Elijah Taylor joins Wests Tigers

Great signing. Hopefully he gels with the team on and off the pitch. I also hope that he brings a bit more mongrel to our game.

Hopefully this gives Sironen a bit of a kick up the backside too

…I figured it could have had to do with avoiding a back-ended contract given they're no longer allowed. Sign him cheap for a remainder of season contract so that he has a chance to play first grade and then do up a separate contract for 2-3 years at a higher value later in the season. Back-ended contract successfully avoided.

At last the club is thinking smart and trying to turn the corner.

Good signing will bolster our middle defence up which will be great, I see a few people have thrown up there forward packs and I'm just wondering wtf all off them have the new Braith Anasta most overrated player in the NRL (Sirro) in there side this bloke is a DUD looks like Tarzan plays like Jane the sooner this bloke is gone from 1st grade and back in the regimes the better we will be

Im not too familiar with ET although aware of his being around for a bit. Pretty sure he played in a GF too didn't he? Anyway, no doubt a good signing, but I do feel for the other blokes. I guess they mustn't be cutting the mustard up to now. It's a tough gig this NRL business.

He will be here for a few years , don't know why people would think we have only signed him for half a year .

Because Pascoe said it in the media release:

“We have initially signed Elijah for the remainder of the 2016 season but we look forward to developing a long-term relationship for him as the year progresses.”

And that is a smart move by Pascoe…he has the rest of 2016 to prove to the WT he is worthy of an extended contract...

Yep, can't be handing contracts on a plate. Now he'll know to go out there and give it his all. When you're playing for a contract it can boost your performance.

Not sure it's a 'prove yourself' thing.

This article came out yesterday too… http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2016-offcontract-panthers-forward-elijah-taylor-is-eyeing-off-a-switch-to-rugby-union/news-story/247e6a5e2ba0479de411dfe698b2bb22

It might be cap issues for us. We might need Robbie to definitely be leaving.

I like how the club announces the signing on the same day we find out teddy is out for 4-6 weeks. It has everybody talking, suppporters and non supporters alike about the great signing thr club has made rather than how screwed we are teddys out for so long.

Great signing imo. Will reallyvtighten up our defence which has been our big issue.

My pack now
Woods
Farah
Grant
Sironen
Lawrence
Taylor

Sue
Ava
Aloia
Lovett/Halatau

He will be a great addition to our backrow, hopefully he performs and can be offered an extended contract!

A positive signing and will mean one of our current average players misses out.

In a month I'd have a pack of

Woods
Farah
Seumanufagai
Lawrence
Sirro
Taylor

Grant
Sue
Chee Kam
Aloiai/Lovett/Halatau

We suck in the middle parts of the game so having Grant and Sue to provide some experience and punch would be crucial.

Most importantly fewer mins of higher quality for many of our forwards like Woods and Sue. Tired errors are costing us time and again. Props playing 30-35 mins straight shouldn't happen. Rotate before they fatigue and make errors.

And Taylor will be odds on to start on the bench v the dogs. Highly doubt he'll start when he won't even train with our boys before next Tuesday… But having an 80 min back rower will be greta for us. Still don't see Lawrence as an 80 min player in the forwards yet either. Clocks off now and then and it's normal as he's not used to play the busy game in the forwards for 80 rather than making fewer hitups and tackles out wide.

Good signing. We need a solid defender that can play long minutes desperately imo.

We wouldn't be able to offer a long term deal until we know what Brooks, Moses and Farah's plans are for next season and beyond. But assuming he gets plenty of first grade you would imagine he will extend his stay. Plus the club then gets a good gauge of his long term value within our team.

Good signing…. our forward pack all of a sudden looks stronger

8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Grant

11\. Sironen
12\. Lawerence
13\. Taylor

14\. Ava
15\. Sue
16\. Alioa
17\. Chee Kam/ Lovett

What about Joel Edwards?

Well from what I've seen Chee Kam and Lovett are better options

I think Elijah Taylor is probably one of the best signings we've ever made if we can keep him longer term. He is exactly the style of player we need.

Hammer, I don't see anything on that link about our salary cap, just about Taylor considering a switch to Union. Am I missing something?

nup, I'm just going off point as per usual. I reckon the longer term signing isn't happening for one of those two reasons. Cap or Taylor looking at Union.

Think this was mentioned by Torch in one of the threads, that it was basically a 'done deal' but the club is still sweating on Farah's future and Lawrence's new contract being accepted by the NRL.

On a side note, interesting that Siro put in last week. It might be exactly what he needs too.

I know it's already assumed he'd be playing 13 - but from the horses mouth. We've obviously guaranteed him a start in first grade.

Good luck to him
