want to leave the Panthers. As soon as the opportunity came up to stay, I signed straight away. I'm really humbled and blessed the Panthers offered me a few more years. I owe them and I'm in debt to them for what they've done and the faith they've shown in me."

I honestly don't care that the three guys that are leaving are leaving the club. The thing that annoys me is guys that are supposedly Tigers fans sticking up for these guys and stating they have done the right thing or there is nothing wrong with it.

The only player that I'd like to keep is Tedesco and even then on a fair amount of money. I'm stoked the other two are gone and I don't really care about Tedesco leaving either.

The apologist fans though to me really need to go and get their heads looked at. As for any of those 3 guys being smart though that is hilarious. I bet their combined HSC results were 45 (15 each) and all of those were gifted to them.

More good attitude above, CHN feeling humbled and blessed.

On the other hand, Mr it is what it is may now want back in.

It is what it is says it all. Woods drifts through life in the present without learning from the past and without worrying about future consequences. He might have learnt something from Tedesco's backflip, but one thing he definitely needs to learn is never to crap in your own nest.

Humbled and blessed I could leverage tigers to do a deal with panthers. He can twerk off.

I still think that the Panthers will have cap problems if it is set at $9.2 million next year.

You really cant compare where Eisenhuth is in his career to Woods. If he.reaches the same level Woods has in the game then he will have the opportunity to earn an elite players salary too and he may be faced with a decision to change clubs, and if he does he will have reasons for making that decision.
Woods has made a decision I accept it and dont feel the need to attack him for it.Dont particularly like it but the club has moved on, and he moves on too.

I am not in the habit of attacking any players for decisions they make about their careers and I certainly dont make personal attacks based on speculative accusations made on a forum. And as for being an "appologist" - I can guarantee you I want be apologising for that.

Sorry to have to point this out again, but you just don't seem to get it. I and others are not comparing playing ability or career, and as you brought it up, you must have not noticed above that Eisenhuth is making a decision on his playing future as I write. Nearly all fans don't begrudge Woods changing clubs and are not attacking him for that, me included in case that was not already clear enough as well, it is the manner in which he did it.

If Eisenhuth does not come to WT terms and moves to another club he will do so with the blessing of fans because he has shown them respect. Simple.

And respectfully FG the circumstances under which Eisenhuth is possibly signing are totally different.
I dont judge Woods harshly for his decision because I understand why he relented in committing to the club when he did, which many of you in my mind have conveniently decided to ignore when you villify him.
Two years of the circus that emcompasseed the club with the fued between JT/Farah, the less than impressive player welfare report, the worst player recruitment and retention in the league due to inept salary cap management, three different CEOs, the obsession with Broses which the club openly reported to be building their future around which saw good players released or let go only to result in them not being able to retain them, the sacking of JT by the board reportedly without Pascoe and Go knowing and who both pubically backed him, the Simona and Lovett misdemeanors - all of which Woods had no control over yet effected the club he played at and its lack of success all prior to him deciding whether to re sign! And yet he gets torn apart for letting the club and fans down?
Based on all of that I could easily accuse you of being an appologist for the club for years of poor decisions and management because they have been responsible for far more damage than any decision Woods or Teddy has made and the club is the one constant in all of it.
Going forward - regardless of the decisions by Woods and Teddy and what motivated them Cleary seems to have made inroads in getting things back on track and that can only be seen as the first step back in the right direction.Hopefully we can agree on that.

^^^^^ All of which has nothing to do with how players should treat their fans.

Nofo even felt he didn't need a cooling off period to recommit to the 2017 version WT circus and wanted to communicate that to fans he values, whilst it looks as though Eisenhuth is about to be announced as staying on as well. Go figure
