@Nelson said:…I figured it could have had to do with avoiding a back-ended contract given they're no longer allowed. Sign him cheap for a remainder of season contract so that he has a chance to play first grade and then do up a separate contract for 2-3 years at a higher value later in the season. Back-ended contract successfully avoided.

Because Pascoe said it in the media release:
“We have initially signed Elijah for the remainder of the 2016 season but we look forward to developing a long-term relationship for him as the year progresses.”
And that is a smart move by Pascoe…he has the rest of 2016 to prove to the WT he is worthy of an extended contract...
Yep, can't be handing contracts on a plate. Now he'll know to go out there and give it his all. When you're playing for a contract it can boost your performance.

Not sure it's a 'prove yourself' thing.
This article came out yesterday too… http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2016-offcontract-panthers-forward-elijah-taylor-is-eyeing-off-a-switch-to-rugby-union/news-story/247e6a5e2ba0479de411dfe698b2bb22
It might be cap issues for us. We might need Robbie to definitely be leaving.

Hammer, I don't see anything on that link about our salary cap, just about Taylor considering a switch to Union. Am I missing something?
